Contents Welcome Page 3 Welcome Together, we can make 2021 a memorable Cricket Season 4 Isle of Wight Cricket Board Strategy 2020-24 The 2021 cricket season gets underway with a degree of uncertainty; however the lessons learned from last summer put cricket in a stronger position to attract new participants and followers of the 5 Isle of Wight Cricket Safeguarding Statement game, to add to those who are already involved. 6 Umpires The Isle of Wight Cricket Board’s success in creating Island based club competitions in the Isle of Wight Cricket Board Directors/Officers/Staff pandemic stricken 2020 season was widely recognised and appreciated by players, administrators Isle of Wight Association of Officials and local media. In the space of three months, all clubs on the Island did their best to make the Umpire Contacts most of a cricket season without precedents. 7 Structure A year before that as the 2019 season ended, we celebrated the golden summer of England’s Cricket World Cup triumph and an exciting drawn Ashes series. Hopefully we can pick up those 7 2021 Key Dates memories and that optimism as we look to what promises to be a full season of cricket for 2021. 8 Club Contacts There is plenty to look forward to in the professional game with the hope of fans returning to 8 2021 Affiliated Club Section 1 Test and County grounds, however the sport’s long-term future is essentially in the hands of the 13 2021 Youth Team Contacts younger generation. They will be well served by the implementation of the ECB’s 2020 - 2024 Strategy for Cricket - ‘INSPIRING GENERATIONS’. Across the country all County Cricket Boards 14 Fixtures will be actively encouraging youngsters, especially girls, to get-into-cricket via ECB’s national 20 League and Cup Regulations programmes ‘All Stars Cricket’ and ‘Dynamos Cricket’ initiatives, whilst ‘Chance to Shine’ will Isle of Wight League Division 1 & 2 continue to take cricket into state primary and secondary schools. Isle of Wight 20Twenty Island Web Services Senior Cup The Cricket Board’s new strategy is in place, and has five very clear priorities which we are looking Fred Winter Memorial Cup to achieve over the next four to five years. For those aspiring boys and young men, plus anyone who follows cricket at First Class County level, Friday 18th June sees Hampshire 2nd XI taking on Middlesex 2nd XI in a competitive ECB T20 fixture at Newclose. This year will see a girl’s team from Ryde CC entering the Island junior Under 13 League. Ventnor Isle of Wight Cricket Board Safeguarding Statement CC and Arreton CC are also running girls’ sections this season. Our Isle of Wight Girls’ squad – who The Isle of Wight Cricket Board is fully committed to ensuring that all the children and their families who participate regularly trained at Ryde School in 2019/20 and played some inter squad matches during summer in any of our activities have a positive learning experience in a safe environment, regardless of their ability. Isle of Wight Cricket Board Strategy 2020-24 • Sharing information with children and their families about good practice by publishing our safeguarding and child protection policies so that all children and their families are aware of our intentions and know who to contact or talk to if they have concerns. • Using our safeguarding and child protection procedures to share concerns and relevant information with agencies, who need to know, and involving children, young people, parents, families and careers appropriately. • Creating and maintaining an anti-bullying environment and ensuring that we have a policy and procedure to help us deal effectively with any bullying that does arise. • Building a safeguarding culture where all our adult members, the children, young adults and their families know how they are expected to behave and feel comfortable about sharing concerns. • Ensuring that we provide a safe physical environment for our children, young people, staff and volunteers, by applying health and safety measures in accordance with the law and regulatory guidance. • Publishing our complaints procedure and whistleblowing policy so that everyone knows how to approach us with any of these issues. • Reviewing our policies and procedures annually.
