Netball SISS Tournament For the first time in history the Hargest Gold A netball team won B grade in a gripping final. The tone for the Nelson SISS tournament was set after beating SGHS A team for the first time in 20 years. Going into the tournament ranked a lowly 21st, opposition underestimated us. However, our strengths were in our skills and connection on and off the court. Resulting in winning game after game. The Coach Rochelle Van Beek and Manager Sue Yeo were both passionate and dedicated towards the success of our team. For them and many supporters it was very rewarding seeing us demonstrate everything we have been taught. Determination secured the semi final against Waimea ranked 1st. This was convincingly won 30-21. Which then led us to a guaranteed place in A grade for 2020, and the final later that day. Credit to the tough time playing in prem grade this season, we all gained resilience and knew that success was not only in the score, but in the journey. This resilience was paramount in the final as we closely chased Riccarton throughout the game. Key to Gold A, all of us again, lifted one another. The nail biting final quarter was fiercely fought, from five down to our team being 29 all seconds before the final whistle blew. We were tied!! Under a pressure cooker playoff, to win, either team had to be two goals ahead. Patience, tenacity and cool heads enabled us to score those last two goals and win B grade. This was a fitting tribute to farewell our only Year 13 player Kayla Tufui. Winning the grade was the pinnacle of an entire seasons hard work, dedication and strong bonds between us as players, with the coach and management. 9
