W E L C O M E T O T H E 17 T H A N N U A L C O N F E R E N C E O N C R I M E S A GA I N S T W O M E N WELCOME BACK! We are thrilled to have you back in-person for the 17th Annual Conference on Crimes Against Women. There is nothing quite like the energy that comes from a ballroom of thousands of practitioners all coming together with one shared goal – to learn and share new tools and skills for working with and bringing justice to women who have experienced gender-based violence. As we celebrate gathering again, we would be remiss to ignore the sacrifices that so many have made since March 2020. We at the Dallas Police Department and Genesis Women’s Shelter & Support recognize the devastating impact the pandemic has had on victims of strangulation, stalking, trafficking, sexual assault and domestic violence – and on all of you, who were on the front lines every day, never giving up. Thank you for being there when survivors needed your help more than ever before. Although we can’t know what the future holds, one thing remains – we are committed to walking alongside all of you as we work to end the epidemic of violence against women. Thank you for continuing to trust us to provide the most cutting-edge, timely education in the field. YOU ARE OUR HEROES! MISSION OF CCAW The mission of the Conference on Crimes Against Women (CCAW) is to provide a national platform to disseminate the highest level of training, information, and strategies to professionals who are responders and advocates to victims of the many Jan Langbein, Chief Executive Officer and varied forms of crimes against women including domestic violence, Genesis Women’s Shelter & Support human trafficking, sexual assault, and strangulation. & Conference on Crimes Against Women C ONFEREN C E P RESE N T E D B Y GENESIS WOMEN’S SHELTER & SUPPORT provides safety, shelter and support for women who have experienced domestic violence and raises awareness regarding its cause, prevalence, and impact. 24-hour hotline: 214.946.HELP (4357) | www.genesisshelter.org Help is free and confidential THE DALLAS POLICE DEPARTMENT is dedicated to protecting all Dallas citizens from crimes through its prevention, patrol, and investigative activities. With respect to the victimization of women, the Department has deployed significant resources to effectively investigate the full range of crimes that are committed against women. CCAW PROGRAMS The Conference on Crimes Against Women has grown! Did you know that the annual conference is just one of our programs? The Podcast on Crimes Against Women serves as an extension of the information and topics presented at the annual Conference, providing in-depth dialogue, fresh perspectives, and relevant updates by experts in the fields of victim advocacy, criminal justice, medicine, and more. The podcast creates a space to engage and educate community members on the issue of violence against women, how it impacts our daily lives, and how we can work together to create lasting cultural and systemic change. Visit www.conferencecaw.org/podcast to listen to all three seasons of Podcast on Crimes Against Women, or subscribe to the podcast on your favorite platform. The Institute for Coordinated Community Response works alongside rural communities to improve their collaborative, systemic responses to domestic violence. The Institute works to accomplish its mission in two ways: Saturate the state of Texas with effective criminal justice system responses to domestic violence. Each year, ICCR selects up to four teams of law enforcement officers, prosecutors, and advocates from rural Texas counties, at no cost to the participants, to identify what is needed in each community and create a sustainable Coordinated Community Response (CCR) to domestic violence. Teams review local domestic violence cases, listen to survivors' experiences, learn from experts, and collaboratively implement changes to begin building the scaffolding of a sustainable CCR. Ensure every community across the United States, no matter how small, receives the training they need to provide justice for victims and hold offenders accountable. Together with the larger CCAW team, the Institute provides virtual, year-round training on domestic violence dynamics and collaborative solutions that center the unique needs of rural communities. Visit www.InstituteCCR.org to learn more about ICCR’s Texas programming, view upcoming national trainings, and sign up to receive regular updates! An international lecturer at police academies all over the world, Mr. Wynn is also a Fulbright specialist for the Department of State, and is, himself, a survivor of domestic violence. Mr. Wynn is devoted to ending domestic, sexual, elder, and child abuse as a former police officer, detective, educator, program supervisor, and now consultant and advisor. Most recently, Wynn was featured in an autobiographical documentary depicting his family's abuse as a child and their journey to healing, entitled, This Is the House Where I Learned Not to Sleep. Bringing together producers, impact producers and filmmakers from the films, The Homestretch, Audrey & Daisy, Private Violence, and Bully, this project brings a unique depth to challenging perceptions of violence against women. This project was supported, in part, by Cindy Waitt and The Waitt Institute for Violence Prevention, Kind World Foundation, Chicago Media Project and The Nathan Cummings Foundation. 3

2 0 2 2 I G N I T E A WA R D W I N N E R T R AC Y M AT H E S O N CCAW is proud to present the 2022 IGNITE Award to Tracy Matheson: mother, legislative champion, and founder of Project Beloved. After her daughter, Molly Jane, was raped and murdered in 2017, Tracy made it her life’s work to create change for victims of sexual assault. Tracy founded Project Beloved in 2018 with the mission to educate, advocate, and collaborate to change the conversation about sexual assault. Project Beloved has provided more than 10,000 Beloved Bundles to hospitals, so that rape victims may leave with dignity after a forensic exam. The organization installed 42 Soft Interview Rooms nationwide, giving victims a space that feels physically and emotionally safe during the interview process. Project Beloved has also established the Molly Jane Matheson Memorial Scholarship in Social Work at the University of Arkansas, honoring Molly’s plan to become a social worker. As a result of Tracy's tireless advocacy, Molly Jane’s Law was passed in Texas on September 1, 2019. Molly Jane’s Law requires law enforcement to input information about sexual offenders into ViCAP (Violent Criminal Apprehension Program) each time a case of sexual assault is investigated. This law helps identify patterns of offense so that law enforcement can act decisively before an offender rapes again - a crucial step that will save countless lives. Tracy embodies the IGNITE Award, created to recognize individuals who have worked tirelessly to bring injustice out of the darkness and light the fire of change in their community. We are thrilled to honor her contributions to the field of sexual assault advocacy. "I'm on a journey to figure out what I am called to do with the story that has become my family’s story. One thing I know is that I must play my part to bring change." 5
