Lockleys Football Club Junior Handbook 2021 Welcome Message Welcome to all new and existing players and their families to Lockleys Football Club (LFC) for the 2021 season. Whilst 2020 was filled with many ups, downs and false starts we got to play 12 rounds and had a remarkably successful season on the field. Our Junior program had 5 teams play in the Grand Final which was a huge achievement having the most teams in the SANFL juniors only preceded by Port Districts & Brighton. Unfortunately, we did not bring home a flag but we could not be more proud of these Junior teams and the effort , dedication and determination they showed throughout the season. Our senior sides had an incredible successful season winning 3 premierships including the A, B and C grade. Along with this success we were awarded The Champion Club Cup, which is awarded to the most successful Adelaide Footy League Club over the course of the season. To our players, we trust you will enjoy your football with the LFC Juniors this season. Our club is committed to building an environment which will enable all to progress your skills. Our aim of the Lockleys Football Club is to provide a positive, enjoyable, and welcoming environment for young players to develop their skills, in football while also focusing on skills such as team spirit, inclusivity, leadership, friendship, sportsmanship, resilience and self-discipline. Wear your club colours with pride and support your teammates. An underlying foundation of the Club is that we are respectful to anybody else who is involved in our game, whether they are a spectator, supporter, teammate, or opposition. To our families we are sure that you will enjoy the family atmosphere at LFC and look forward to your involvement with our club. At the Lockleys FC it is our expectation that parents and carers are actively involved in our club. Helping at trainings or with official duties on game day, setting up and packing away equipment and help on the BBQ are a requirement of your membership. As a community club, we are run entirely by volunteers so please do not leave things for other people to do, this is your club too! Throughout the season there will be various social and fundraising events organised such as the Ladies Day, raffles, presentation days, etc. I urge you all to embrace these activities as they are vital to the clubs ongoing success as they are important in strengthening our community. Lockleys Football Club continues to grow and become more competitive each season and we cannot wait to hit the oval for 2021. With over 15 Junior teams and 280 players it is guaranteed to be a big year. Please take the time to read through the handbook as it should answer many of the questions you may have. Thank you for joining us this season and we hope that players, parents, and families enjoy the football and community aspects of the Club this year. Go The Dees Merlindie Fardone Junior President 1

You can use the SANFL Junior Website to register for both current and new players online; https://membership.sportstg.com/v6/regoform.cgi?aID=23097&pKey=c0fb18f59673a04a9665723585fc 9c52&cID=232944&formID=36056 New Players Please use our current contact form to submit your interest for the 2021 season. https://www.lockleysfc.com.au/playing-at-lockleys - under the New Players section. We will commence formal registrations online once team numbers have been assessed and then contact you. Age Group Eligibility The SANFL determines that age group eligibility is based on calendar year basis. As a club we follow these age group eligibilities, and it is the LFC Junior Football Club policy that all players play in their correct age group. There is a possibility for exemption in this but such exemption is only granted in conjunction with the club and with club request to SANFL. The LFC provides opportunities for children to play football between the ages of 6 and 17.5 In accordance with SANFL Policy, players must be: • 7 years of age on 1 January of the competition year to participate in the SANFL Juniors competition; and • 6 years of age on 1 January of the competition year to participate in the SANFL Minis competition. The age group for any player is determined by their age on the first of January in the competition year. (As an example, a player who is 8 on the first of January will be eligible to play in the Under 9 competition, a player who is 12 on the first of January will be eligible to play in the Under 13 competition). In instances where the Club does not field a team in a particular age group, players may be allocated to the next higher age group (with the exception of the Under 7 & 8 competition). All players will be placed in their correct age group at the time of registration no matter in what age group they played in the previous season – any changes to this needs to be approved by the Junior President and committee. This will not take place until final team nominations have been submitted end of March. There is criteria around a child playing up, including age & ability. If by chance a child does play up in one season, it is only for that season and will return to their correct age group the following year. It is also club policy that no child will continue playing up past under 11s (once they go to full field). It is also noted that if the team above has the maximum squad size, the younger child automatically is placed in their correct age group. We will also not hold spots for children to play up as part of the squad for the following year. All playing up requests are to be sent to the Junior President for assessment with conjunction with the Coaching Coordinator. 3

• Increase trainings mid-week for older aged teams and increase training time length. • To have each age group to train together as a squad not as individual teams. If you need to leave your child, it is your responsibility to ensure a responsible person has agreed to look after them in your absence. LFC is a family club and our coaches and volunteers are here to give all children a good football experience but cannot be responsible for children outside of their involvement in training or game day. Parent Involvement We invite and encourage all parents to participate and share the experiences of football activities with their children. Involvement within other aspects of the club is also welcomed. Parent membership is encouraged and is vital for the operational success of the club. To assist in supporting the many costs of the Club, there are several sponsorship packages available. If you know of any business or individual who may be interested in sponsoring the Club, a leaflet outlining the benefits is available. Contact the Club Junior President or Sponsorship Coordinator for further details. Club Meals & Presentations We encourage as many families as possible to stay and enjoy a meal together after training, when it is offered. This is a great way to start your weekend, get to know other families, and even watch the football on the big screen! We will endeavor to hold weekly Friday night team presentations / dinners for all our teams throughout the season, this will be communicated through our weekly email and from team managers and club. 7
Player Commitment and Expectations All players at LFC are required to acknowledge and accept a playing code of conduct from the club and SANFL. A core fundamental of player commitment is an expectation on training attendance, behavior, games, and injury management. We encourage coaches to ensure that players are meeting their expected commitment levels ad these requirements differ across age groups. If you know in advance of days, you will not be able to play or train please advise your coach so they can roster you off on those days. Even if you are rostered off players are asked to attend the match and bring their playing gear, as sickness or injury may result in a position becoming available before the start of the game. If you are rostered off, your presence to support your teammates will be appreciated. Also, you may be able to help carrying water or on score board, these roles are required every week and your support is valued. To ensure that everyone can get the most out of our games, we expect the following of our players: • Always play with integrity and according to the rules of the game. • Show respect to our club (our equipment, our facilities, our values), to our community (our coaches, teammates, and members) and to yourself (know that you are welcome and valued). • Respect the umpire’s decision. Never question calls or argue with an official. • Demonstrate good sportsmanship – respect the opposition, control your temper, shake hands at the end of the game, applaud good play on both sides and be a positive influence. • Be a good team player – co-operate with your coach and teammates, arrive on time, attend all trainings, participate fully, always bring your A-game and have a good attitude. • Show appreciation towards volunteer coaches, managers, and administrators. • Do not get drawn in to negative play, stay focused on your influence on the game and let your actions speak for themselves. • Respect your teammates – no single player makes a team. • Attempts to bully, harass, cause physical harm, verbally abuse, degrade, exclude, or belittle have no place in our club, our community or our game and will not be tolerated. The club has several Junior Policies that are available to all families and players via the club’s website. In addition, the SANFL has strict Code of Conduct policies for players who are registered to play in the SANFL Juniors competition. We ask that all families and players familiarise themselves with the policies linked. Codes of conduct can be found here Families and Supporters Expectations We also have codes of behavior that need to be adhered to for the Families & Supporters. We expect our players to operate in a team environment and we expect no less from our supporters. Our junior club is supported by many individuals who volunteer their time to support our kids. A small contribution from everyone reduces the load and results in a more sustainable club structure. It is the Lockleys FC expectation that Families and Supporters: • Remember that children play sport for their enjoyment, not yours. • Encourage children’s participation, do not force it. • Encourage children to always participate according to the rules of the game. • Let their child focus on developing skills, playing the game, and doing their best - take the emphasis away from winning. • Support all efforts to remove verbal and physical abuse from the game. Never engage in, or tolerate, offensive, insulting, aggressive or abusive language or behavior. 8
• Let the coaches do their jobs and do not confuse the players by giving them different instructions to those of the coaches. • Never ridicule, yell at or demean a child for making a mistake or for the team result. • Show appreciation and respect towards coaches, umpires, officials, and administrators. • Respect the umpire’s decision, never question their calls, and teach children to do likewise. • Respect the rights, dignity and worth of all participants regardless of their gender, ability, cultural background, or religion. • Do not enter the field of play during a game unless prompted by a match official. • Follow reasonable directions of Ground Officials. In registering their child to play at the LFC, parents and guardians are confirming their awareness that if they do not follow the Code, any/all the following actions may be taken by the Club or competition administrator. Parents/Supporters may: • Be required to apologise to parents, the other team, and the umpire. • Receive a formal warning from the Club. • Be suspended from attending matches. • Have their child’s registration cancelled and they will not be provided a refund. GRIEVANCES & DISPUTE RESOLUTIONS: If family members, supporters or players have any issues or concerns (such as game day incidents these can be directed the team manager and or coach in first instance). Team selection, personnel conflicts, club concerns etc they are asked to direct any initial communication to the Junior President or Junior Committee in the first instance. If the issue cannot be resolved at this level, the matter will be escalated through to the LFC Club Executive. PLEASE NOTE: Parents, supporters and players are respectfully asked not to approach the SANFL directly without first approaching the Club to have any matters or issues settled at a local level. Direct contact with SANFL Juniors can result in club penalties and sanctions. Club Song It's a grand old flag, It's a high-flying flag, It's the emblem for me and for you. It's the emblem of the team we love, The team of the Red and the Blue. Every heart beats true, For the Red and the Blue, And we sing this song to you (What do we sing!). Should old acquaintance be forgot, Keep your eye on the Red and the Blue. 9
