Costa Blanca North Guide Alcalali Alcalalí is a Valencian municipality in the comarca of Marina Alta, province of Alicante, Spain. It is situated in the Pop Valley (Vall de Pop) between the Serra del Ferrer and the mounts of Segili. It is bordered by Pedreguer and Benidoleig to the north, Jalón and Llíber to the east; Orba, Murla, Benigembla and Parcent to the west and Tàrbena to the south. Costa Blanca North Guide Altea Altea in Spain is considered one of the most beautiful Spanish cities. Nice beaches and promenade, whitewashed houses with flower pots, narrow cobbled streets, small arts and crafts shops, ice cream parlors and outdoor restaurants are just some of what Altea is offering. Altea is a ten minute drive north of Benidorm (about 10 km), about 1 hour from Alicante along the N-332 and is one of the most memorable coastal towns on the Costa Blanca, retaining its own unique Spanish charm despite its growing tourism and popularity. Altea is located right on the sea in the middle of a beautiful bay and is surrounded by hilly mountains. The name comes from the Moorish ‘Althaya’ which means ‘health for all’. Page 5
Costa Blanca North Guide Benidoleig Benidoleig is located in the Girona Valley of the Marina Alta area in Spain’s Costa Blanca. Among the various amenities within the village is a junior/infant school, nursery school (local authority run), medical centre, post office, supermarket, tobacconist/newsagents, hardware store, curtain shop, hairdresser, estate agent/sign shop, printers, bank, pharmacy and various Spanish bars. The village is also well catered with a Spanish restaurant (La Lloma) and an International restaurant (El Cid Restaurant & Bar). Costa Blanca North Guide Benissa Benissa is a small town in Spain in the province of Alicante, 275 m above sea level, and one of the oldest towns on the Costa Blanca. The municipality of Benissa has 4 km of coastline linking the towns of Moraira and Calpe. The scenery of the area includes cliff tops, rocky coves, sandy beaches and tiny bays along the Benissa Costa. The territory of Benissa also contains terraced vineyards, mountains and palm trees. Spanish village houses, with doorsteps directly onto the street, internal courtyards and deceptively spacious inside. Costa Blanca North Guide Benilloba Benilloba is a Spanish municipality of the Valencian Community, belonging to the province of Alicante in the county of Cocentaina County. Benilloba is located between the Serreta de Alcoy and the Sierra Serrella. It is the perfect place for hiking or caving, since in the municipality of Benilloba there is the Aitana peak, which with 1558 meters is the highest in Alicante. Other interesting natural places are those of Salto, La Cruceta or the Frainós river ponds, which passes by the town. Costa Blanca North Guide Benitachell Benitachell is a tranquil and picturesque village, originally an Arab outpost, with a stunning coastline nearby, which is formed by a succession of cliffs of more than a 100m high that descend vertically into the sea. Located towards the northern end of the Costa Blanca, the village is just off the A-7 Motorway, about an hours drive from Alicante airport. Benitachell is a charming Spanish village between Teulada and Javea, Although just five minutes drive to the beach at either Moraira or Javea, it provides the best of both worlds for those wanting a more peaceful holiday. Costa Blanca North Guide Denia Dénia is a historical coastal city in the province of Alicante, Spain, on the Costa Blanca halfway between Alicante and Valencia, and the capital and judicial seat of the comarca of Marina Alta. Denia’s historical heritage has been influenced by Iberian, Greek, Roman, Islamic, Napoleonic and Christian civilizations. As of 2014, it had a population of 41,672, although this is more than doubled by tourism during the summer months. Denia enjoys almost twenty kilometres of coastline. Costa Blanca North Guide El Vergel El Vergel is a town of 4,992 inhabitants situated 3 kilometres from the Mediterranean sea and 8 kilometres from Dénia, in the Comarca of Marina Alta, Land of Valencia, Spain. The main attractions are the Main Street, two medieval towers, a neoclassical church and a safari park. The town’s crest, recently resuscitated, pays homage to its name: it displays two trees and four flowers. The municipal boundaries confront those of Beniarbeig, Benimeli, Murla, Dénia, Ondara and Els Poblets. Costa Blanca North Guide nestrat Finestrat is situated 12 kilometres from Benidorm and 55 kilometres from Alicante International Airport. Accessed by road via the motorway AP-7 and exit 65-A, from where a local road connects to the town. Finestrat can also be accessed directly from the N- 332. The old town is located inland but there is also about 267 metres of coast from Punta del Tossal to Cala de Finestrat. Finestrat is a beautiful coastal town that is also mountainous. Costa Blanca North Guide Gata de Gorgos Gata de Gorgos is a village in the Marina Alta region of the north Costa Blanca in Spain. In 2005 it had a population of 5,325. The village is known for its wicker industry and for having an unusually large number of bars and restaurants per capita. Boasting over 30 bars, the most popular are Ca Corder, which is located in the church square, and Ca Patrics, which is located in the Placa Nuevo. The town’s key fiestas take place during July to honour The Christ of the Calvary.(Fiestas en honor al Santísimo Cristo del Calvario). A key part of this event includes bull running along the street known as Paseo de Alicante – another is when the town’s young men and women who are ‘coming of age’ form groups called ‘Quintos’ and march through the town accompanied by music and watched by family and friends. Costa Blanca North Guide La Nucia La Nucia is a municipality in the comarca of Marina Baixa, Alicante, Valencian Community, Spain. It borders the municipalities of Altea, Callosa d’En Sarrià, Benidorm, Polop and L’Alfàs del Pi. La Nucia is located in a fruit valley between Benidorm and Callosa d’En Sarrià, 3 km from the coast of Altea. The urban center is on a promontory overlooking the Mediterranean Sea, 51 km north of Alicante and 8 km north of Benidorm. Costa Blanca North Moraira Moraira is a small, upmarket Spanish coastal town, part of Teulada (also known as Teulada-Moraira) municipality, in the Marina Alta comarca, 80 km north of Alicante and 100 km south of Valencia. The town is located adjacent to the neighbouring village of El Portet and both communities form a tourist resort on the Costa Blanca strip, with 8 km of coastline backed by mountains and vineyards. Moraira is a small and very nice town with natural beaches, coves, rocky and sandy beaches; an old fishing village that has developed in the recent years, especially in the summer months as a popular touristic destination, but preserving its originality. Costa Blanca North Guide Orba Orba is a small town and municipality in the comarca of Marina Alta in the Valencian Community, Spain. It is situated in the River Gerona valley and is bordered by Pego to the north; Benidoleig and Ondara to the north- east; Jalón and Pedreguer to the east and Parcent and Alcalali to the south. Orba is a popular place to live with expats who have preferred a quieter way of life less than twenty minutes away from the sea side resorts of Javea and Denia. Costa Blanca North Guide Parcent Parcent is a village in the Pop Valley of La Marina Alta in the Alicante Province, which is located in the Valencian region of Spain. Parcent has a population of about 1100 and is about one hour’s drive north of the city of Alicante, and about an hour’s drive south of the city of Valencia. It features the small Holy Virgin church, and is surrounded by hills and mountains. Writer Gabriel Miró (1879-1930) was a resident of Parcent and called it a “paradise between the mountains”. It is also close to Jalón (written as Xaló in Catalan), which is known for its wine production and markets. Costa Blanca North Guide Pedreguer Pedreguer is a town in the comarca of Marina Alta in the province of Alicante, Spain. The town is situated at the foot of the Muntanya Gran and close to the two larger coastal towns of Dénia and Xàbia. It has a population of 7097 (as of 2008). It is also close to the Jalon Valley which is famous for its springtime almond tree blossom. While Pedreguer does not have any world famous sights nor is it on the coast, it is a pretty and scenic base from which to enjoy a great holiday on the Costa Blanca with many great tourist attractions nearby. Pedreguer Rastro is a sort of flea market in the town. Sunday morning is flea market day. Costa Blanca North Guide Polop Polop de la Marina or briefly Polop, is a municipality in the comarca of Marina Baixa, Alicante, Valencian Community, Spain. The village of Polop is located inland in the Costa Blanca North in an area known as the Marina Alta. The local economy is based mainly on agriculture, so much of the surrounding countryside is covered in polythene to act as giant greenhouses. The village is a delight to explore and perfect for a morning or afternoon amble. The hill, where the old castle used to be is encircled by a medieval wall, and is a ‘must’ to walk up. Follow the zig zag path and you’ll be well rewarded with some fabulous views. On a clear day you can see right to Albir and Altea on the coast and inland to Callosa and the Sierra Bernia. Costa Blanca North Guide Teulada Teulada is a small coastal town on Spain’s Costa Blanca, located 3 km north from Junction 63 of the A7 E-15 toll motorway on the N-332 coast road. Teulada’s historic quarter, in the interior of the province of Alicante, is surrounded by a green landscape filled with vineyards, a crop that reflects the agricultural tradition of this municipality, and is part of its identity. Surrounded by a wall in the old times, Teulada’s city centre is dominated by the church of Santa Catalina, a very beautiful example of Flamboyant Gothic architecture, erected to honour the patron saint. Costa Blanca North Guide llajoyosa Villajoyosa is especially known for its chocolate. Valor, considered one of Spain’s best chocolate brands are produced here. As the rest of the coast, tourism is also an important source of income. One of the most popular tourist attractions is the Gothic Roman Catholic church with a Baroque altarpiece.
