Being Independent!! This morning at morning tea time Miss Brielle showed us where the scrap tub was for us to throw our scraps out, Miss Brielle then showed us where the tub was for our dishes. We were clever enough to know which tub was for the scraps and which tub was for the dishes.
We have created our own poppy flowers with red playdough and chia seeds to honour the Anzacs. Miss Ellen showed the children how to make a ball by rolling between our palms and then squeezes it to make it flat. This was great practice for us as we were about to make Anzac biscuits. This ac- tivity has helped us with strengthening our hand muscles. Miss Ellen demonstrated how to make a poppy with the red playdough. Harrison real- ly got the idea of rolling the playdough and was able to copy this action.
We had a cooking experience today which the children really loved as this was a first time experience for the children. This is a traditional recipe of the Anzacs. We all came to the table with lots of anticipation and waited patiently to see what was happening. Delina has even helped us with measuring out the ingredients. She has shown us that cooking is a fa- vourite pastime for her. We will be using more cooking expe- riences as something the children can learn maths skills and learning how to put ingredients together to make yummy things we like to eat.
Today the Monkey’s decided to sit down and read some books they found interesting. Miss Ellen sat the Monkeys down to start reading ‘Hennie and the Fox”, it was about a hen named Hennie warning the other animals of the incoming fox while describing various details about the fox. The children were shown each page of the book while the educator read; Oakli, Oakley and Jaysen took particular interest in the visuals of the book as they came up to point out specific elements of the pictures to the educator. The children also had decided to do some independent reading dur- ing their free time, with Oakli, Harrison and Caius taking out their own books to read before moving on to other toys/activities soon after. This shows not only the children taking control of their own play but also provides a cognitive thinking experience listening to the educator and trying to pair the images to the told story. We are also asking parents if we can please send through a photo of the children with their Mum’s. We are going to use them for a Moth- er’s Day display.
