This week, I have been reading a range of mystery books. I’ve enjoyed trying to guess the solution before the end of the book especially when I have had to change my ideas as the plot develops. These books have kept me hooked and interested start to finish. • Don’t forget you have the CGP and the Abacus text books if you are looking for more work to do. This is an optional activity that you can do with your family at any time this week. We’d love to see pictures of what you do. Make some music. Create your own instrument or use an instrument you already have to make some music. Lots of you will have your recorders from Year 3 or you can make instruments from cans, bottles, straws, pasta/rice/dried beans and other everyday objects. The greatest and bravest of all princes – Beowulf he was called – decided this evil beast of the night must be punished for his wrongdoing. Draw a picture of an Anglo-Saxon warrior (Beowulf). If it is easier, you Anglo- can print out the map of Britain on the next page. Saxons What facts can you find about the Seven Kingdoms? Did each Kingdom have the same king or different ones?
Thursday Daily Practise these words from the Year 3/Year 4 spelling list. Write out each word three times and then put it into a sentence. Task 2 - Rounding and estimating money. You need to be able to work out what the closest pound to an amount of money is. E.g. £6.74 is between £6 and £7. It’s closer to £7. Maths Fluency question RPS challenge: Use the website links we gave you yesterday to spend some time completing money activities online. Task 3 – Switches A circuit must be complete for the electricity to flow. If there is no power source (like a Science - cell or battery), then the bulb won't light up. If there is a break in the circuit, then the electricity electricity will not flow and the bulb won't work. One way that you can break a circuit is to put a switch in. English By around 410AD, the last of the Romans had left Britain to go back to Rome and England was left to look after itself for the first time in about 400 years. Emperor Honorius told the people to fight the Picts, Scots and Saxons who were attacking them, but the Brits were not good fighters. The Scots, who came from Ireland, invaded and took land in Scotland. The Scots split Scotland into 4 separate places that were named Dal Riata, Pictland, Strathclyde and Bernicia. The Picts (the people already living in Scotland) and the Scots were always trying to get into England. It was hard for the people in England to fight them off without help from the Romans. The Picts and Scots are said to have jumped over Hadrian’s Wall, killing everyone in their way. 1. When did the last Romans leave Britain? 2. What group of people were attacking England at this time? 3. Where did the Scots come from? 4. Who were the Picts? 5. What did the Picts and Scots do as they jumped over Hadrian’s wall? Task 2 - Maths Task 3 Today, the 8th May, is the 75th anniversary of VE day. We’d like you to research what VE day was and how people – celebrated. You might find these websites helpful.
