General Manager’s Message We’re certainly living through some unprecedented and difficult times. As I write this article, we’re just learning of the spread of the coronavirus here in Minnesota and the resulting school and event closings happening across the state. Please know that we are committed to continue to provide you with important local, regional, and national news and public affairs programs like Lakeland News, the NewsHour, Almanac, and other important programs. We know you rely on us and we will do our best to be there for you. Like other businesses, we have been meeting daily discussing how we can continue to bring important information to you while protecting our workforce here at Lakeland PBS. We have been putting systems and policies in place that will allow for critical on-air operations staff to work from home so that we can stay on the air. Please know that we will do everything in our power to continue to bring you Lakeland News. Also know that keeping our staff and the public that they interact with safe is of the utmost importance for us, so we’re limiting our reporter’s exposure by curbing their coverage of events with gatherings of people. Because of this, you may see more phone interviews and studio based reporting. Please know that our staff is working hard to bring you relevant information to help you better understand this situation as it unfolds. Normally we welcome visitors in our Brainerd and Bemidji facilities, but right now we would ask that the public not stop in until the coronavirus issue settles down a bit. Feel free to give us a call during business hours at 800-292-0922 or email us at viewerservices@lptv.org and we will do our best to help you. In addition, our web site is always a great resource at lptv.org. Thank you for your understanding. We just ended our March fund drive and I want to thank everyone who made a National Memorial Day Concert 2020 contribution in support of the programs you enjoy on Lakeland PBS. I also want to Sunday, May 24 at 7pm & 8:30pm specifically thank those folks who are sustaining members. Your ongoing support as a Tune in to the 31st annual broadcast of America’s national night of remembrance, sustaining member of Lakeland PBS helps us weather financial storms like this. For those honoring the service and sacrifice of our men and women in uniform, their families at of you who aren’t sustaining members, please consider it. It’s easy to do and really makes home, and all those who gave their lives for our country. your contribution go farther and fund more great programming. Again, thank you! Also airs Monday, May 25 at 2:30am; Tuesday, May 26 at 1am Unfortunately, the downturn of the economy right after the start of our March drive did impact our fundraising efforts. During these difficult times, I realize that people may be hesitant about making charitable contributions when facing financial uncertainty. Please know that non-profits like your local church, local food shelf, local United Way, and organizations like Lakeland PBS are also facing uncertainty and difficult financial times. If you have the financial means to do so, please consider continuing with your support of the organizations that are important to you. Thank you. Spring time usually is the start of many big gatherings in both the Bemidji and Brainerd Lakes areas. Events like Bemidji’s Home, Sport and Travel Show and Brainerd’s Commerce and Industry show are just a few of these. Unfortunately, most, if not all of the big events from around the region have been cancelled. Because of this, I’d like to take this opportunity to challenge you to get outside and enjoy the natural beauty of our region if you are able. There is nothing more rejuvenating than a nice long walk down a wooded north woods trail or an afternoon bike ride on one of our many beautiful biking trails. It will do both your mind and body a world of good. As always, thank you for your generous support!
