Hoose News 2018-2019 Number 2 ….(Facts from Defenders.org) Continued… Tornado Safety: Do’s and Don'ts By: Austin Chiesi and Brian Baker You may think that this isn’t a useful article because we have hardly any tornados here, but it is a possibility. This is extremely important if you are in tornado alley, an area that stretches from Central Texas to South Dakota and sometimes going all the way through Iowa, Missouri, Illinois, and Indiana to western Ohio. Remember, tornados can be unpredictable, so play it safe. Do’s ● If you’re in a car, get out and go into a ditch or low ground, if there’s no low ground, keep your seatbelt on and cover yourself with whatever possible, and make sure to cover your neck, too. ● If your house doesn't have a basement, go to a room near or at the center of the house on the lowest floor without any windows or glass. ● If there is a tornado watch in your area, make sure you have your designated shelter ready with supplies (Flashlight, playing cards, blankets, shoes, etc.) ● Also, have a wind-up or battery powered radio to get the latest news on the weather if a tornado hits. Don’ts
Hoose News 2018-2019 Number 2 ● Ok, don’t EVER go under an underpass when a tornado is near you because there’s a wind tunnel and can make it even more dangerous than if you were outside the underpass, the tornado could send flying debris into the underpass. ● Don’t underestimate a tornado, as it can scoop your car or YOU into the air if you try to drive/run away, but, a word of advice: if you have time, find the nearest shelter and go to the lowest floor with no windows(or, a bathroom) ● DON’T EVER ignore a tornado siren! If you hear one, get to the nearest basement or bathroom immediately(and we’re not joking)! ● Don’t go out of your home after a tornado hits. Stay in your house unless you need to leave immediately such as gas leak, fire, flood, carbon dioxide/monoxide leak, etc. KEY WORD: Carbon monoxide: Carbon monoxide is a colorless, odorless, tasteless gas, and is toxic to animals with a lot of blood when it is concentrated above 35 ppm, but it is made in normal animal digestive systems in small amounts. Interesting Facts! Continued….On May 22nd, 2011, an EF5 tornado slammed to Joplin, Missouri, and it was over a mile wide! The absolute monster caused 151 deaths.

Life Cycle of a Star By: Raya Radoslavova and Shanthini Saravanan Every star life cycle starts with a nebula. A nebula is an enormous cloud of gases. The Hydrogen gas in the nebula starts to pull together and spin. After it starts to spin it heats up and eventually it heats up to 15,000,000 degrees! When that happens, nuclear fission starts. The cloud starts to glow brightly and contacts a little, and becomes stable. Now it is a main sequence star. Our sun is a main sequence star.
