Case Study PureGym Gloucester chooses DuraTRAIN fitness flooring PureGym is one of the country's fastest growing budget gym chains, with the goal of giving as many people as possible the opportunity to enjoy a fit and healthy lifestyle by making it simple, affordable and convenient for everyone to achieve their personal health goals. With that in mind they locate a lot of their gyms in busy town and city centres, often within shopping centres or adjacent to retail shops - so keeping the noise generated within the gym to a minimum is a prime concern. A proposed new PureGym site in Gloucester was to be located in a retail park, with shops located both behind and next to the gym. For the site to go ahead, PureGym had to demonstrate that when weights were being dropped in the gym that they didn't exceed the ambient sound level in the adjacent shops. PureGym commissioned independent consulting firm M-EC Consulting Development Engineers to carry out sound assessments at the Gloucester site and subsequently on the whole range of DuraTRAIN and DuraSOUND tiles (32mm, 51mm, and 70mm). They concluded that the 70mm tiles clearly passed the test criteria for Gloucester and said "DuraTRAIN has been shown to significantly reduce floor impact noise being transmitted through the building structure, mitigating disturbance to adjoining occupiers." DuraTRAIN has now been selected as the preferred flooring choice for all PureGym free weights areas - it's the most cost effective solution that meets their sound attenuation requirements, whilst still providing a functional floor for training.

heavy-impact tests use 25 lb and 55 lb weights dropped at various heights to demonstrate a
more-realistic effect of how our product will perform within a fitness center environment. Sound levels are specifically measured in decibels. However, you have to consider decibel
measurements carefully as the decibel scale is logarithmic, not linear. Every increase of 10dB
on the scale is equivalent to a 10-fold increase in sound intensity (which broadly corresponds
with a doubling in loudness).
