GS - I
HAMPI:
   The name "Hampi" comes from the anglicized version of the
    Kannada Hampe (derived from Pampa, the ancient name for the
    Tungabhadra river).
   Hampi, located within the ruins of Vijayanagara, served as the capital
    of the Vijayanagara Empire.
   Hampi also goes by the name "The City of Ruins."
   UNESCO has designated the Vijayanagara ruins as a World Heritage
    Site within the Group of Monuments at Hampi title since 1986.
   Hampi is situated on the southern bank of the river Tungabhadra in
    Karnataka. Kishkindha Kand in Ramayana has special significance
    concerning Hampi.
   Architecture:
           Most of the structures at Hampi are constructed from local
             granite, burnt bricks and lime mortar.
           Vijayanagara architecture is also known for its adoption of
             elements of Indo Islamic Architecture (like the Queen’s Bath
             and the Elephant Stables).
           Dravidian architecture survives in the rest of Southern India
             spread through the patronage of the Vijayanagara rulers.

          Temples of this city are noted for their large dimensions,
          florid ornamentation, bold and delicate carvings, stately
          pillars, magnificent pavilions and a great wealth of
          iconographic and traditional depictions which include
          subjects from the Ramayana and the Mahabharata.
        The Vitthala temple is an excellent example of Vijayanagara
          style. The monolithic statues of Lakshmi, Narasimha and
          Ganesa are noted for their massiveness and grace.

                   temple. Many believe that he commissioned the most

Vittala Temple :

Vittala Temple

      The renowned Vittala Temple dates back to the 15th century. It was
       built during the reign of King Devaraya II. Several portions of the
       temple were expanded and enhanced during the reign
       of Krishnadevaraya (1509 – 1529 A.D.)
      The Vittala Temple is also known as Shri Vijaya Vitthala Temple. It
       is dedicated to Lord Vitthala, an incarnation of Lord Vishnu.
      The Vittala temple is built in the Dravidian style of architecture.
      It has traits and features that are characteristic of typical south
       Indian temple architecture.

Stone Chariot :
      The Stone Chariot or Ratha stands in the courtyard of Vittala
       temple.
      It is one of the three famous stone chariots in India. The other
       two chariots are situated in Konark (Odissa) and
       Mahabalipuram (Tamil Nadu).
The Musical Pillars of the Ranga Mantapa:
   The Ranga Mantapa is one of the main attractions of the Vittala
    Temple. The large mantapa is renowned for its 56 musical pillars.
   These musical pillars are also known as SAREGAMA pillars.

KISAN SAMMAN NIDHI:
    The Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi will provide assured
     income to small and marginal farmers.
    Under the Scheme, all Small and Marginal Farmers (SMF) with
     combined land holding or ownership of up to 2 hectares of cultivable
     land will be provided with income support of Rs 6000 per year.
    The amount will be transferred directly into their account in 3 equal
     installments of Rs 2000 each. The Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) will
     ensure transparency in the entire process.
    The complete expenditure of Rs 75000 crore for the scheme will
     borne by the Union Government in 2019-20.
   Over 12 crore farmer families will be benefitted under the scheme.
   The scheme is being implemented with effect from December 2018.
Objective:
The PM-KISAN scheme aims to supplement the financial needs of the
SMFs in procuring various inputs to ensure proper crop health and
appropriate yields. This would also protect them from falling in the clutches
of moneylenders for meeting expenses and ensure their continuance in the
farming activities.
Why in News?
Centre has revised the farmer income support scheme’s beneficiary target
down to just under 12 crore from 14 crore. Centre urges West Bengal to join
scheme.
GS - III
MAHADAYI PROJECT :
    Mahadayi river originates from a cluster of 30 springs at Bhimgad in
     the Western Ghats in the Belgaum district of Karnataka. Then it
     enters Goa and finally drains in Arabian sea.
    Kalasa and Banduri are tributaries of Mahadayi.

About Kalasa and Banduri:
   The project involves diverting water from Mahadayi river, the lifeline
    of Goa, into the Malaprabha river.
   The Kalasa Banduri project is aimed at providing drinking water to
    three important districts of north Karnataka — Belagavi, Gadag and
    Dharwad — which go parched in summer due to acute water scarcity.
   Kalasa and Banduri project originally proposed to transfer 3.56 tmcft
    and 4 tmcft , to the Malaprabha.
   Received administrative approval on Aug 22,2000 from Karnataka
    government.
   Following opposition from Goa , the Union Water Resources Ministry
    withheld approval in sep 2002.
   Cost of Kalasa-Banduri project estimated to be Rs.44.78cr and 49.2cr
    in 2000.
   Revised to Rs 840cr in 2013.
   Current estimate puts the cost of Kalasa-Banduri project at Rs
    885.8cr and 791.50cr, totaling to Rs 1,677.3cr.
   In 2018,the Mahadayi Water Disputes Tribunal awarded 1.72 tmcft
    and 2.18 tmcft to Kalasa and Banduri projects.
   Tribunal awarded 24 tmcft,13.42 tmcft and 1.3 tmcft to
    Goa,Karnataka and Maharastra.

Why in News?
   Mahadayi project cost skyrockets by 1,674% since inception.
    Application to release 258 hectares of reserve forest area for the
    Kalasa project that falls under the reservoir’s catchment area is
    pending before MoEF.

Why in News?
Reasons:
   The concentration of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere going up,
    resulting in more water vapor, rainfall is expected to increase in the
    next 100 years.
   One of the major reasons for the variation in monsoon is the increase
    in water vapor due to increase in temperature. In the next 100 years,
    the water vapor is also likely to increase, which will result in increase
    in rainfall.

AYUSHMAN BHARAT YOJNA:
   Ayushman Bharat Yojana or PMJAY provides free treatment upto Rs
    5 lacs per year to approx.50 cr poor people of the country. Ayushman
    Bharat Yojana was launched in Ranchi (Jharkhand) on 23 September,
    2018 by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

   Ayushman Bharat Yojna is being run by the Ministry of Health and
    Family Welfare.
