My experience at Harrow College is that it is a place where friends become family and a place where you can express yourself in an environment where you can learn. You can achieve more here and everybody is everybody’s friend. We learn from each other and encourage each other and we will succeed together. The ultimate goal is that all students of Harrow College succeed. I am studying science at Harrow College. The teachers make learning easy and they create an atmosphere for students to ask questions and to learn. There are numerous facilities to accommodate students and to promote learning. I particularly like the science labs at College as they give me a glimpse of how university will look which motivates me to study harder. I wanted to become Student Union President because I wanted to be part of a team that supports students in education. I wanted to give back by helping to encourage and empower my fellow students to give them a sense of belonging, that they can reach out to teachers, tutors and even their Student Union President peers to support them, meet new people and build lifetime friends. Student Union I want to help inform and show students that there are opportunities within their reach and that Harrow College can help them achieve anything they might dream of. Business as Usual We did our best to ensure that the lockdown did not affect our students’ education, so we moved lessons online and provided our usual student support remotely, so students could still get the help they needed to succeed. As the first lockdown eased, some students were allowed in with full safety measures in place, to fulfil the practical aspects of their courses and we successfully got them through their assignments. While restrictions and lockdown proved to be difficult, it also kindled a positive community spirit in many and our staff and students got involved in helping others. Since September 2020 we have been fully operational with covid-secure measures in place, as per the government’s guidelines for schools and colleges. This includes compulsory face masks, sanitisers around the College, student bubbles, one-way systems around the campuses and temperature checks at reception. For more details of the measures in place to ensure the safety of our students and staff, please visit our website. Supporting Supporting our Students Through 2020 We Keep Going We follow guidelines from the Department for Education (DfE) and the government to ensure that we continue to provide a seamless education for our students. As we remain on campus we are maintaining and reviewing our security and covid-secure measures with our Students protocols in place. Should we ever need to move fully online again, we are ready for remote delivery of classes and support to ensure our students’ education is not compromised. Through 2020 Harrow College is extremely proud of our Science department who, during the start of lockdown 2020, banded together to donate PPE safety goggles to staff on the front line at Northwick Park Hospital. Science student Aaron Burke, a member of the Harrow College Student Union, came up with an innovative way of raising much needed funds for the NHS by live streaming a 13hr gaming marathon with his friends during last year’s lockdown. Together they raised £100.
