Welcome Thank you for joining us for our 16th Annual Summer Scholars Gala! BOARD OF DIRECTORS We are delighted that you are able to join us to celebrate and honor the 2021 Summer Scholars, the 2021 Leader of the Year, Rosalind Brewer, and the recipients of the Woman of Erich Bagen Impact award: Sarah Politis, JIF ‘08, Megan Red Shirt-Shaw, and Camille Stewart. Fred Blanck Valerie Brader We are excited to introduce you to our 2021 Scholars. This group of talented young women Allyson Carpenter, JIF ’12 is motivated, determined, and ready to broaden their academic horizons. We were struck Mary Jo Dawson by the care and dedication with which they sought out our programming, particularly in the Audrey DiMarzo midst of such a challenging year for students. By providing scholarship assistance to pre Kim Easter college summer programs, we elevate college aspirations, create opportunity, and break S. Caroline Kerr barriers to higher education. This work is made possible through partnerships with other Greg Lewis organizations and the support of generous community members. Michael Pritula Emily Taylor We are proud to continue our partnerships with Minds Matter chapters in Cleveland, Tiffany Taylor Detroit, and Twin Cities, and with the University Prep Schools in Detroit. Together, we Sheila Trautner are jointly funding 12 Scholars this year. We are also grateful to Mary Vandewiele for her continued support of the Summer Scholars Program and the Mary Vandewiele Leadership Emeriti Award, now in its ninth year. Carrie Booher Anne Hiller We are thankful to our alumnae who are engaged in every aspect of the Foundation: they Stephen Miller mentor, serve as ambassadors, help select the next group of Scholars, plan events, and Elisa Ostafin organize the alumnae “Pay It Forward” campaign. Our thanks to our Director of Fellows, Clint Wallace Meghna Tummala, JIF ’16, and all our Fellows who make our mission possible. ASSOCIATE BOARD Under the direction of Frances Nan, we coordinated over ten virtual college admission OF DIRECTORS and financial aid related webinars throughout the fall and spring. All sessions were free of charge, open to the public, and led by experts from our partner colleges and universities. Aditi Adhikari, JIF ’14 As virtual events, we reached even more students, families, and educators across the Katharine Janes, JIF ’12 Midwest. Ashley Lane, JIF ’15 Abril Rangel-Pacheco, JIF ’13 Earlier this year, we created an Associate Board of Directors to raise awareness and Abby Waugh, JIF ’15 support for the work and mission of the Foundation. Mission The Joyce Ivy Foundation is a non-profit 501c3 organization committed to the academic advancement and leadership development of young women from the Midwest. We seek to amplify the Midwestern voice on college campuses nationwide and empower talented young women from all backgrounds to elevate their aspirations during the college search process and beyond. We take issue with the underrepresentation of female Midwestern perspectives at highly selective colleges and universities and in positions of leadership across industries, and with the undermatching of high-achieving, low-income female students in the college decision process. We believe that talent is equally distributed in our society and that the Midwestern perspective deserves to be celebrated and shared. We believe in the transformative power of educational experiences. We believe in the potential of young women as leaders. To date, the Joyce Ivy Foundation has The eighty-two 2021 Summer Scholars hail artists, motivating leaders and dedicated named 972 Summer Scholars.
