Kindergarten Orientation Week Our Kindergarten Orientation Program commenced on Monday this week with some happy, bubbly, smiling faces joining Mrs Hayes, Miss O’Neill and Mrs Gay in the Kindergarten Bilby room. We started our wonderful week off with a tour around the school grounds, visiting classrooms, our chickens and the school library where we met this year’s Kindergarten class. On Tuesday we created some self-portraits that are displayed in the classroom to give the students a sense of belonging in their new environment. We learnt how to read a book on Wednesday and participated in literacy and numeracy rotational activities. All students were so pleased with themselves and were eager to show their parents what they have learnt at ‘big school’. It was sports day on Thursday and we were joined by 5 Year 5 helpers who will be Year 6 school leaders next year. Thank you to Tegan Allport, Annabelle Caves, Erik Skelly, Evelyn Dark and Anthony Barber who ran sporting tabloid events on Benson’s Green. We had a graduation ceremony on Friday to present a gift from the school’s P&C. Each student Ayden Garnham practises writing his name. received a school library bag, socks, a school shirt, information packs and some picture books as well as a certification for completing Orientation Week in 2020. Being a farming community, many of our students were already familiar with the brand but not familiar with their connections to the world of micro-organisms. Our students were lucky enough to prepare and view several samples of microscopic parasites that cause a massive 430 million dollar expense for our farmers. Students were amazed by the impressive microscope and the detail of the parasites that they were able to locate within the samples. A huge thank you to Landmark Crookwell and their staff for Billy Granger participates in the obstacle course with his accommodating and providing our students with this terrific group members. learning experience. Youth Liaison Officer Talk On Wednesday, Stage 3 students welcomed Senior Constable Beard to the school who was here to address the potential issues surrounding online safety. As a generation who is facing an increase of use in the technological world our students were very interested to hear and learn about the online tips and signals to look out for to remain safe and secure when using these devices. Students had the opportunity to ask questions and share experiences with the Senior Constable who has 18 years’ experience and is passionate about keeping our youth safe, especially on online platforms. All participants also enjoyed the experience of trying the handcuffs on! Thank you to Senior Constable Beard for sharing her wisdom, experience and time to assist our students to remain safe online. Invited students adorned their joggers and made the trek to the Crookwell Showgrounds to compete in the 100, 200 and 400m running events. All athletes participated with enthusiasm, sportsmanship and energy. Many students surprised themselves with improvement in their times from previous years and it was impressive to see everyone having such a terrific attempt. Well done to all participants and thank you to Mr Roberts and staff for making this day possible. Stage 3 students were enthralled with the information Senior Constable Beard provided them with. NAIDOC Week Mural On Thursday we were joined by Mark White and Aime Friend from Goulburn High School to help us create a mural as part of our 2020 NAIDOC Week celebrations. All students were involved, painting wooden templates of different animals including emus, kangaroos, lizards, cockatoos and snakes, as well as hand prints and Aboriginal symbols. These templates will then be joined together to create the finished artwork. We are very excited to see what the finished product will look like. Ryann Ross off to a great start in his 200m heat.
