ADMINISTRATIVE MESSAGE

Dear IIS Community,

Despite being a relatively short month, February has proven to be jam packed
with many memorable happenings at the Italian International School. Earlier
this month, we issued our first set of report cards, and we are ever so proud of
our students and their results. Additionally, we held our Italian Food Festival
and had our very first Grade 5 PYP Exhibition. Our grade 5 students did an
amazing job showcasing their learning in the PYP transdisciplinary unit, ‘How
We Express Ourselves’.

March is approaching quickly with us commencing the month with our ‘House
Day / Sports Day’. All of our students, including the newest PreK students will
compete with their house teams in several activities / games. We look forward
to sharing the excitement with you all. More information will follow.

Further ahead, Ramadan will arrive at the end of March. We will be contacting
our parents for your input regarding our operating times during Ramadan.

A very important request of all parents/nannies/drivers: Please use the drop-off
kiss and ride shoulder in front of the school when dropping off your children in
the morning time. IT IS NOT SAFE to drop your child off on the main road. I
have spoken to a few parents in this regard to let them know, this is not safe
practice and the practice will not continue at the school. Many thanks for your
ongoing support and cooperation.

Sincerely,

Janet DesJardins
Principal

ELL ENGLISH LANGUAGE LEARNERS
Buddy Reading is a program organized by
   the English Language Learner (ELL)
department and led by Ms. Melanie. The
   program encourages students to read
together and learn from one another while

over the campus participated in this
   program, with teachers supporting and
   encouraging them.

   Buddy Reading helps students build
confidence in their reading skills and

TEACHING AND LEARNING

                                                ARABIC DEPARTMENT
We have activated the I Read Arabic” and
“I Start Arabic” platforms for our dear
students, as we believe in the importance
of reading and also the star of the week for
our outstanding students.

Grades from kindergarten to grade 1,
students continue to learn Arabic
Alphabetic letters with various activities
that help and support them. In Grade 5,
students studied about the countries of the
Cooperation Council and presented
projects and presented them to their fellow
students. In Grade 3, students read their
stories in front of the class. Students study
grammatical methods (interrogative style
and exclamation style) and learn how to
activate them in their daily lives while
practicing the Arabic language.

TEACHING AND LEARNING

MUSIC DEPARTMENT

In the music department, students learned various musical skills such as playing
different percussion instruments, singing, and composing music. They were taught
how to read music sheets and understand different music genres. In addition,
students learned about music's cultural and historical significance in different
societies. Through music, students developed creativity, critical thinking, and
teamwork skills.
TEACHING AND LEARNING

KG DEPARTMENT

In KG1, the children had an exciting opportunity to explore different ingredients and
observe how they react when mixed together. The students used salt, corn flour, and
foam to create their own unique mixtures. They were encouraged to describe the
sensory experience, such as how the mixture felt, smelled, and changed when mixed
together.

This hands-on activity helped the students develop their creativity, scientific thinking,
and language skills. This fun and interactive experience will hopefully spark the
students' curiosity and interest in science for years to come!
