Would you like the opportunity to make a real difference to a disabled young person’s life? Derbyshire County Council is looking for Disabled Children Contract Foster Carers to look after 0 – 18 year olds who have complex disabilities. Carers are needed to provide full time and short break placements. Young people may be in need of accommodating by the Local Authority; be ready to move out of residential settings to family based care or be in need of short breaks to support their full time carers and provide opportunities outside of their home. This is a rewarding role for people who enjoy being with disabled children. We are committed to helping all our young people to reach their full potential. Out foster carers are central to this. We would like to hear from people who have the skills and experience of working directly with or caring for young people with disabilities. You will need patience, commitment and time to help them progress and support their individual circumstances. We are particularly keen to hear from carers who may have an adapted property or one which, with support, they are willing to adapt to meet the needs of young people. Carers of the scheme will look after the young person in their own home and the primary carer should not have other employment or commitments. You will work closely as part of the team around the child. Carers for the scheme should ideally not have children under the age of 16 living at home, but we may consider those who have older teenagers. You should also have access to your own transport. You must be at least 21 years of age to foster for Derbyshire County Council. We welcome Disabled Children Contract carers from all backgrounds and ethnicity, and you can be single, married, in a civil partnership of in a same sex relationship. Disabled Children Contract carers whilst approved by Derbyshire County Council are not employed by the council. As a self – employed carer, for providing a full time placement, you will receive approximately £25,140.96 per annum, plus additional allowances dependant on the age of the child in placements. You would be responsible for paying your own tax and national insurance contributions. For providing short breaks you would receive approximately £96.69 plus allowances for every day the child is with you. The Disabled Children Contract Care scheme will provide you with skilled and dedicated support as well as ongoing training and development opportunities. Food hygiene awareness and a good standard of customer service is essential. You will be required to prepare cook and serve food at Cotmanhay Juniors and Infants and also pack out food for another schools in the local area. As part of your duties you will be required to erect and dismantle the dining tables and chairs daily and clean the dining hall. Experience of working with children would be an advantage. Flexibility is required as you may be required to go to other units in the area.
