CHAIRMAN'S STATEMENT Following the launch of the Industry Transformation Map (ITM) for Logistics in November 2016 and the Logistics Industry Digital Plan rolled out by the Infocomm Media Development Authority to help SMEs in the Logistics sector digitalise through Innovation Initiatives, “Transformation” became a buzzword throughout the year. Year 2017 was a defining year in that growth prospects of advanced economies improved and the logistics industry benefited from global trade flows. Singapore’s economy expanded 3.6 per cent, better than expected. Although uncertainties remained, many of our members, especially the SMEs could sense a more benign business environment. Following the launch of the Industry Transformation Map (ITM) for Logistics in November 2016 and the Logistics Industry Digital Plan rolled out by the Infocomm Media Development Authority to help SMEs in the Logistics sector digitalise through Innovation Initiatives, “Transformation” became a buzzword throughout the year. Board of Trustees The property of the Association situated at 153B Goldhill Centre, Singapore 307607 continued to be vested in and held in trust by a board of trustees comprising Mr Stanley Lim – Chairman and Mr Poh Key Boon – Council Member. The other trustee, Mr Sharafdeen s/o Abdul Rasak – Council Member relinquished his appointment on 28 August 2017. Legal Counsel Ms Wendy Tan from Morgan Lewis Stamford LLC has been reappointed SLA Legal Counsel for another year. The Association has benefitted much from her advice pertaining to international laws / conventions and legal matters. MEMBERSHIP & CORPORATE AFFAIRS 43rd Annual General Meeting Addressing close to 100 member-representatives and staff at the SLA 43rd Annual General Meeting (AGM) held on 26 May 2017 at Mandarin Oriental Singapore, Mr Stanley Lim – Chairman recapped on the initiatives and activities organized in the previous year 2016. Notably, he highlighted the launch of the Logistics Industry Transformation Map (ITM) to reinforce Singapore's position as a global logistics hub and key role entrusted to SLA with support from members. Among many developments, the Association has been designated as the lead trade association for the logistics sector with the award of the Local Enterprise & Association Development Programme Plus (LEAD Plus) by SPRING Singapore. LEAD Plus would support and help enhance the management capabilities of the Association to roll out initiatives in this transformation process. 12 #IGNITETRANSFORMATION

ISO 9001:2008 The yearly surveillance visit by Lloyd’s Register Quality Assurance (LRQA) to the Association and its subsidiary, The Logistics Academy took place on 21 February 2017. The inspection affirmed that the Quality Management Systems of both organisations were effectively maintained in accordance with ISO 9001:2008, with a strong focus on continuous improvement to better serve their members and participants. COURTESY VISITS Embassy of France in Singapore Officials from the Embassy of France in Singapore called on SLA on 19 January 2017 to notify that they would be organizing a seminar on logistics in partnership with NOVALOG, a French cluster dedicated to logistics innovation on 27 February 2017. The aim was to bring a focused delegation of SMEs to Singapore and to introduce innovative solutions designed to improve efficiency, productivity and competition for the logistics industry. The programme included a business matching session between SLA members and the French companies following the seminar on 28 February 2017. Yang Kee Logistics, SLA member, also hosted the delegation at its premises. The delegation was delighted by its warm reception and the session was fruitful. International Ocean Freight Forwarders Logistics Association Taiwan Following a port tour hosted by PSA, the following delegates from the International Ocean Freight Forwarders & Logistics Association, Taiwan (IOFFLAT) paid a courtesy visit to the Association on 05 June 2017: à Mr Mu-Chih Chen – Chairman of IOFFLAT à Mr Chih-Chang Shih – Safety Adviser of IOFFLAT à Mr Zheng-Xian Li – Director of Chemical Safety, Safety and Health Technology Center à Ms Yu-Ching Lin – Assistant of IOFFLAT They were received by Mr Thomas Sim –Second Deputy Chairman, Ms Ng Soo Hwa – Executive Director and Mrs Chua Li Tzer – Manager. The delegation was here to gather information for its research project on the upgrade of safety level in port areas in Taiwan. Feng Chia University Mr Stanley Lim – Chairman and Ms Ng Soo Hwa – Executive Director hosted Associate Professor Liu Weng-Kun – Director, Industrial Master Program from Feng Chia University on 06 July 2017 at the Association and learnt about the various initiatives such as Students Exchange and Master’s Degree programmes. Health Promotion Board Mr Teo Woon Hun – Deputy Honorary Secretary was nominated for a 3-year term to represent the Association at the Tripartite Oversight Committee (TOC) on Workplace Health, in particular, the Sub- Committee on Mature Workers in key priority sectors. The sectors that have a higher proportion of mature workers include Transport & Logistics, Cleaning, Security, Education, Retail, Healthcare and Food & Beverage. Led by the Health Promotion Board, the TOC is co-chaired by Senior Minister of State (Health), Dr Amy Khor and Minister of State (Manpower), Mr Sam Tan. It was established in 2014 to oversee and drive the development and execution of an integrated workplace safety and health roadmap to improve health and wellbeing of Singapore workforce. Future Economy Committee – Trade & Connectivity Sub-Committee The Association is represented by Mr Stanley Lim – Chairman at the Future Economy Committee - Trade & Connectivity Sub-Committee. A meeting held on 10 November 2017 focused on the Industry Transformation Maps for Sea Transport, Air Transport and Land Transport. The key points include exploring greater synergies and strengthening inter-linkages with related sectors as well as for the government to work closely with SMEs to ensure that they are involved in the transformation process to provide good jobs and opportunities for workers. Singapore Manufacturing Federation The Singapore Manufacturing Federation Manufacturing Standards Committee was restructured into Service Standards Committee (SvSC) in alignment with the Industry Transformation Maps. Mr Thomas Sim – Second Deputy Chairman was nominated to represent the Association in the new SvSC till 31 March 2020. Aimed to develop, promote and support the implementation of standards for the service and service-related industries, SvSC ensures that the standards developed support national initiatives, emerging trends and industry transformation, leading to a vibrant and innovative service sector in Singapore. International Federation of Freight Forwarders Associations (FIATA) FIATA HQ Session Mr Stanley Lim – Chairman and Mr Thomas Sim – Second Deputy Chairman joined some 242 participants from 63 different countries at the FIATA HQ Session held from 30 March to 02 April 2017 in Zurich, Switzerland. The agenda was discussed under its structured Institutes, Advisory Bodies, Working Groups and Regional Meetings, each covering every aspect that affect the international movement of freight. FIATA World Congress 2017 The FIATA World Congress was organised by the Federation of Malaysian Freight Forwarders (FMFF) in Kuala Lumpur from 05 to 08 October 2017. The annual event attracted over 1,000 delegates from 77 countries. Based on the theme “Logistics Bridging Global Trade”, various meetings of FIATA Institutes, Advisory Bodies, Regional bodies and Committees were held. There were good presentations on contemporary topics like how e-commerce reshape freight forwarding and logistic industry and freight forwarders should adapt their services to this new trend. During the FIATA General Meeting, the Presidency and Extended Board for the new term were elected. Mr Babar Badat from Pakistan succeeded Mr Zhao Huxiang, from China as President. Sea Checkpoints Security Coordinating Committee The Association, as represented by Mr John Iversen – Council Member / Chairman of Maritime Cargo Committee participated in the meetings of the Sea Checkpoints Security Coordinating Committee, a joint collaboration between Immigration & Checkpoints Authority of Singapore and Ministry of Home Affairs. With a mandate to strengthen the security at the land-based sea checkpoints, the 4th and 5th committee meetings were held respectively on 23 May and 18 December 2017. Transportation Specialists Legal Liability Insurance With an aim to bring greater benefits to SLA members, Honan Insurance Group (Asia) reviewed and revised the SLA Transportation Specialists Legal Liability Insurance programme in the last quarter of 2017: Ã Coverage expanded from 3 to 4 categories – Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum. Ã Combined category for Errors & Omission /Special Cargo /Customs Liability /Supplementary Payment at $50,000 to facilitate claim.
