ITINERARY DAY 1 | 18 February: Hobart Arrival in Hobart, group gathering, introductions and dinner at the Crowne Plaza in Hobart. DAY 2 | 19 February: Hobart, Mt Field National Park and Goulds Lagoon Sanctuary 5:20am: Sunrise photography session at Hobart Waterfront – Constitution Dock. 7:00am: Breakfast at the hotel. 8:30am: Visit and photograph the colourful Salamanca Market. 10:00am: Russell Falls and Horseshoe Falls Photography Shoot. Bring your filters! 2:00pm: Depart Russell Falls for Gould’s Lagoon Sanctuary – Goulds Lagoon Sanctuary. 4:30pm: Return back to Crowne Plaza and dinner. DAY 3 | 20 February: Cape Pillar Helicopter Flight, Kayaking around Fortescue Bay and Eaglehawk Neck 7:30am: Breakfast at the hotel. 9:00am: Transfer to Port Arthur, Three Capes by Helicopter – 30 minutes, doors off. 11:00am: Kayaking around Fortescue Bay. Appropriate casing to keep your cameras dry! 2:45pm: Visit and photograph Eaglehawk Neck – Devil’s Kitchen, Tessellated Pavements & Tasman Arch – Eaglehawk Neck, Devils Kitchen, Tessellated Pavement State Reserve. 5:00pm: Return back to Crowne Plaza and dinner. Note: Fortescue Bay is probably the most spectacular kayaking spot on the Tasman. Although you won’t get all the way to the Totem Pole, you could paddle to the Shipwreck or along the cliffs depending on the weather. If the weather is unsuitable for this venue there is also a very protected section from Stewarts Bay to Port Arthur Historic Village. Physical requirements: While kayaking experience is not necessary this tour can be physically demanding and you do need to be able to paddle for up to three hours (we do stop for snacks, drinks, photos, lunch and just to enjoy the view though!). 6 Fortescue Bay 57
ITINERARY DAY 4 | 21 February: Helicopter to Cradle Mountain, Dove Lake CONTINUED 7:30am: Breakfast and check-out. 12:30am: Transfer to Cradle Mountain (4.5hrs) and check in at Peppers Cradle Mountain Lodge. 2:00pm: Helicopter flight around Cradle Mountain, 30 minutes, doors off. 5:00pm: Dinner at Peppers Cradle Mountain. 7:00pm: Sunset photography shoot along Dove Lake Circuit. DAY 5 | 22 February: Cradle Mountain National Park Sunrise Photography shoot, Cradle Mountain/Dove Lake. Return to Peppers Cradle Mountain Lodge for breakfast. Free time to process your images and lunch. 2:00pm: Presentation on composition by Ignacio Palacios. 5:00pm: Dinner at Peppers Cradle Mountain. 7:00pm: Sunset photography shoot, Cradle Mountain and Dove Lake Circuit. Marion’s Lookout Photography Session Distance: 2-3 km one-way; time: 1 hour; start: Dove Lake. Marion’s Lookout offers up one of the best views in all of Cradle Mountain National Park. With the stark chiselled twin peaks rising up sharply overhead and the glimmering surface of Dove Lake stretching out below your feet, it’s a great place to sit, photograph and take it all in. But be warned, it gets incredibly windy up here and can become quickly shrouded in low cloud if the weather decides to turn! DAY 6 | 23 February: Arrival in Coles Bay 10:00am: Breakfast and check out. 11:30am: Stop for lunch at Deloraine. 12:30pm: Depart for Campbell Town. 2:20pm: Check in at Edge of the Bay Resort, Coles Bay. 4:00pm: Processing Critique session with Ignacio and Ken at the hotel. 5:30pm: Early dinner. 10 Cradle Mountain National Park 15 11
ITINERARY DAY 7 | 24 February: Binalong Bay and Swimcart Beach – Bay of Fires/Douglas Apsley National Park CONTINUED 3:40am: Binalong Bay sunrise photography session. As the Binalong Bay is a 1h 40 min drive from your accommodation, you will have to leave around 3:40am to ensure you have enough time to get there and set up for your photos. Make sure to bring a snack for the road as breakfast isn’t until 10am. 7:00am: Depart for Swimcart Beach, Bay of Fires. After your sunrise photography session, your driver will drive you 15 minutes up the road to Swimcart Beach where you can spend some time walking along the Bay of Fires. It is just a long stretch of beach so you can take a dip or just sit and relax for a while, or take more photos! 10:00am: Breakfast at Meresta Eatery – Meresta Eatery. Sightseeing on the East Coast – Douglas Apsley National Park. 5:00pm: early dinner. Return to Edge of the Bay for the night. DAY 8 | 25 February: Freycinet, Wineglass Bay and Hazards Beach Circuit 4:30am: Walk to the top of Wineglass Bay Lookout & Hazards Beach Circuit – Our driver will transfer us to the start of the track where we will need to ascend to the top of the lookout (45 min approx.) 2hrs return. Continue the circuit after your sunrise photography session. Lunch. Free time to process your images. 5:00pm: early dinner at Luz Restaurant. 7:00pm: Sunset photography shoot at the Hazards. Return to Edge of the Bay for the night. DAY 9 | 26 February: Freycinet 5:00am: Capture the sunrise at Bluestone Bay. Bluestone Bay is a beautiful spot where waves wash over smooth boulders. The bay faces north-east so sunrise is the time to go. Return back to the hotel for breakfast. 9:30am: Wineglass Bay Cruise. Cruise the spectacular coastline of Freycinet National Park from Coles Bay to Wineglass Bay. Be enthralled by the stunning granite coastline, including the dramatic pink peaks of the Hazards range. Explore the inner passage of remote Schouten Island, home to little penguins and short tailed shearwaters, before heading into the Tasman Sea towards Wineglass Bay. 14 Coles Bay 15
ITINERARY Look out for various hidden sea caves, blowholes and waterfalls amongst the sheer granite cliffs. Take in the sheer beauty of CONTINUED Wineglass Bay from the rarely seen perspective of the water, a shimmering crescent of white sand fringes spilling into glassy turquoise waters. Uncover the rich history of the region, including aboriginal heritage and tales of early explorers and entrepreneurs. Lunch/free time to process your images. 5:00pm: Dinner at hotel. 7:00pm: Photograph Cape Tourville Lighthouse for Sunset. Sunset is the best time to photograph the rugged peaks of the Hazards. Good vantage points can be found in Coles Bay onrocky points accessed from the Esplanade. Look for some interesting rocks for foreground interest, fortunately there are a lot of these many covered in orange lichen that glows in the light of the setting sun. Return to Edge of the Bay for the night. DAY 10 | 27 February: Back to Hobart 10am: Breakfast and check out. Travel from Freycinet back to Hobart (~2.5hrs). Visit Kate’s Berry Farm, Swansea. Visit Raspin’s Beach, Orford. Check in at Crowne Plaza Hobart . 3pm: Last processing/Critique session with Ignacio and Ken (time permitting). 6pm: Farewell dinner at hotel.
