Spiritual Growth Opportunities
   ➢ Pastor Brad’s study – The Gospel of Luke at Wed. at 10 AM and 6:30 PM in WH

     Dinner is served at 5:15-6:15 PM for $8/person, ($5 for children 4-10 and free for
     children under 4), no more than $25/family. REGISTER HERE for dinner.

FYI
   • Please help us keep the activities and outings in this newsletter alcohol-free.
   • Transportation in church vehicles is provided to most of our Singles, Boomers, and
     Senior events. Masks are optional. For trips 1 hr. or longer, riders are urged to wear
     face masks. For local events, the transportation fee is $2/person. For out-of-town
     trips, the fee will be adjusted accordingly.
   • Face masks at indoor events are now optional.

Lunch in the Kitchen – Apr. 25-28
The Kitchen Lunch Line is open 12-1 PM Mon.-Thurs. The main course, a side, and a dessert
is $5. Add a side salad for an additional $2. A salad lunch plate is $5.
Mon. – Serving line not opened; staff lunch – pizza, salad, cookies, ice cream
Tues. – Raspberry pork tenderloin with rice & broccoli
Wed. – Shepherds Pie and bread rolls
Wed. night – Raspberry pork tenderloin with rice, green beans, Waldorf salad, & rolls
Thurs. – Crunch tacos, rice, beans, & fixings

How Can I Serve?
      • Help Serve the Staff – On Apr. 25, the Kitchen Crew is preparing a brunch for over
        200 people in Wesley Hall and asked if we could coordinate lunch for the staff that
        day. Contact SheriKelley@mdumc.org if you can help with any of the following:
           o Make home baked cookies in Ziploc bags; deliver them to my table in
               Friendship Court on Sun., Apr. 24
           o Pick up pizzas at Domino’s by T&C Randall’s at about 11:45 AM on Mon.; I’ll
               order them ahead of time.
           o Set up the service line in Room D101 at about 11:30 AM on Mon.; the staff
               will then eat in D100
           o Help with clean-up afterward at about 1:15 PM
      • Food for Thought Used Book Sale – Sun., Apr. 24, 8:30-11:30 AM in Friendship
        Court; proceeds go to build a library in Vietnam
• Soupmobile Lunch-makers – Two Wed. teams are being created to each make
       lunches monthly. If you’d like to help, contact KellyWilliams@mdumc.org.
     • Bingo Team – Sheri is looking for one more person to help with Bingo once a
       month on the 4th Thurs. for Body, Mind, & Spirit. Contact SheriKelley@mdumc.org.
     • Card Connection Ministry Update – We write birthday postcards to our members
       each month. Card kits can be picked up and completed at home. Contact
       SheriKelley@mdumc.org if interested in spreading some joy!
     • If you have outdated eyeglasses laying around your house, bag them up and bring
       them to the Friendship Court and leave them at the SAM/OAM table. They’ll be
       sent to Kenya to be distributed in the bush clinics.
     • As we begin to travel about the country & world again, remember to collect all the
       toiletry items in hotels. Bring them to the table in Friendship Court and they’ll be
       delivered to The Beacon homeless ministry downtown.
     • We continue to collect items that the day school needs - toilet paper rolls, paper
       towel rolls, Styrofoam pieces, and shoe boxes. Look for the big, blue donation bin
       in Friendship Court!
     • Hollibrook Elementary families need qt.-sized detergent/fabric softener, cleaning
       products, shampoo, soap, toothpaste, and trash bags. Please drop off on Sunday
       mornings in the collection bins outside worship areas or at the East Entrance of the
       Family Life Center Mon.-Thurs.

     • Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center is always in need of donations. When you donate,
       please note the church’s ID #4308, so MDUMC gets credit for your gift. Give the
       gift of life!

Boomers/Seniors/Singles Fellowship Opportunities
These events are sponsored by both the SAM and OAM councils. Everyone is invited and
welcome to participate at any or all!
   • Apr. 23 (Sat.) – Painted Churches in Schulenberg – We’re leaving at 7:15 AM and
      returning late afternoon. The cost for the tour, guide, and transportation is $32.

   • May 1 (Sun.) – Breaking Bread with Friends – Flying Biscuit Café, 12389 Kingsride,

   • May 7 (Sat.) – Biblical Artifact Museum in Katy – A Walk Through Biblical History is
      an exhibit of biblical artifacts excavated from places in Israel. We’ll leave at 10:30 AM
      and have lunch after our tour at Babin’s Seafood House. The tour is free, but the bus
      will be $2/person. Lunch is individual pay. Contact Marilyn Farr at

   • May 14 (Sat.) – Lucky Land & Airline Farmers’ Market – Lucky Land is an outdoor
      “step back in time” venue where you can visit some of China’s most significant
      historical and cultural sites (including replicas of the Great Wall and Terracotta
      Warriors). Tickets are $9 for seniors (65+) and $12 for adults. Afterward, we’ll visit
      the Airline Farmers Market and eat at a restaurant TBA. If interested, contact Bruce

   • May 21 (Sat.) – Dynamo vs. Nashville at 7:30 PM – Tickets for the soccer game and

   • May 21 (Sat.) – Jersey Boys – 2 PM TUTS Broadway tour performance at Hobby
      Center; Prime Seat tix at $92 each (1 left) and Flex Seat tix at $67 each (8 left);

   • May 22 (Sun.) – Patriotic Concert – in the Main Campus Sanctuary at 6 PM - The
      Chancel Choir, accompanied by a chamber orchestra ensemble, presents an evening
      of patriotic music featuring “The Gettysburg Address” by Mark Hayes. You’ll hear
      other favorites and have the chance to sing along. Please meet us at the van in the
      West Parking lot if you’d like to join us for dinner at Union Kitchen after the

   • May 28 (Sat.) – Japanese Gardens near Hermann Park – Enjoy nature with leisurely
      walking through the beautifully landscaped paths with bridges, waterfall, and
      gardens. We’ll stop for ice cream on the return trip to the church. Plans are to
      depart from the church at 1 PM. The transportation fee is $2/person. Contact Vickie

   • June 4 (Sat.) – Blueberry picking – Blueberry Picking Trip - We'll leave for Conroe at
      7 AM from the west Main Campus parking lot of the church. Please be there at 6:45
      AM to board the bus. We will leave promptly at 7 AM. We'll go to Another Broken
      Egg Cafe for breakfast afterwards and then return to the church. Contact Vickie at

• July 16 (Sat.) – Altharetta Yeargin Art Museum - leaving at 9:45 AM for a 10 AM
    special presentation of her paintings & masks from around the world; lunch at

Regularly Scheduled Events for Single Adults
  • Singles in Action Sunday School Class – This group meets in the Dance Room at 9:30-
    10:30 AM. On Apr. 24, we’ll begin a new series entitled Savior: What the Bible Says
    About the Cross.
  • Wednesday Singles Community Bible Study – This group meets at 7:45 PM in Room
    D101. The spring study has ended, and the group will be on break till the fall when
    the new study will be Decisions: Seeking God’s Guidance. For more information,
    email michelle4752@gmail.com.
  • Social Tennis – This group meets for fun tennis on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 6-8 PM
    at Plaza Oaks Club courts, 744 Brittmore. All levels are welcome. If you’d like to play,

  • Street Hikers – A regular group of walkers have a 2.5-mile route through the
    neighborhood just north of the church. They meet at 6 PM on Mondays in the
    Rummel Creek Elem. parking lot. Contact Bruce at bmadison9487@gmail.com.
  • Zumba – Zumba will be returning on Mondays at 5 PM in the Scout House beginning
    May 2. The pay-as-you-go cost per session will once again be $5 per person.

  • Pickle ball - By mid-May, we hope to have two Pickle ball courts in our Gym. Watch
    for details!

Other Important Information
  • DivorceCare & Grief Share – DC and GS both meet on Tuesdays. Grief Share is at 3-5
    PM in Room D203, and DivorceCare is at 6-8 PM in Room D203. Contact
    SheriKelley@mdumc.org to sign up. The cost is $15 per person for the workbook.
    You do not need to be a member to attend.
  • ID Cards - Pick up your 2X3¾ inch-sized identification cards at the table in Friendship
    Court on Sun. or in Sheri’s office during the week.
  • The Messenger – Would you like to have The Messenger sent to your home address?

• Men of Action Breakfast Programs – Men, you are invited to start your Tuesdays
     (8:00 – 9:00 a.m.) with faith, fellowship, and a hearty country-style breakfast with the
     MDUMC Men of Action in Wesley Hall. Breakfast is only $5, and no RSVP is required.
     Mark your calendars for this month’s breakfast programs:
     Apr. 26 - Superintendent of Spring Branch ISD Dr. Jennifer Blaine will answer a wide
     variety of questions, including those concerning the upcoming bond election.
     May 3 – State representative District 133 candidates in the Republican runoff, Shelly
     Barineau and Mano DeAyala, will speak and answer questions.
     May 10 – Dr. Scott Striplin, an archeologist with emphasis on religious exploration in
     Israel, will talk about his recent discover of ancient writings which speak to the book
     of Exodus. He is Provost at The Bible Seminary in katy.
     May 17 – Dr. Tom Wilson, a member of MDUMC and long-time docent at the Bayou
     Bend home of Ima Hogg, will take us on a virtual journey through the home and its
     collections, an interesting look at Houston history.

   • Monthly MDUWF Meeting – On Tues., May 3, the 2021 Hearts & Hands grants
     recipients will be honored at 10:30 AM followed by lunch in Wesley Hall. The cost is

Deaths
MDUMC member Karen Ward died on Mon., Mar. 28, 2022. She was the wife of MDUMC
    member Skip Ward. A memorial service is scheduled for Sat. Apr. 23, at 10 AM in the
    Sanctuary followed by a reception in Friendship Court.
