WHAT DOES IT COST TO GO TO UNI? WHO PAYS? Most university students are offered a Commonwealth supported place, which means the majority of the cost is subsidised by the Commonwealth Government and you pay a student contribution. The student contribution amount varies depending on the course you are studying and how much funding the Government provides. If you are an Australian citizen or hold a permanent humanitarian visa, you are eligible to borrow money for your student contribution through the Commonwealth HELP loan scheme (or you can pay all or part of your student contribution up front).
