Welcome to Warren Wilson College! This is an amazing time in your life, as you begin expanding your knowledge in and out of the classroom. You will learn more about yourself as you engage in your academic pursuits, your work crew, community engagement commitments, student clubs, residential hall living, and meeting new people. You will challenge yourself to think outside of your normal realm. We know you’ll find a new home on our beautiful campus. New Student and Transfer Orientation at Warren Wilson College will provide you with all the resources you need as you begin on campus. The schedule balances Academic, Community, and Social sessions with some large all-class programs and other small group activities in order for you to meet many of your classmates along with several upper class students and staff who will help you all semester long! By the end of Orientation, we hope to answer all your questions, introduce you to our amazing community, and relieve some of your fears about starting college! This guide serves as a resource as you pack and get ready to move to campus—what you should remember to bring and what will happen on that first day. We’ve enclosed our first day schedule for you and your family members. Orientation and transitioning to campus is a group effort, so bring your team with you—parents, grandparents, siblings, or anyone who truly has gotten you to this point in your life. We all get to celebrate this next milestone with you! Finally, the full Orientation schedule is available online at: https://www.warren-wilson.edu/admission/new-students/ Tacci Smith Interim Dean of Students tsmith@warren-wilson.edu 828.771.3748
We look forward to seeing you at Orientation. Our Work Program Office (WPO) requires students to turn in their I-9 paperwork (see page 9 in this guide for details). You will also need to get your student ID picture taken. Review the student schedule to confirm times and locations! What to expect on your first day. Unpack the car, find your room, meet new friends and families—move-in day is exciting! Let’s talk more specifically about what you’ll be doing on this special day. All students have selected a move-in day and timeslot over a two-day period: Monday, August 16 & Tuesday, August 17. Please stick to the timeslot that you selected, and do not arrive too early—we want to give everyone 90 minutes to move in to their rooms. Each timeslot has approximately 40-50 students and their immediate family members (2-4 people only, please). Our staff will be available for directions and questions, but unfortunately they are currently not able to help move items for incoming students, since we practice good COVID protocols. Speaking of which, we are requiring all students and family members to wear masks going into our residential and campus buildings, which includes moving into your residence hall room. You will be directed to the Kittredge Theatre parking area, where we will be conducting a drive through check in. Please do not park your vehicle. Follow directions and continue through the parking lot until you reach a staff member. Note: if anyone is symptomatic or has a high temperature, we ask that you please not come to campus! At this time, we will check our clearance list. If you are not financially cleared or have filled out a vaccine exemption form, we will ask you to park and come to the building. Unvaccinated folks must show negative COVID PCR test results (from no more than 48 hours prior to arriving on campus) to our Nurse Practitioner. If you have turned in your vaccination card and Financial Aid and Accounting have cleared you, you’ll continue through check-in and pick up your key. Lunch will be provided for our incoming students and their immediate family members (2-4 people) in Gladfelter Dining Hall. Again, we ask that everyone wear a mask in our dining hall. Gladfelter has limited seating in the main dining hall, but the downstairs portion and outside the building will be open with additional seating options. We are continuing to monitor the CDC regulations and guidelines, so if our protocols need to change we will notify all incoming students before arriving on campus. Thank you for being flexible, and for helping us stay safe! Students who have not paid their balance or made acceptable payment arrangements will not be able to move in. 3
