Heirs and Graces Day Nursery Brochure “Our goal is to ensure a safe, nurturing and learning environment to suit the individual needs of each child in our care” Holly Jones, Co-Owner 1/15
A Personal Welcome Welcome to Heirs and Graces, a family run nursery. “Children have always been a big part of my lif e – looking af ter my own and other peopl e’s and working in both nursery and pre -school settings. It was a great pleasure to me when my daughter Holly decided that childcare was what she wan t ed to do for a career. Holly and I decided that what we wanted was to run a top quality day nurser y. My gr andsons Dani el, Oscar and Charlie were with us at nursery until they st arted school and my younger grand children Jack , Sam, Isaac and Penny are now with us. We believe that your children are your most precious possessions and we want to care for t hem in a pl easant, homel y atmosphere, w here every child f eels happy and secure and so will grow socially, educationall y and physicall y. We look forward to meeting you and your family.” Mrs Holly Jones – NNEB Co-Owner Mrs Lesley Baker – BA Hons Co-Owner 2/15

Our Staff All staff are given an enhanced p olice check whi ch is undert aken by the management team to ensure the s afety and well being of all children in the nursery. All st aff are on a three mont h probationary cont ract to ensure their suitabili ty to the nursery . We do not choose new staff lightly. We ensure t hat we check their references, backgrounds and health history. We are gl ad that the staff bring their di fferent skills, experi ence and backgrounds to the nursery , and we have many st aff that are parents themselves and understand the j oys and frustrations that com e with parenthood. We feel very lucky to have a good staff t eam, m ost of whom are qualified or undergoing t raini ng whilst with us. We realise that st aff ret ention can be an important issue to prospective parents; therefore we try very hard to ret ain all of our st aff by offeri ng a programme of cont inu ous training t o update and ext en d thei r qualifi cations , and help them to reach t heir personal goals. We st rongly beli eve that al ert, fun and conte nt carers benefit your children and insi st t hat staff have their one hour lunch break away from the children in the st aff room whi ch has a separat e entrance/ exit allowing t hem to have a compl et e break, and come back refreshed and re-energised, we have several l adies who come in and help us look after the children at lunchtime. They are also police checked. Mrs Holly Jones Co-owner Holly has a Norland Diploma in Childcare and Education and an NNEB qualification with 12 years experience in childcare with all ages and in various settings such as Social Services, Montessori, Day -care and nannying. Our Baby room At Heirs and Graces, we offer a baby room that caters for up to six babies at one time. We provide one st aff member t o every three babies. In this room, the st aff creat e a loving, safe and secure atmosphere in whi ch the babies are encouraged to achieve their own pot ential . We t ake great effort to hire st aff who are soft, gentle and calm with the babi es. Worki ng cl osely wit h parents, the babi es are helped to settle into a familiar hom e routine, adapt ed to suit the nursery environment . Leaving your baby i n childcare can be a diffi cult time for bot h you and your baby and it is i mportant that y ou l et us know if there is any way we can help you bot h feel settled and calm. We are happy for you to bring any bedtime t oys or special blankets t hat you feel will help settle your baby. We do ask that you l abel t hem and that they are not precious to yo u, as from tim e to tim e things may get lost. When settling into t he Nursery , we advise that t he baby’s usual carer spends tim e with them in the room each day, gradual ly increasing the time that t hey are l eft. We have a separat e sleep area for the babies. Monitored at al l times through a gl ass panel and hand held sound/tv monitor, the babies are able t o sleep peacefully and safely i n a darkened room . There is cctv in bot h of the Baby Rooms Tiny Mites com e to t he Nursery every ot her week to provi de a mus ic and movement sessi on for all age groups . 5/15
The 1-2 year olds We feel that children of this age need more room to roam, toddle and crawl about to explore their surroundings, but at the same time they are not quite ready for the more energetic older chi ldren. With a ratio of one staff member t o every three children, thi s is a l arge playroom where pl ay is a littl e more st ructured than the baby room . There is a m essy room in which the children will be abl e to play with sand, wat er, play -doh, paint and even spaghetti !! The children have access t o soft play equipment where the children are able t o climb , and pl ay in the ball pit and with the sensory equipment. The garden has a pl ay area, whi ch is covered by a UV tint ed glass roof and is equipped with a climbi ng fram e on a child friendly surface. Here the children are encouraged t o develop t heir soci al skills and their motor skills and muscles on the bikes and trikes . The st aff we choose to work with this very exciting age range are fun, lively and ent husi ast ic. 6/15
The 2-3 year olds It is so much fun to be a carefree toddler and we enjoy encouraging our young ones to explore their world. We have a ratio of one staff member t o every four children in this room. At Hei rs and Graces there is a daily routi ne that is adapt ed to outside influences, such as t he weat her, speci al cel ebrations, cultural activiti es and their own envi ronment. The children are encouraged t o try sensory play, st ructured play and educational pl ay to help l earn about the world around them. We encourage the children t o play outside in the garden where there are toys designed for each age range. Because we feel acti vities shoul d be fun as well as educational, we pl an topics or th emes that can be linked to the s easons, fes tivals or cultures. Inside we have a cosy corner fill ed with books and comfy places to sit, read and rel ax and discover the joy and excitem ent books can offer. There is cctv in bot h rooms. 7/15
The Pre School Group Our programme for this age group is designed to help the children achieve the skills that they will need when they start school. The revised Early Years Foundation Stage 2017 ensures the children are ready for this . We encourage interactive group play, act ivities, and 'home corner' time, which can be linked to the week’s special theme or topic. The requi red ratio is one staff m ember to every eight children . We use the ‘time out’ method of disci pline, which i s effective in a large group of children , and gives the children an opport unity to t hink for themselves. The daily routine of this room offers indoor and out door play, group time, messy play, sand, water, art, and m usic and l earning act ivities. We also have a yoga session every Tuesday whi ch is included in our fees. In the spri ng/summer months we have an optional foot ball session with Sports Fever for a sm all additional charge. The reading corner will be used as a pl ace where a child can go when they need to calm down. Pre-school chil dren also help to grow veget abl es in the nursery gard en. In this room, the chi ldren l earn t he importance of respect for other children, adults and their surroundings. We feel that t his helps them to become more open to accept a wide di versity of people in the world. 8/15
Mealtimes Most children eat i n our dining room, wit h their own age group at separat e tim es. Staff members sit and eat with the older chil dren in small groups, to teach them t able manners and encourage soci al interaction. This, we know from school, can be the hardest thing for new pupils to adjust to. Children are encouraged to t ry our vari ed m enu to experience different tastes and t extures of foods. All of our food is freshly m ade each day, on our premises by our cook . We use fresh m eat and lots of fresh fruit and vegetabl es, org anic where possible. Worki ng cl osely wit h parents, we offer a vegetarian alternati ve and we are als o abl e to cater for children with al lergi es and religious dietary requi rem ents. In the baby room , as all babies are fed di ffering formulas and amounts of milk, it is safest for parents to bring i n the milk feeds wit h clear instructions for the day. These will be stored i n the fridge until needed. Whilst your child is being weaned, we ask that you bri ng in t heir food. When fully weaned, we are then happ y to blend and chop our nursery food for t hem Pleas e look at our enclosed sample men u! 9/15
