They are available in a PCI Express (PCIe) form factor for HP ProLiant DL, ML, and SL servers, and in a mezzanine card form factor for HP BladeSystem c-Class server blades (BL servers). By connecting to HP ProLiant servers via the PCIe bus, HP IO Accelerators integrate seamlessly into your existing HP Converged Infrastructure framework—simplifying data center infrastructure while reducing associated cost and risk. With HP IO Accelerators, you benefit from: • Higher IOPS performance, along with faster read/write capabilities • Improved data accessibility, enabled by better latency • Zero-footprint server integration • Accelerated database/data mining performance • Faster, better-informed decisions based on up-to-date business intelligence • Enterprise-class quality, endurance, and reliability • More efficient data center operations • Increased business productivity
Family data sheet | HP PCIe IO Accelerators Delivering enterprise-class service Watch the live demo to find out how these The HP IO Accelerator family includes the ioDrive2, ioDrive2 Duo, and ioDrive2 Blade Mezzanine solutions can help accelerate your application Cards. These PCIe NAND flash devices fit in a server PCIe slot. The server’s CPU recognizes performance. these accelerators as memory; the operating system sees the accelerators as traditional block storage. While these accelerators utilize and extract performance from common flash memory, they are software-enhanced to deliver enterprise-class quality, endurance, and reliability. Much more than a typical accelerator, HP IO Accelerator storage memory is unique and durable because of its ioMemory technology-based cut-through architecture. As a non-volatile device, HP IO Accelerator memory can store data even during power outages. In addition, these accelerators support very high IOPS—enabling them to deliver a data transaction rate that is orders of magnitude faster than the millisecond rate of most hard disk drives. HP IO Accelerators incorporate all the advantages of flash memory—while also overcoming many of its limitations—to deliver incredible storage reliability, performance, and cost-efficiency. In fact, one or more HP IO Accelerators per server can provide the same storage performance as multiple disk spindles. • You can deploy these accelerators with external storage to create a read cache. • You can also deploy them without external storage to host an entire data set within an HP ProLiant server. • When used in virtualized environments, these accelerators can help increase the number and size of virtual machines (VMs) per server and associated VM performance density. Key features and benefits HP ioDrive2 Accelerators and HP ioDrive2 Duo Accelerators • Superior application performance with better latency—HP IO Accelerators integrate directly via the server PCIe bus—along with the CPU and memory—bypassing traditional storage controllers and unlocking trapped compute cycles. Better average latency for read and write access as low as 110 microseconds and 30 microseconds, respectively. Additional benefits include reduced time for data center maintenance tasks such as backups, recoveries, and batch jobs. • Improved endurance—HP IO Accelerators offer features such as wear leveling, predictive monitoring and management, and warranty forecasting. These features help extend the service life of NAND flash devices, keep track of potential issues, and provide timely information on warranty. • Enhanced reliability—You can protect data against loss with Adaptive Flashback Protection technology, built-in on-card redundancy, and added layers of protection against NAND failure within the media. The result—reduced downtime due to multi-chip failures, as well as enhanced data protection. • Accelerated index-optimization—By moving specific components of the database—such as indexes, frequently accessed tables, or transaction logs—to the HP IO Accelerator, you benefit from faster, easier data access and search. 2
Family data sheet | HP PCIe IO Accelerators HP ioDrive2 Blade Mezzanine Cards • Improved performance—HP IO Accelerators for BladeSystem c-Class Gen8 server blades provide optimal performance and better average write access latency as low as 60 microseconds. More specifically, the maximum sustainable random read performance for the 1,205 GB mezzanine card is 130,000 IOPS using a 4 Kb transfer size. This level of support makes the ioDrive2 Blade Mezzanine Card the ideal solution for environments with high I/O requirements. High throughput speeds greatly enhance performance for I/O-intensive applications running in HP BladeSystem environments. • Reduced power consumption—The HP ioDrive2 Blade Mezzanine Card uses NAND flash memory. The card can quickly shift to very low power modes, and then return to full performance, without the delays of traditional spinning disks. This feature enables the card to deliver high performance levels, while also reducing power consumption and rack space. • Enhanced business-critical applications—The HP ioDrive2 Blade Mezzanine Card facilitates faster application performance through ultra-low latency data access. In data-intensive applications where access to data is critical, this accelerator can enable faster business decisions, and consequently, a more responsive enterprise. How are HP IO Accelerators different? Offering cost-effective, innovative options for accelerating application performance • High-performance, high-capacity, in-server memory tier—HP IO Accelerators approach RAM-like performance with disk-like capacity. These accelerators enable terabytes of data to be processed within the server, close to the CPUs where the data is needed. Deploying the accelerators directly within the server enables microsecond data access—resulting in extreme application performance. • Advanced technology—HP IO Accelerators are based on ioMemory technology from Fusion- io. With a unique Virtual Storage Layer and cut-through architecture, HP IO Accelerators help ensure enterprise-class service. • Greater endurance and reliability—Features such as wear leveling, predictive monitoring and management, and warranty forecasting enable enterprise endurance. The unique adaptive flashback technology supports on-card redundancy with no downtime on multi-chip failures, while also protecting data. • Qualified options—After successfully passing rigorous qualification processes for a broad set of HP ProLiant servers, HP IO Accelerators are considered HP-qualified options for the full line of HP ProLiant servers. The HP ioDrive2 Accelerator and the HP ioDrive2 Duo Accelerators are qualified for HP ProLiant DL, ML, and SL servers; the HP ioDrive2 Blade Mezzanine Cards are qualified for HP ProLiant Gen8 server blades (BL servers). • Unique device architecture—HP IO Accelerators are also part of HP ProActive Insight Architecture—a cohesive collection of innovative technologies focused on enhancing performance and uptime, with the least amount of effort. Available with HP ProLiant Gen8 servers, HP ProActive Insight Architecture offers strategic advantages including dynamic workload acceleration, integrated lifecycle automation, automated energy optimization, and proactive service and support. 3
