Mountain Vista Connection August 2021 MVC CELEBRATES SCHOLARS! The Michaels Organization Educational Foundation has been awarding scholarships to residents of their military, student, and affordable housing communities throughout the country since 1991. When it comes to our military residents, we know that lifting lives means taking care of families of those who are dedicated to taking care of our country and all of us. This is part of the way Michaels “Gives Back”. Since privatization in 2009, there have been 108 scholars at Fort Huachuca who received a total of $372,100 in funding toward a higher education! Alexis received a $10 gift card. Thank you to all who participated! FORT FACT Lawton Street is named after Henry W. Lawton who was a Captain that commanded B Troop, 4th Cavalry. He left Fort Huachuca in 1886 for a grueling several month pursuit of Geronimo and his renegades. For this campaign, he earn the Medal of Honor. As a Major General, he commanded the 1st Division in the Philippines.
