Towering brick walls and a sturdy, solitary iron column serve to remind that this airy space was once a workshop. Spread out across two floors, and connected by a stylish wooden staircase the open plan layout creates a sense of freedom and allows daylight to reach every corner. The Bookbinder is located in La Latina, one of Madrid’s oldest neighborhoods. Naturally, you’ll find some of the city’s most iconic attractions here. But the neighborhood is far from frozen in time – it offers tapas bars and restaurants on every corner and projects a sense of urban cool. The Bookbinder, from The Plum Guide Calle de Latina, Madrid, Comunidad de Madrid, ES, 28047
Page 4 of 22 September 11 - ART AND CULTURE (Lavapiés) About Lavapiés Lavapiés represents a fusion of people and cultures – Indian restaurants stand next to traditional taverns and Senegalese restaurants commingle with Colombian eateries. Lavapiés has a higher concentration of immigrants than any other neighborhood in Madrid, boasting inhabitants from some 90 different nationalities. Lavapiés is renowned for it’s street art. It’s often referred to as the Triangle of Art, known for its three famous art centers, La Casa Encendida, La Tabacalera and the famous Museo Reina Sofía. Lavapiés has the largest number of neighborhood associations and self-managed centers in Madrid; the most well-known is La Tabacalera de Lavapiés. Located in an old tobacco factory, it’s a collective cultural space where anyone can submit a proposal to set up an exhibit, organize a debate or showcase a documentary. 10:00 AM - Central European Summer Time Breakfast: Cafelito Hours of Operation: 8:00AM - 9:00PM Getting There: Cafelito is a 13 minute walk from your B&B and will take you right into the Lavapiés neighborhood where you will spend the day. Museo Nacional Centro De Arte Reina Sofía Calle de Santa Isabel, 52 917 74 10 00 SIESTA After a long day of exploring (and walking!) you've more than earned a siesta. Take the time to unwind, relax and nap (or sort through all the photos you took!). Remember, much of Madrid shuts down for siesta so you're not missing anything! Because of this, dinner starts much later than it does in the USA. You'll be much happier if you take this time to rest. 8:30 PM - Central European Summer Time Dinner: El Sur Hours of Operation: 12:00PM - 11:00PM Reservation: Your reservation is at 8:30PM under the name "Molly" Getting There: El Sur is a 13 minute walk from your B&B About: Named after Victor Erice's seminal film and decorated with cinematic posters, El Sur is a favorite for locals and tourists alike. You can't go wrong with this menu and it is one of my personal favorites in Madrid both for the ambiance and the food!

Given you're not a huge fan of crowds we recommend arriving on the early side. Around noon the market starts to get more crowded. About: El Rastro is said to be the largest flea market in Europe with some 3,500 stalls covering the winding streets of the oldest residential part of Madrid. As the name suggests, there is no shortage of typical fleam market stands but the best place to shop in Madrid is at pop up markets like El Rastro because many trendy stores and artisans come and host booths. Café Comercial Glorieta de Bilbao, 7, 28004 Madrid +34 910 88 25 25 Get Lost: Malasaña and Cheuca About Malasaña: Transforming from the epicenter of La Movida Madrileña to the trendiest district in town, Malasaña has seen a lot of change over the years. Today, modern restaurants and second-hand shops exist alongside traditional bars and markets. If it’s in style, you’ll find it in Malasaña. About Chueca: Chueca is the gay district of Madrid. From shops, bars, and bookstores, most businesses are focused on the gay community which shares the neighborhood with older people who have lived in Chueca for decades. Chueca pride parties, which are held in late June or early July, are famous worldwide. Recommendations: Some of the trendiest boutiques, featuring both established and up and coming artisans and designers are located in these neighborhoods. Our recommendations are below though we're sure you'll uncover oh so much more as you walk the streets!

You will find traditional tapas restaurants, flamenco bars, cafes and even a cinema lounge. It is a one way street for cars coming up to La Latina district, but it is always full of people walking on the pavement. Restaurants and bars are forever changing and evolving and they update their menus according to local festivities. Recommendation: Start the evening at El Viajero and then stroll the street to see what catches your eye. We recommend swinging into a number of places and having a few tapas at each. Page 17 of 22 10:30 AM - Central European Summer Time - 4 hr Parque de El Retiro (El Retiro Park) Park Hours of Operation: 6:00AM - 9:00PM About: El Retiro Park is a green retreat in the middle of the city featuring a peacock garden, a glass palace and a lake. The park was originally created as a retreat for the Spanish royal family but became public in the late 19th century. Below are five highlights we recommends while in the park! Estanque Grande (Lake): Rent a rowboat to explore the lake or lounge on the stairs of Monument to King Alfonso XII and enjoy the people watching. El Retiro’s monument to King Alfonso XII is one of the largest structures in the park and it cannot be missed. King Alfonso is depicted in bronze on top a 30m high column. Statues representing peace, liberty and progress surround the king, while semi-circle of enormous, grand pillars frame the statue. Palacio de Cristal (Crystal Palace): The palace is a conservatory made almost entirely of glass. Once used as a conservatory for tropical plants, it now displays art exhibitions. La Rosaleda del Retiro: La Rosaleda is one of Retiro Park’s more formal, gated gardens. It was designed in 1915 to bring more elegance to el Retiro. Pabellón de los Jardines de Cecilio Rodriguez (aka The Peacock Garden): Stretched around the garden’s walls are terraced walkways, supported by columns adorned with vines giving the garden a very grand appearance (and shade!). The garden is full of peacocks strutting around with no regard for the people ambling about. Puerta de Alcalá: The Puerta de Alcalá is a Neo-classical gate in the Plaza de la Independencia. The Alcalá Gate is located just in front of the north-eastern entrance of the park. Parque Del Retiro Plaza de la Independencia, 7 915 30 00 41 Popularmente conocido como El Retiro, es un parque de 118 hectáreas (1,18 km²) situado en Madrid. Es uno de los lugares más significativos de la capital española. Lunch: picnic You'll have stopped by Mercado Anton Martin on your way to the park to pick up ingredients for a picnic! El Retiro is a true oasis and we recommend a slow, relaxing lunch where you can enjoy the park and the people, smells and sounds! Head to Casita de Pescador to check out a less visited, but equally as stunning part of the park. Set on a small pond, this quaint, brightly colored house resembles a doll’s house. Located next to one of the lesser-used entrances, Casita del Pescador is in a relatively quiet area of the park. It’s also situated next to a hill you can explore and features a little waterfall.
Page 18 of 22 Casita Del Pescador Parque del Retiro, Madrid, Madrid, España siesta After a long and active day in the park, head back to the B&B for some R&R. Shower, lounge, nap and gear up for a night of adventure! 8:00 PM - Central European Summer Time - 3 hr Flamenco + Food: Corral de la Morería PRICE €50.00 EUR Hours of Operation: 5:30PM - 12:00AM Reservation: Your reservation is for the 9:00 show under the name "Molly" Getting There: Corral de la Morería is 6 minutes walking from you B&B About: Madrid is a city world renowned for its excellent Flamenco performances, and while the popular dance can be seen in several taverns and bars around the city none are quite like Corral de la Morería. Enjoy a three-course meal and after dinner, take in a magical show. Flamenco is not only a dance but also the music to which the dance is performed. It originated in Andalusia and is known mostly for songs accompanied by guitar and complex techniques of foot-stomping, hand-clapping and the use of castanets.

Page 21 of 22 Information & Documents Helpful Information Airport Transfer: After a long and probably exhausting international flight, we recommend exiting the airport and grabbing a taxi. Taxis to anywhere near the center of Madrid are a flat fee of 30€. Getting Around, metro: We recommend using the metro as your primary means of transportation in Madrid (including from the airport if you prefer public transport to a cab). The public transportation in Madrid is one of the best in Europe and is incredibly easy, fast, and cost efficient. The metro runs from 6:00AM to 1:30AM every day and until 2:00AM on Saturdays! A 10 trip pass is about 12€ and you can buy a metro card at the machines inside any station (ability to change the language to English if needed). You can use GoogleMaps public transportation setting to put in where you want to go and it will give you the exact line to take. Getting Around, walking: Madrid is extremely walkable and GoogleMaps is reliable for walking directions. The furthest point to point walk is 35 minutes in your itinerary. Siesta: The siesta is one of the most notable aspects of Spanish life and is defined as the dead period in the late afternoon when everything shuts down in Spain, in theory, so people can rest and take a nap. Over the years, there have been two periods of siesta in Spain—siesta for shops and businesses, when many people go to a bar or restaurant—and then siesta for the restaurants, who obviously can't rest when everyone wants to come and eat. The siesta for shops and businesses is from approximately 2PM until 5PM while bars and restaurants close from about 4PM until about 8PM. Madrid - Tourist Information Barajas - Airport Avenida de la Hispanidad, Madrid +34 913 21 10 00 Madrid’s airport, Barajas (MAD), lies a little over ten kilometres northeast of the city. The cheapest way to get to Madrid is by metro: line 8 goes to Nuevos Ministerios (the journey takes about 30 minutes). A taxi ride costs more at night and on Sundays, and takes about 30-60 minutes, depending on traffic. Numerous car rental companies are also available at the airport. Passport / Visa Spain can be visited visa-free for up to 90 days by citizens of most European countries, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Malaysia, Israel, UAE and most countries in America. If you are unsure whether or not you need to apply for a visa, we recommend contacting the embassy or consulate in your country. International (non-Schengen) travellers need a passport that is valid for at least 3 months after the end of their intended trip in order to enter the Schengen zone. Citizens of Schengen countries can travel without a passport, but must have a valid ID with them during their stay.
Page 22 of 22 Public Transport +34 914 06 88 00 Madrid’s metro system consists of 16 lines that serve both the city and its suburbs. The metro is also the most efficient way of getting around and runs from 6am to 2am daily. The EMT bus network is made up of about a hundred lines, including a useful “circle route” (the buses are marked with a C). Buses run from 6am to 11:30pm daily, with some night buses running later. Taxi When taxis are available for hire, this is indicated by a “Libre” sign in the front windshield and a green light on the roof.
