MY VIEW HEAD GIRL - ZARA OVERTON I’m Zara Overton and I hold the position of Head Girl at Gosforth Academy. The subjects I take are History, English Literature and Textiles. Each department has provided outstanding teaching, with subject specialists willing and able to provide targeted guidance to all students. With this support, I have received five offers to pursue my goal of studying History at university. A significant feature of Gosforth Academy is the effort put into the progression of students at the Sixth Form. No matter what path you decide to take, the non-teaching Personal Tutors and specialised Progression Manager will provide you with opportunities that assist your learning and increase your prospects. The school encourages applications to fantastic extra-curricular visits such as World Challenge, which took students to Belize last year, and the Duke of Edinburgh award, allowing you to build character outside of a leaning environment. Some of the fantastic opportunities presented to me have included seeing the Speaker of the House of Commons, and attending academic seminars which have assisted me in my university application. Synonymous with a focus on personal academic achievement, the students at Gosforth Academy have the opportunity to develop the Sixth Form themselves, through the Student Union. My role as Head Girl allows me to take student led suggestions and work with the other members of the union to make them a reality. The achievements of the union this year have already exceeded expectation, with successful charity events raising money for breast cancer awareness and promoting donations for the Newcastle West End food bank in the weeks leading up to Christmas. As well as this, we are in the process of publishing the Sixth Form’s first ever online Magazine, and developing a Charter to assist future members of the Student Union. The Sixth Form here provides exceptional support for students to achieve, both academically and personally. It is clear that this school values its students and I am very fortunate to have studied here. Making the right decision for your future is paramount and I hope that you choose Gosforth Academy Sixth Form. Gosforth Academy Sixth Form | Prospectus Page 12
