DAY 1 Friday 29th October, 2021 MELBOURNE TO GRAFTON Welcome to our 7 day tour to Grafton in northern NSW. This morning we make our way to Melbourne Airport to board our flight to Coolangatta. We’ll be met by our O’Shannessy’s Touring Coach and crew on arrival and after loading up we drive south, stopping for lunch in Cabarita Beach. We then continue through rolling green hills with banana plantations and pockets of sugar cane, passing Kyogle and Casino to our destination of Grafton, a city of tree lined streets and graceful old buildings overlooking the Clarence River. As early as 1866 Grafton council resolved to consider by-laws for the planting and preserving of trees and shrubs in the streets and recreation grounds. There are now some 7,000 trees in Grafton and many beautiful parks. The most famous of the trees is of course the Jacaranda - the Jacarandas flower at this time each year providing a spectacular setting. OVERNIGHT: Quality Hotel, GRAFTON DAY 2 Saturday 30th October, 2021 LOCAL SIGHTSEEING After breakfast a local expert will board the coach for a tour of Grafton. Next is a visit to Schaeffer House, now home to the Clarence River Historical Society, the oldest historical society in the country. We then head north to Junction Hill to visit Lanbruk’s Gunyah – the property belonging to Dorothy and Don Enders. Here we’ll be taken on a tour through the olive grove; see the animals (alpacas and Dorper sheep to name a couple) in the paddocks before a delicious lunch. We have the opportunity to browse through the gift shop to admire local handicrafts and, of course, pick up a supply of the organic olive oils produced here. There is even a museum housing the fully restored and still running, 1926 Chevy Utility. OVERNIGHT: Quality Hotel, GRAFTON
DAY 3 Sunday 31st October, 2021 YAMBA AND TULLYMORGAN This morning we take in the sights of Yamba, a quiet seaside town on the southern side of the Clarence River estuary. We will see the Yamba Lighthouse, located on South Head, standing 41m above the sea. It offers fine views of the coastline and is a popular whale-watching site in the winter months. Nearby is a replica of the original 1879 lighthouse erected by volunteers for use as a community radio station. We also visit Angourie, a popular surfing spot and Maclean, known as “the Scottish Town” and noted for its historical buildings. There’s also time to browse in the Scottish Corner and perhaps find our clan and tartan! From here we travel across to Tullymorgan to visit the Glen Ian Ostrich and Emu Farm for lunch. We are also treated to an insight of these giant birds, in addition to the incubation process and chicks. The farm is also home to alpacas and goats…not to mention numerous other bird varieties. We have another interesting tour this afternoon at the Reeves Family Sugar Farm. We are here at harvesting time so our host will take us through to the harvesting site, which we may see the big harvesting machines in action. Visiting here will give us an insight into the local industry and lifestyle of a cane farmer. OVERNIGHT: Quality Hotel, GRAFTON “... Look out for the power poles around town painted in Scottish tartan …” www.visitnsw.com
DAY 4 Monday 1st November, 2021 WOOLGOOLGA AND COFFS HARBOUR Today our sightseeing takes us back to the coast, stopping for a morning tea break in Woolgoolga. We have time to wander town and purchase some lunch. On our way out of town we stop in to visit the Carobana Chocolate Factory. We’ll see where honeycomb, brittles and fudges are made and enjoy the samples in the shop. Leaving the coast, we drive up to Bruxner Park for some excellent views overlooking the city and coast. We return to Grafton through the country town of Nana Glen and onto Glenreagh, nestled between the hills on the Orara Riverbank where we’ll stretch our legs. Lunch at own expense and arrangement OVERNIGHT: Quality Hotel, GRAFTON DAY 5 Tuesday 2nd November, 2021 WATERFALL WAY Today we head south to the viewing platforms at Ebor Falls in the Guy Fawkes National Park, providing us with dramatic views of the falls and the rugged country to the north. The Skywalk especially will provide some spectacular views. After lunch we drive down towards the coast with a brief stop in the historic township of Bellingen. Nestled on the banks of the beautiful Bellinger River, Bellingen is one of the most beautiful and historic towns on the North Coast. As we reach the coast we drive up through Coffs Harbour to the Forest Sky Pier at Sealy Lookout, located on an escarpment 310 metres above Coffs Harbour, projecting 21.6 metres beyond the original lookout and offers an expansive vista encompassing Coffs Harbour city and beyond. On a clear day you can see 100km to the south! OVERNIGHT: Quality Hotel, GRAFTON
