Wonderful Wednesdays at First Baptist Church, Marietta GA, Spring 2020 Date: Spring 2020 To: Parents From: Rev. Lauren Mills, Dr. Paul Hill, Mrs. Valorie McDonald Re: Wonderful Wednesdays Dear Parents, We are all ready to resume Wonderful Wednesdays for the Spring 2020 semester! We will be continuing our theme, Champions of Faith. Superheroes are woven into our culture today. You can’t go to a movie theater, grocery store, or watch television without seeing an image of the latest superhero. We love superheroes because they fight evil and stand up for a person or group of people that need help. Throughout scripture there are superheroes or champions of our faith, that with God’s help, are able to do some mighty things. We will be learning how we can also be a champion or superhero. This semester we will be returning to our regular weekly schedule where children will first participate in Children’s Worship Arts, then they will head to their Missions Rotation classes. The time frame for the night is still 5:45pm-7:30pm. One thing new you might notice about this year’s calendar is we are bringing back the church-wide service projects. The last three Wednesday nights of the semester (after Spring Break) will be filled with our children, students, and adults participating in hands on mission activities at the church. Be sure to attend these mission nights with your child(ren) as they are family events. This year will mark our 6th annual Children’s Sunday on March 29th. During our 10:58am Worship service all of our Children’s Worship Arts participants will lead us in worship. Children will also lead in other roles greeting people as they enter the sanctuary, passing out bulletins, reading scripture, saying prayers, and giving testimonies. Following the service we will have a lunch in the Fellowship Hall for all families with children as we celebrate the Easter Season. Please make plans to join us for this special day. In this handbook you will find special dates for Wonderful Wednesdays, a list of teachers, and other information. Make sure you check the weekly Children’s Ministry email and our website for details about Wednesday nights and other programs and events. We are excited to partner with you this semester as we seek to help your child grow in their faith, understanding, and knowledge of Christ. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out to one of us. We look forward to seeing you soon. Rev. Our K-2nd grade will be combined this semester, while our 3 rd-5th graders have the opportunity to choose between handbells or interpretive movement. We will be preparing to lead in worship on Sunday, March 29th for Children’s Sunday. Due to the short amount of time to prepare for this worship service, your commitment to consistent, regular attendance is crucial especially for our handbell and interpretive movement groups. Preschoolers will learn how God loves them by experiencing music, movement, and fun each week. Kindergarten – 2nd Grade will explore music as they sing, dance, play instruments, and enjoy musical games and activities. They will expand and deepen their musical experiences as they sing, move, and play new instruments such as Boomwhackers. Children will also learn about the composition of written music and explore harmony as they sing and play in parts. 4th & 5th Grade will be given the opportunity to choose different types of worship arts experiences. This year’s offerings are handbells and interpretive movement. In handbells we’ll expand upon and deepen their music reading and rhythm skills as well as learn more about being in an ensemble comprised of different parts. Interpretive movement is using creatively choreographed, synchronized movements to visually tell and interpret a song or story. 5
