growing gracefully Foss Home and Village Spring 2021 Thank You! It’s true, heroes do work at Foss. But some of our superpower energy comes from you; 1 the families, volunteers and donors that support our efforts. You have always made us feel that ‘we aren’t in this alone’. Over this past year, there were so many displays of compassion and support for Foss residents, and staff, and we thank you. There were deliveries of flowers, cookies and cards. The Northwest Junior Pipe Band entertained the residents from the parking lot and Shannon and Dylan McMaster’s Camp Fire group stuffed resident stockings for Christmas. We had mouth coverings and masks made for our residents. There was a supply of lap blankets and teddy bears donated. And then, there were the Foss neighbors and family members who decorated the trees on 130th and 1st Ave NW. These decorations were enjoyed by the Foss residents throughout the holiday season. All year long, when we needed your support, you were there. When we needed PPE, you were there. When we reached out with an opportunity to thank our staff with the Employee Relief fund, you were there. Your support, and kind gestures, remind the staff their selflessness does not go unnoticed. It is with heartfelt appreciation that we thank you. Thank you for making a difference in the lives of our Foss residents and staff. As a family member, great care was given to my mother-in-law in memory care. Thank you ...I want you to know how much you are appreciated and how reassuring it was to know that someone you couldn’t care for was safe and being well cared for. “You’ll slide right into Heaven.” ...Thank you for the wonderful care you are giving my mother. Rhododendron planted when Foss moved ...All of us witnessed the genuine, professional and the compassionate to attention that was consistent throughout the Foss community. current location. ....I can’t express enough how much my dad and his family appreciated the quality of care and attention the staff at Foss gave him - and my mom - during their stays. You are all heroes for sure!

As I think about the enormous challenges of the past year, it is hard to find words that express my immense gratitude for the Foss staff, residents and families. We know that it takes a village to love, care for and support those in need. At Foss, we are especially blessed because our village has a cornerstone of unsung heroes working tirelessly behind the scenes, the Foss Board of Directors. These dedicated people from all walks of life volunteer their time because of their profound commitment to servant leadership. Thank You Foss Board, for guiding us, inspiring us and transforming us with your unwavering compassion and faithful stewardship. Rick Henry President & CEO A thought from Julie Yari, Foss Board Chair “As we head into 2021, I want to share my deep appreciation for the staff at Foss. 2020 could have been catastrophic but-for the love, care and dedication of the staff to keep all of our residents and each other safe. The Foss Community is a strong one because of the kind words shared, the smiles for connection, and the gentle human touch to say – we will get through this together. A virtual warm hug to you all.” Board of Directors Chairperson Treasurer Members Ex-Officio Julie Yari Kris Chick Lynne Dasher President Bev Roach Rick Henry Vice Chair Secretary Judy Wildes Jeff West Larraine King Thank you Ottersen’s Pharmacy One of the unique features at Foss, is the in-house pharmacy which has been located in Foss since 1978. In addition to all the benefits a full service pharmacy provides for Foss residents, Ottersen’s has been giving flu shots to Foss staff for years. When the COVID vaccines were becoming available, Sonya Kousoun, Ottersen’s pharmacist, along with co-owner Kobe Minnich, wanted to be part of that process. In early January, Ottersen’s received the vaccine and started vaccinating the Foss staff. Many Foss residents received their COVID vaccine through Ottersen’s as well. Sonya has also been able to reach beyond the walls of Foss and provide the vaccine to family members of the Foss community, seniors and staff at other local senior living communities and a group of local nuns. While Sonya was administering the shots, Kobe was answering the phone, scheduling appointments and keeping everything running smoothly. Kobe says, “I am so proud to be a part of this process, to be able to be a part of history and help my fellow man. I am beyond proud of Sonya, she has really made a difference.” Sonya said, “It’s very hard to say “no” due to not having enough vaccines and being a very small pharmacy when you want to help others as much as possible. But it’s very rewarding to do our part to stop the spread of COVID and everyone is very appreciative and supportive.” 4
