The Jay Weber Show Weekdays 6AM - 10AM Dear Jay Weber WISN Traveler: ! My 2015 “Trip of a Lifetime” will be just exactly that. The continent will be South America, where we have not been to since the very first of my trips in this series. We are headed for Peru; there we will go high* into the Andes to visit a city that was built by the Incas in the 15th century, abandoned a hundred years later, and then “lost” until it’s rediscovery in the very early 1900’s. ! Machu Picchu! ! You know me, folks. I am always looking for a good story. I enjoy a bit of adventure and a good mystery. If I can learn something along the way, so much the better. This isn’t a trip, it’s a journey back in time, and it fits the bill completely. We’re calling it “Mysteries of Peru” and our dates are November 14-22, 2015. ! We begin with our flight to Peru’s capital city, Lima, where we’ll admire the classic colonial architecture, tour a famous monastery, the elegant cathedral and surrounding suburbs for insight into the daily lives of the people. Our stay in Lima is capped by festive Peruvian entertainment. ! From Lima, we fly to Cuzco* in the heart of the Inca civilization. From Cuzco, we’ll descend to the majestic Sacred Valley of the Incas, which was the agricultural center of their great empire. There, we’ll visit Pisac village to browse a colorful handicraft market, and then a famous ceramic studio. (Yes, ladies, you get to go shopping!) ! During our time in the Sacred Valley, we’ll spend time in a nearby community to interact with the locals. We’ll also visit the spectacular Ollantaytambo ruins which is the only Inca settlement continually inhabited since its inception. Being from Wisconsin, this visit would not be complete without a stop at a local pub to try a local “brew” made from maize called “chichi.” ! Following our time in the Sacred Valley, we board the Vista Dome train for our ride through the Andes to fabled Machu Picchu, considered by many to be the most spectacular sight in South America. This is rated as one of the world’s great train rides. ! We’ll have an afternoon guided visit to uncover the mysteries of the ruins. You’ll also have the opportunity to return to explore Machu Picchu on your own the following morning, or browse local markets. If you’re really adventurous, ask about climbing Huayna Picchu, the peak that overlooks Machu Picchu. ! We’ll take the Vista Dome train from Machu Picchu back to Cuzco, where we’ll take a guided tour of this former capital of the Inca Empire. There, the important ruins of Sacsayhuaman Fortress await. You can also
opt for an excursion to the terraces at Maras and the Moray salt mines. Shoppers…we will get you to the central artisan market for souvenirs and gifts including textiles, pottery and jewelry. ! Following our stay in Cuzco, we’ll fly back to Lima where we connect with our overnight flight back to the USA. ! Our 9-day “Mysteries of Peru” adventure is priced at just $5999 plus tax of $159, per person double occupancy or $6899 single, and includes: ! ❖ Roundtrip economy class airfare from Chicago ❖ Flights within Peru ❖ Deluxe and 1st class accommodations throughout ❖ Comprehensive travel insurance ❖ 11 meals: 7 breakfasts, 4 dinners ❖ Private airport transfers within Peru ❖ Sightseeing by deluxe coach ❖ Vista Dome train to/from Machu Picchu ❖ Professional tour manager and English-speaking local guides ❖ Admissions to included attractions and sites ❖ Services of your Cruise & Tour escorts ❖ And more! ! This is going to be a great one, folks. The first time I saw the classic photo of Machu Picchu I said to myself, “Someday I just have to go there.” Well, that “someday” is coming and I couldn’t be more excited. Won’t you join me? ! For reservations and additional information, call Cruise & Tour at 1.800.383.3131. They’ve arranged all of my “Trips of a Lifetime” and “Great Escapes” and nobody does it better! ! Best regards, ! J!ay Weber ! P.S. Wanna add a second world-class destination to your Peruvian adventure? Check out Cruise & Tour’s optional pre-tour Galapagos Explorer extension, taking you to the site of my very first “Trip-of-a-Lifetime.” ! ! *Portions of this tour take place at altitudes of from 7,800 ft. to 11,200 ft.
