THE RECENT GRADUATE’S GUIDE TO JOB HUNTING Making the transition from college to the professional world is never easy, but it’s even more difficult during a recession. One Virginia Run resident, however, is trying to help recent graduates navigate the process with his new book, The Recent Graduate’s Guide to Job Hunting. Part of the challenge, he says, is that in addition to being extremely competitive, the DC job market has unique characteristics that make it all the more challenging for recent graduates to find a foothold. “Any job listing “I remember what the job search you see is probably going to have hundreds was like after graduation because of people applying for it, my first job search was also assuming there’s even during a recession,” says John a real job behind it. Published in May – just in time for the recent Class of 2020 – The Recent Graduate’s Guide to Job Hunting is available through Amazon.com in both paperback and digital Form. The 250-page book highlights everything from resumes and job interview skills to thank-you notes and networking strategies. “It’s really a crash- course in job searching,” he adds. “It’s everything most of us probably wish we’d known starting out, and it’s also what none of your professors probably told you: Your degree is just the first step in a very, very long process.” JUNE 2020 13
