SVC2UK | Good Growth Summit WELCOME I am delighted to welcome you all to St. James’s Palace for the Good Growth Summit in partnership with Pitch@Palace. I would like to congratulate all the Founders and CEOs, at whatever stage you might be on your start up or scale up journey. It is particularly encouraging to see so many female entrepreneurs driving UK commerce forward. From my own business experience, I do not underestimate the courage and conviction required to succeed and offer my support as we collectively work to create a more gender balanced environment for innovation. I would like to especially welcome our guests from Silicon Valley who are here to share their experiences and to forge new relationships with our incredible talent in the UK. Having worked in both New York and London, I appreciate the importance of strong networks and role models and I encourage all of you to make the most of this opportunity. I hope you find the afternoon insightful and you make some useful new connections to help power your businesses forward. HRH Princess Beatrice 2
WHAT IS GOOD GROWTH? Growth is ultimately a means of survival and advancement. By dictionary definition; growth is the process of increasing in amount, value or importance and/or developing physically, mentally or spiritually. How to define good growth? When we crowd-sourced your opinion, good growth overwhelmingly represents growth that sustains us both economically and emotionally: • ‘Sustainable growth in every sense of the world - economic, human, environmental...’ • ‘Financially viable, scalable growth’ • ‘Growth oriented for long term success’ • ‘Responsible growth with strongly diverse representation.’ Positive impact also features heavily; as a collective we have a strong desire to build with purpose and to contribute to our people and environments: • ‘Having a constructive impact on society while also building a great business’ • ‘Positive consistent growth that combines profit and social good.’ ‘Creating an example of economic growth balanced with good (social impact, responsible tech), not solely pursuing growth at any cost.’ Flexibility and adaptability is another priority you reported, the ability to grow according to market conditions and need: • ‘Taking advantage of a changing environment to adapt and grow, consistent with a core mission’ • ‘Scaling to the needs and demands of market while uptaking technology innovations’ • ‘Having a business that is able to meet a growing customer need.’ Whilst we might each have an individual definition of what good growth means to us, as business leaders we are united in our responsibility and mission to promote long term economic prosperity that benefits us all, equally. To me, good growth is winning... but not at the expense of anyone. 3 Emma Sinclair MBE Co-Founder of EnterpriseAlumni
SVC2UK | Good Growth Summit INTRODUCTION TO SVC2UK We are thrilled to welcome you to St James’s Palace today. When SVC2UK was founded thirteen years ago, we not only wanted to inspire entrepreneurial growth within the UK, we also wanted to fuel and champion diversity within our own ecosystem. Out of this mission, the Good Growth Summit was born. Whether you join us today as a first-time founder, serial entrepreneur or industry leader; we are all united in our passion to advance female entrepreneurship and be the change that will boost the global economy to $5 trillion. As London and Silicon Valley stand at the forefront of the global tech ecosystem, they share as many growth opportunities as challenges when it comes to promoting and empowering diversity and inclusion. Today, we gather to change the narrative around entrepreneurial success as we break down barriers that exist across the ecosystem. The connections you make, the stories you hear and the advice you receive is all designed to fuel your personal and business growth. Together, we will rebalance the gender divide, change the world for the better and become role models that inspire a new generation of entrepreneurs. Today, we reinforce the narrative around good growth as we demonstrate that diversity in entrepreneurship expands our potential both as individuals and as a collective.
