A MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL The leadership team and staff at Penrith Anglican College are working hard to best manage the various challenges presented and minimise the impact of the COVID-19 situation. As you will see in this guide, the College has been planning for this contingency to ensure that teaching and learning can continue from Pre-K to Year 12 including Learning Support, Enrichment and Student Wellbeing services. Please join me in keeping the College and the wider situation in your prayers. “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” Isaiah 41:10. FELICITY GRIMA Principal
Off Campus Learning Plan Penrith Anglican College TEACHING AND LEARNING Teaching and Learning During Off Campus Learning In order to mitigate the impact of COVID-19, the College has prepared a plan to facilitate teaching online. The College’s commitment to provide challenging and engaging teaching to our students continues throughout the period the College is closed. Off campus teaching will allow College students to not only continue learning, it will also allow them to maintain an ongoing connection with their peers and teachers. As such, in the event of temporary closure to the College, or exclusion of students from the campus: • Lessons will be still be provided each day • Student work will still be checked and assessed by their teachers • Teachers will still be available to teach/ask questions • Formal assessments will still proceed where possible (even if creative adjustments are required) More specifically, Primary teaching staff have already distributed Home Learning Packs and will email their students work at the beginning of each week the College is closed. These emails will be sent out on Monday, between 7:30am-8:30am. Secondary students will also receive work via email for each of their classes between 7:30am- 8:30am, but they will receive this work each day the College is closed. In other words, Secondary students who normally have six different classes that day, will receive six emails between 7:30am-8:30am that morning. The subject of these emails will start with “LESSON” (in capital letters), and will outline specific activities, readings, questions for students to complete for that day/that week. College teachers will continue to strive to provide authentic lessons to all students whilst the College is closed, as it is important that, irrespective of the circumstances, our students do not fall behind the required syllabus outcomes. The amount of classwork sent home will be commensurate with a student’s Year Group and learning ability, but the College will continue to monitor and reflect on these processes; your feedback in this area is always welcome.
Off Campus Learning Plan Penrith Anglican College Any classwork sent home will not refer to texts, technology or equipment that students do not have access to away from the College. However, this might require rearranging the order of topics and content to enable work that is suitable for off campus learning. In addition, the College is currently upskilling teaching staff in order to implement remote video lessons via programs such as SeeSaw and Zoom. Such technology will be particularly encouraged for our Year 11 and 12 classes, but will be open for year groups across the College and will be scheduled by teachers individually. Finally, in order to give students predictable times of communication, teaching staff will be available for immediate email response (within 30 minutes) in line with their regular timetable commitments, as if they were in class with their students. For Primary, this means teaching staff will be available throughout a normal teaching day outside of RFF and regular breaks; for Secondary, this means teaching staff will be immediately available during the times their students would normally be in their class. Eg: for a Year 7 Maths in Period 2, the teacher will be available for email responses between 9:25am and 10:20am. Just as it is important in the physical classroom, classroom teachers will still be checking student understanding and completion of work they have sent home. Therefore, as much as it is possible, the lessons and work set for students will allow teaching staff to check student work and monitor their progress. This might include work set through educational interfaces such as Canvas, OneNote, Education Perfect, Typing Tournament, Maths Invaders and See Saw. Classroom teachers might also request that students regularly email their completed work each afternoon/at regular intervals. Although students will be given a level of autonomy about what time in the day they complete work and take breaks, if students are not completing or submitting the work their teacher has left for them, teachers will email home. If further contact is required teachers may also make contact by phone to ensure work is being completed.

Off Campus Learning Plan Penrith Anglican College WELLBEING Classroom and Mentor Group teachers will be in regular contact with students to ensure well- being programs and considerations are still followed. A few key summary points for parents to consider in regards to proactive wellbeing approaches: • When communicating with your child, ensure that you present the age appropriate facts. Try to restrict or control the amount of news exposure your child hears at this time. • Continue with good health practices implementing and emphasizing good hygiene practices. Furthermore, habits that build healthy sleep hygiene, maintain a balanced diet and include situation appropriate physical activity are also very beneficial. • Establish a routine for your child’s online learning through things such as timetabling of daily tasks and planning ahead for larger assessments. Be involved in your child’s learning journey to encourage and motivate them. • Both positive and negative emotions are contagious, so work on activities that build up healthy emotions such as practising gratitude. There are some online apps and websites that can be helpful in managing anxiety and know that if these negative emotions build and continue, seek help.
