M arshall County Council on Aging has been partnering with Diamond Tours to offer bus trips all over the United States since 2012. Our first trip was a five-day trip to Gatlinburg & Pigeon Forge in October 2012, with 52 people. Everyone had a great time enjoying the eight shows included in the trip. In 2013, we filled 2 buses, 104 people, and headed to Cape Cod to enjoy the beautiful weather and scenery, as well as the lobster! This trip included guided tours of the Outer Cape, JFK Museum, Martha’s Vineyard, and a casino stop on the way home. 2014 brought us to Washington, D.C. 96 people departed for our nation’s capital on May 1 to enjoy several guided tours over 6 days, including Arlington National Cemetery, the Smithsonian, The Lincoln Memorial, and much more. Also, in 2014 travelers enjoyed the sights and sounds of the Grand Ole Opry on the Nashville Show Trip. Two more trips were enjoyed in 2015 - a journey to beautiful and historic Savannah, the “Belle of Georgia” and surrounding islands and the exciting “Big Apple”, New York City, with guided tours to see Central Park, Rockefeller Center, Times Square, Wall Street and much more. New Orleans was the destination of our Spring 2016 bus trip. The French Quarter, riverboat cruise on the Mississippi River, National World War II Museum and a visit to both a plantation and estate were all features of this trip. Two additional trips were enjoyed in 2016. A late summer visit to Mackinac Island in Lake Huron and a fall trip to the majestic Biltmore Estate with it’s beautiful grounds. 2017 started with a spring coastal trip to Virigina Beach where the group stayed in ocean front rooms. Historic Colonial Williamsburg, Norfolk, and the Battleship Wisconsin were part of this trip. A Branson Show Trip had two buses tapping their shoes while attending seven shows in four days. The travelers agreed that “Live Music Show Capital of the World” is a very fitting description for Branson. New in 2017, Marshall County Council on Aging offered a one day bus trip in November to Chicago. The group enjoyed muffins and coffee before headng into the Windy City for shopping at Water Tower Place and then on to experience the Christkindlmarket (an outdoor European-style Christmas market). This may become an annual trip!! Diamond Tours does such a great job with all the details from hiring top-notch guides and charter buses to planning fabulous dinners, tours, and shows. It’s a great way to take a top quality trip without all the planning or driving. Stop by the Life Enrichment Center, or sign-up for our quarterly newsletter to find out where we’re headed next! 12 www.marshallcountycouncilonaging.org (574) 936-9904

Expired and unused medications pose a threat to children and the elderly. Medicine should never be flushed down the toilet, burned in the open, or thrown in the trash. Examples of expired medicines include everything from cold medicine to vitamins, all bulk or loose tablets and capsules, unsealed creams and ointments, all unsealed eye drops and syrups, and any medications required to be kept cold but were not. Improper disposal of sharps (syringes and lancets) also pose a significant threat to any unsuspecting person who may come in contact with them. Place sharps in a non-breakable, puncture resistant container such as a hard-plastic detergent bottle and label the container “sharps.” Many pharmacies also sell containers specifically designed for temporary storage of sharps. You can help prevent injury, illness, and pollution by bringing your expired medications and sharps to Marshall County Solid Waste for proper disposal. These wastes will be disposed of in a safe manner that will not be detrimental to the environment. Be responsible by practicing safe medical waste disposal.
