This past year has been anything but ordinary. In the light of crisis, disconnectedness, and adapting to the unknown, the Anaheim Community Foundation (ACF) has served as a beacon of hope for thousands. Your support, along with the generosity of our partners, has been the driving force of our progress. OUR MISSION IS TO BUILD COMMUNITY THROUGH PEOPLE, PARTNERSHIPS, AND PRIDE. We do this through: COMMUNITY IMPACT: Supporting nonprofits and investing in community-based programs to impact our community’s youth, families, and seniors; COLLABORATION: Serving as a lead convener to promote the power of collaboration; PHILANTHROPY: Creating a culture of giving back by providing opportunities to make charitable donations that directly benefit the Anaheim community. Thanks to support and funding from partners such as the City of Anaheim, Samueli Foundation, Disneyland Resort, Orange County Community Foundation and local businesses and residents, ACF is able to advance its mission. ACF is dedicated to improving the quality of life in Anaheim by connecting donors to community needs they care about and providing leadership in critical community issues. When you support ACF, you become part of something bigger. Both in times of critical need and celebrating progress, ACF is there to provide a foundation of opportunity for all in Anaheim.

ANAHEIM COMMUNITY SERVICES PROGRAM FUNDS JULY 2019 - DECEMBER 2020 In order to make charitable donations possible, ACF serves as the fiscal agent for numerous Anaheim Community Services program funds. The following pages describe the impact this support has made possible.
YOUTH PROGRAMS ANAHEIM COMMUNITY SERVICES VOLUNTEER RECOGNITION EVENT The 42nd annual Volunteer Recognition Event “Volunteers are All That Jazz” was planned for March 26, 2020, but was unfortunately postponed to 2021 due to the pandemic. With donations through ACF, this annual event celebrates volunteers from Fire & Rescue, Police, and an array of Community Services programs. This event also recognizes contributors from local corporations and service clubs, including the Anaheim Arts Council, Anaheim Public Library Foundation, Anaheim Public Works Transportation Center, Anaheim Senior Citizen’s Club, City of Anaheim Employees, Disneyland Resort, Disney VoluntEARS, Friends of the Anaheim Public Library, Friends of the Canyon Hills Library, Kiwanis Club of Greater Anaheim, L-3 Harris and Employees, Republic Services, and SA Recycling. ANAHEIM VOLUNTEEN PROGRAMS VolunTEEN programs from July 2019 through March 2020 had over 200 teens volunteering throughout the city and contributing over 10,000 hours of service. Sites included the Miraloma Family Resource Center, Pearson Park Amphitheatre, Oak Canyon Nature Center’s O.A.K.S. Summer Day Camp, East Anaheim Gymnasium, Anaheim City Hall, S.T.A.R.S., and the Tiny Tots Program. DOWNTOWN ANAHEIM & WEST ANAHEIM YOUTH CENTERS The Downtown and West Anaheim Youth Centers continued to provide a variety of activities for their youth members. ACF managed funding of $1,500, which included contributions of over $1,000 from the Anaheim City Employee Giving Campaigns. Donations helped to serve over 1,000 youth by offsetting the cost of recreation activities, field trips, and special events. Due to the pandemic, both Youth Centers were closed to the public in March 2020.
PROJECT S.A.Y. Project S.A.Y. (Support Anaheim’s Youth) is the city’s Youth Development Program. With donations through ACF, the program provides outreach, recreation, sports, and academic support to help junior high and high school-age youth develop the knowledge and skills for successful transition to adulthood. In 2020, Project S.A.Y. shifted to virtual meetings moderated by Project S.A.Y. Outreach Coordinators to keep youth engaged through discussion and leadership activities. Project S.A.Y. also leads the Folklorico and Cultural Dance program, where youth participate in the cultural heritage and rich history of Mexican folk dance. Support through ACF helps offset the cost for dance costumes, shoes, and supplies. Youth dancers have performed in numerous events, including the Sycamore Junior High School Open House; Miraloma Park Family Resource Center’s Mexican Independence Celebration, Dia de Los Muertos Show, and Holiday Performance; Meet on Beach event; Fall Festival Halloween Parade; City of Anaheim Dia de Los Muertos; Katella High School Talent Show; and various other community events. TINY TOTS ACADEMY The Tiny Tots Academy provides a nurturing educational environment to prepare children for kindergarten. The program assists children in their emotional, social, and intellectual development by providing hands-on experiences inside and outside the classroom. ACF received $298 in support from the Anaheim City Employee Giving Campaign. Due to the pandemic, program services were postponed in March 2020 YOUTH PARK PLAYGROUND PROGRAMS With over $96,000 of support managed through ACF, youth programs continued to provide free after-school activities and homework help through the S.T.A.R.S. program, special events, and the “Fun on Wheels” mobile recreation programs. Over 50,000 children participated in these programs during this reporting period. With traditional programming suspended in March 2020 due to the pandemic, youth craft kits were distributed at four sites (Ponderosa, Miraloma, Danbrook and Brookhurst) until the end of the school year. YOUTH SCHOLARSHIPS FOR RECREATION AND ENRICHMENT Thanks to support through this ACF fund from D.E.V.O.T.E, Jersey Mike’s Subs, and other donors, over 300 youth program scholarships were awarded to qualifying low-income families. These scholarships helped youth participate in the variety of recreational
opportunities offered through Anaheim Community Services, including art, dance, music, and sports classes, and day camps. Due to the pandemic, recreation classes were suspended in March 2020 until safe to resume. COMMUNITY PROGRAMS FLAG DAY CEREMONY ACF managed $6,129 in support for the annual Flag Day Celebration held on Sunday, June 14, 2020. This year, participants chose to display their patriotic spirit with a procession of festively decorated vehicles driven around local parks. Contributions from both individuals and businesses totaled $1,100. NUTCRACKER DOWNTOWN HOLIDAY TREE LIGHTING The Nutcracker Holiday Committee coordinated the 25th Annual Tree Lighting on December 7, 2019. Center Street Promenade and Feldhaus Circle were transformed into a Winter Wonderland. Over 4,000 people enjoyed free holiday crafts, train rides, pictures with Santa, snow play, and holiday entertainment. The event concluded with a Tree Lighting Ceremony featuring holiday music from Shoreline Trombones, a visit from Nutcracker’s heroine Clara and the Nutcracker Prince, the talented voices of the Anaheim Union High School Combined Choirs, a reading of “Twas the Night before Christmas” by Santa, and a bilingual medley from Anaheim resident and Mouseketeer, Sean Oliu. Donations were made through ACF from the City of Anaheim, Anaheim Public Utilities, Pacific Symphony, Assembly member Tom Daly, SA Recycling, as well as local businesses and individuals. West Coast Arborists provided poinsettias for the base of the tree. Due to the pandemic, the 2020 Holiday Tree Lighting was postponed until 2021. THERAPEUTIC RECREATION PROGRAM The Anaheim Accessibility Center (formerly the Anaheim Train Depot) was renovated to comply with ADA standards. With donations through ACF, the center works in collaboration with Orange County YMCA, Anaheim Family YMCA, and Creative Identify to provide services to residents with developmental disabilities. Due to the pandemic, in- person programming was suspended in March 2020. WEST ANAHEIM NEIGHBORHOOD DEVELOPMENT COUNCIL (WAND) ACF managed $11,867 in support for West Anaheim Neighborhood Development Council (WAND). WAND has persevered despite rainstorms postponing the 2019 Holiday Magic Christmas Tree Lighting event, and the pandemic preventing the 2020 Tree Lighting
and 24th annual Western Barbeque. WAND coordinated a 2020 virtual tree decorating and lighting to share with the community. WAND appreciates the continued support of Anaheim Public Utilities and various community organizations with the hope of resuming events in 2021. YOUTH TENNIS TOURNAMENT ACF managed $81,384 for the Youth Tennis Program fund. The 56th annual “Anaheim Junior Tennis Tournament” was held November 30 – December 1, 2019 at various locations throughout the City, including the Anaheim Tennis Center. CULTURAL AND PERFORMING ARTS PROGRAMS CENTER GALLERY ACF managed $1,000 in support for the Center Gallery, which showcases beautiful craftsman-style wall, counter, pedestal, and hallway niche display cases. Exhibitions are free to the public and scheduled year-round. In 2019, a variety of Orange County artists provided seven exhibits that were viewed by thousands of visitors. Due to the pandemic, in-person receptions were shifted to virtual showcases in March 2020. CONCERTS IN THE PARK The free summer concert series held at Ronald Reagan Park provides four concerts for neighbors and families to enjoy great music and fun family activities. Attendance averages 1,400 people per concert. In 2019, residents enjoyed music ranging from the 60’s to today’s hits from some of the best cover bands in Orange County. A “Concert on the Green’’ was added to the series at Dad Miller Golf Course. Donations through ACF were received from local organizations and individuals like Wescom Credit Union, Karyn Schonherz of Berkshire Hathaway Home Services, Orange County 3rd District Supervisor Don Wagner, Ron Siegel Radio, and Schneider LASIK. Due to the pandemic, summer 2020 concerts were cancelled. PEARSON PARK AMPHITHEATRE Due to the pandemic, the 2020 ‘Summer Nights Under the Stars’ season was postponed. Donations of $5,200 made through ACF will be allocated to the 2021 season, featuring musical theatre, juggling and acrobatics, magic, and music! Donors included local organizations and individuals, Anaheim Arts Council, L3 Harris, Workers United Local 50, Council Member and Mrs. Stephen Faessel, Aldi, Anaheim Police Association, LKQ Pick Your Part, and the Kiwanis Club of Greater Anaheim.
SOCIAL SERVICES PROGRAMS COMMUNITY ASSISTANCE SPECIAL EVENTS During 2020, donations through ACF provided programs and special events to over 1,000 individuals. Due to the pandemic, in-person special events were suspended until safe to resume. ANAHEIM MOTEL FAMILIES PROJECT Financial support of this program is made possible by donations to the ACF. COMMUNITY DISASTER RELIEF During 2020, donations through ACF’s Community Disaster Relief Fund were supported the Community Services Food Pantry program, which provided shelf stable and fresh produce bags packed weekly by Community Services staff. In total, 4,500 bags were distributed to over 18,000 families in need at the Ponderosa Park Family Resource Center and Miraloma Family Resource Center. NATURE PROGRAMS OAK CANYON NATURE CENTER The Oak Canyon Nature Center is a natural park nestled in the heart of Anaheim Hills. Located on site is the John J. Collier Interpretive Center, which has live animal and regional natural history exhibits. During this past year, the Nature Center served over 100,000 visitors and ACF managed over $170,000 worth of funding for the center overall. Funds will be directed toward enhancing the Interpretive Center’s educational interactive exhibits and the provision of activities that encourage children to learn about the environment and the natural world. Due to the pandemic, in-person programs and events such as the Spring Fling and Eco Fun Faire were suspended in March 2020.
SENIOR PROGRAMS SENIOR CITIZENS EMERGENCY ASSISTANCE During 2020, ACF managed $5,700 in emergency assistance funding. Assistance provided to seniors is based on the needs of each client, such help with utility bills and medical-related costs. SENIOR CITIZENS PROGRAMS ACF managed $11,618 in donations to help offset costs for Anaheim Active Older Adult Program events at three Anaheim community centers. Since July 2019, 1,400 seniors participated in special events including Holiday Dances and Luncheons, Chinese New Year’s Celebration, Health & Fitness classes, and a Health Resource Fair. Due to the closure of community centers and gymnasiums as a result of the pandemic, in-person programming, fitness programs, and annual tennis tournaments were suspended in March 2020. OTHER SUPPORTED ACTIVITIES ANAHEIM EMPLOYEE GIVING ACF manages donations designated through Anaheim City Employee Giving Campaigns to several community organizations, including Orange County Family Justice Center, Cops-4- Kids, and Anaheim Public Library Foundation. ANAHEIM HEALTH FAIR For the past 14 years, the Anaheim Health Fair has provided a much-needed free access to health care services. This event would not be possible without the dedication of volunteers, as well as event sponsorships made through ACF, including: Masimo Foundation, Drs. Bharat and Ninna Patel Family Foundation, Sarva Mangal Family Trust, Freeman,
Walmart, Anaheim Public Utilities, OC Water District, and the Clubhouse at Anaheim Hills. Partners include: Anekant Community Center, City of Anaheim, GBS Linens, Inc., and Lestonnac Free Clinic, and OCCORD. The Health Fair took place in 2019, but was canceled in 2020 due to the pandemic. ANAHEIM POLICE PROGRAMS The Anaheim PD Mounted Enforcement Unit celebrated 25 years in 2020. The unit – consisting of six officers, a sergeant, a lieutenant, and their horses – is part of the Orange County Regional Mounted Unit, which consists of the eight police agencies in O.C. with mounted units (Anaheim, Santa Ana, Orange, Newport Beach, Buena Park, Irvine, Huntington Beach and the Orange County Sheriff’s Department). This fund supports expenses for the horses as well as charitable activities like visiting CHOC Children’s Hospital to put smiles on the faces of children by delivering toys to the Orange hospital. The fund balance is $6,367. This fund was established in support of the annual Anaheim Police Department’s Awards and Retirement Ceremony. The ceremony includes awarding of the Medal of Valor, Distinguished Service, Life Saving, Joseph T. Malloy Career Achievement, Special Recognition, Special Unit of the Year, Division Employee of the Year (both Sworn and Civilian), and Randall W. Gaston Community Service Award. The ceremony also honors current retirees. Due to the impacts of COVID, the Department was unable to hold the annual awards ceremony in May 2020. As a result, all donations received in 2020 were returned to the donors. ANAHEIM FIRE SAFETY AND EDUCATION Anaheim CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) promotes the training and participation of our volunteer force to better prepare for and respond to disasters. Donations to this fund through ACF help provide training in a variety of operations, including Stop the Bleed, traffic control, animal rescue, and shelter operations. Anaheim Fire Department’s Education/Community Relations program provides resources, fire safety education, and information to local residents and businesses. In addition, the annual Spark of Love campaign helps Anaheim families in need during the holiday season. Anaheim Fire & Rescue’s Fire Explorers program helps aspiring firefighters ages 14 to 20 to learn various firefighting skills, such as ladder techniques, wildland firefighting, forcible entry, and first aid skills. Donations through ACF help to purchase fire safety equipment and/or to send participants to the fire academy held by the county. Wear Your Helmet like a Pro program focuses on helmet safety for children ages 5 to 14. The goal is to provide a helmet for every child that needs one. Donations made through ACF have helped provide 9,000 safety helmets to Anaheim youth.
COMMUNITY GARDENS There are currently three (3) community gardens in the City run by the neighboring community members. The Community Gardens project began in 2012 as a way to transform vacant and unused spaces throughout Anaheim into community gardens that encourage relationships and healthy living. Garden plots are made available to community members at each garden. As the fiscal agent, ACF manages donations to support each of the projects. DEVOTE (DEDICATED EMPLOYEE VOLUNTEERS OFFERING TIME & ENERGY) As the Anaheim’s s employee volunteer and philanthropic group, DEVOTE has provided opportunities for employees to support the community for over 25 years. In 2020, employees contributed almost $10,000 through the Anaheim City Employee Giving Campaign. ACF manages DEVOTE’s funds, while a volunteer board of city employees operates its programs.
