Leader: You cried alongside your friends and for the city of Jerusalem. People: Yet too often we rush past the pain of others and are careless about our cities. ABOUT TODAY’S WORSHIP Because of the necessity for social distancing at this time, we are unable to gather for an in-person service. However, we are pleased to offer this live worship broadcast on Fox50, Livestream, and Facebook live. As in recent Sundays, our service today will be a combination of both live worship segments with our ministers and pre-recorded content. Today we celebrate the birth of Cam and Susanna Thomas’s daughter on February 24. David and Susan Hailey are the proud grandparents. Today’s sanctuary flowers are given in appreciation of the staff and volunteers of HBBC by Tom and Fay McCutcheon. Lauren McCollister is Minister of Music and Students at First Baptist Church in Clinton, North Carolina. A native of the Eastern Shore of Maryland, she made North Carolina her home soon after attending Campbell University where she received both her Bachelor of Arts and Master of Divinity degrees. Lauren is in her fourth year of service at First Baptist Church where she ministers to the ministries of Music, Children and Youth. UPCOMING EVENTS PALM SUNDAY AND EASTER OUTDOOR WORSHIP We are excited to announce that we will be able to worship together outdoors on Sunday, March 28 (Palm Sunday) and Sunday, April 4 (Easter) at Enloe High School’s football stadium. Being outdoors will allow us to socially distance ourselves, with masks, allowing more of HBBC to be able to be together on these special Sundays. More information will be coming, but we hope that you are able to join us at 11:00 AM. The service will also be broadcast live on Fox 50 and on our website and Facebook page. IN-PERSON SUNDAY SCHOOL CLASS For those of you looking for an in-person Sunday School class, join us in the Fellowship Hall for eight-weeks at 9:15 AM starting Sunday, March 7. Lively Hope will be led by Dan Day. Participants will receive a weekly email with the Scripture that will be discussed on that Sunday. Dan has been with HBBC before and served as a Pastor for over 55 years, most recently at FBC Raleigh as well as serving in several churches as an Interim Pastor after retirement. Dan also served as a Professor at Campbell Divinity School. He is also a prolific writer and is currently working on a book that should be released this year. Dan is married and has two adult sons. Sign-ups will be required and the number of participants will be limited each week. Masks, social distancing, and other HBBC Covid protocols will be required. Contact Kristen Muse (kmuse@hbbc.org or 919-645-6722) if you have any questions. Sign up at hbbc.org/events/sundayschool-inperson. STEWARDSHIP - KEEP ON KEEPING ON But as for you, be strong and do not give up, for your work will be rewarded. -2 Chronicles 15:7, NIV At Hayes Barton we understand that stewardship is a way of life. Giving is what we do, in good times and bad. COVID-19 has taken a great toll on all of us. Several of our members have contracted the virus. Others have had family members who have died. Still others have lost jobs or have had their financial income greatly diminished. It’s been a hard year. Fortunately, there are several vaccines that are becoming available, and we believe the time will soon come when we can return to normal. Until then, we’re encouraging everyone to persevere. Or in the words of this year’s stewardship theme: Keep On Keeping On. If you have not turned in your 2021 Estimate of Giving card, please do so soon. You can contact the Finance Office (Tonia Tyner, Bookkeeper: ttyner@hbbc.org) and she can facilitate your commitment. We are working on developing our 2021 budget and your gift estimates determine the missions and ministries that we are able to plan for. Our hope is that many of us will keep on giving at the same level in 2021 as we did in 2020. We understand, of course, that some may not be able to do this, and that’s okay. Others, however, may be able to increase their giving. Let each of us respond according to our ability. As one old stewardship expression goes, “not equal gifts, but equal sacrifice.” Thank you to all who have participated faithfully in the Keep On Keeping On Stewardship Campaign. Presently we have 387 people participating with 251 pledges totaling $1,368,451. This includes 36 new pledges. Praise the Lord! Thank you for your faithful giving! UNIDENTIFIED STOCK GIFTS We need your help! If you have made a stock gift within the past month and not yet communicated directly with the Finance Office, please give us a call to help us identify your stock and the manner in which you would like us to allocate it. Very often, Brokers are reluctant to share donor names or intentions when executing a transfer to the Church. SOCIAL DISTANCING COACHES NEEDED As we continue with reopening the church, we need YOUR help in welcoming people as they arrive as well as helping members and guests follow our COVID protocol. We need volunteers to help with both inside and outside events as they are scheduled. Social Distancing Coaches are needed to: • Warmly welcome all participants to the church and encourage them to follow all safety protocols; • Monitor the wearing of masks by all participants; • Assist participants in the sign-in process; • Monitor practices of social distancing throughout the facility and offer friendly reminders to participants when safety protocols are not being followed; • Assist participants in signing out upon departure. We have a training video & FAQ sheet and sign-up is easily accessible. Please contact Hassan or Lori Elfaysal(lorielfaysal@gmail.com) or Kristen Muse (kmuse@hbbc.org) if you can help. THIS WEEK AT HBBC During the month of February we have been challenging our children and youth to find ways to share God’s love and serve one another. You are invited to share photos of ways your family has found to serve to be used during an upcoming worship service. The deadline to submit photos is Wednesday, March 3. Email your photos to thisweek@ hbbc.org. BLOOD DRIVE TO HONOR THE LATE CHRIS PERRI Please consider registering to donate blood to honor HBBC church member, the late Chris Perri on Friday, March 19 from 2:00-7:00 PM at HBBC. Chris was a member of the Hailey Sunday School class. We strongly encourage you to book an appointment, however, walk-ups will also be accepted. Sign up at hbbc.org by clicking on the Blood Drive icon. VACCINE ASSISTANCE NEEDED (MEDICAL AND NON-MEDICAL VOLUNTEERS) We are partnering with our 5 Points neighbor, Hayes Barton Pharmacy, in the distribution of the Covid vaccine. They have just received approval for a weekly supply of vaccines and are ready to prepare volunteers to help with these efforts. As their supply grows, we are hopeful that we can help by opening up the FLC for a Saturday clinic. There are no dates set yet, but they are in need of volunteers to sign up and get trained to be ready when this happens. If you are interested in volunteering please email volunteerhbp@gmail.com and they will share information and help onboard you. They need both approved vaccinators and others who aren’t to serve as volunteers. 2021 HBBC SCHOLARSHIPS Scholarship applications for college students are now available. If you are interested in applying for a scholarship through HBBC, please visit our website at hbbc.org/ scholarship-application to fill out the online form. FIND US ON INSTAGRAM We’re back! For the last several months we’ve been working with tech support to regain access to our previous Instagram account. Unfortunately, we’ve been unsuccessful. So we’re starting afresh with a new account. We’ll miss having our old profile, but we’re excited to be back with you here. Follow hayesbartonbaptistchurch. We can’t wait to reconnect! PATH FORWARD TASK FORCE UPDATE Although we long to see each other in person, we are grateful that HBBC has continued to remain connected virtually through worship, Sunday School classes, and other new activities. The pandemic has revealed the depth of our love for our church and one another. Every step along this pandemic journey we have been prayerfully preparing for reopening in-person worship, Sunday school, and other activities at HBBC. We believe the distribution of the vaccine will be a game-changer and we want to be prepared to reopen as soon as possible. Specifically, for in-person worship we are taking these new steps: • During the months of February and March, we are inviting representatives from the Diaconate and Path Forward Task Force to attend a worship service in the Sanctuary to test protocols and set-ups to gather additional ideas for enhancing in-person worship. They are helping us gather information to provide a worshipful hybrid experience. • On Palm Sunday, March 28, and Easter, April 4, we are planning for an outdoor worship service at an off-site location. The location will determine the protocols and number of people allowed, but these live services will allow a large number of people to attend. The service will still be broadcast live at 11:00 AM. • For Sunday School and other activities, we have significantly increased the internet technology at the church to provide for in-person, hybrid, and virtual classes. During the months of March and April, we will have an in-person Sunday School class led by Dan Day, former Pastor at FBC Raleigh, at 9:15 in the Fellowship. Sign-up will be required. We will also be increasing our outdoor activities, allowing more to gather, once the weather changes. As these difficult decisions are being made, the Path Forward Task Force continues to evaluate the data that our medical community is providing us to make these decisions. Several criteria are being considered to help make these decisions: • Does the vaccine rate need to be at a certain level for us to really open up? • Do those attending need to be vaccinated? • When will it be safe for 150 people to gather indoors? • What level of hospitalizations, deaths, and new cases do we believe is safe for large gatherings? We continue to wrestle with these decisions and constantly monitor medical information, survey the Congregation and listen intently to all viewpoints. We remain hopeful that we can resume our new normal soon, but will continue to monitor all of these sources of information and the conditions in our community. We will continue to update you as we move forward. CHANCEL CHOIR REHEARSALS The Chancel Choir will be having rehearsals during the month of March on Wednesdays, at 6:15 PM in preparation for our Palm Sunday and Easter services. March 3rd and March 10th will consist of sectional rehearsals, while March 17th, March 24th, and March 31st will include the full choir rehearsing outdoors with masks at the Whitaker Mill Patio. Contact Larry Dickens (ldickens@hbbc.org) for more information. YOUTH CHOIR Our Youth Choir will begin a 4-week session of rehearsals today at 3:00 PM. Each rehearsal will be outdoors with all participants and leaders wearing masks. VIRTUAL BIBLE STUDIES FOR THE NEW YEAR We want to encourage you to consider being a part of a time of discipleship. Wednesdays with Dave and Susan - Plan to join the Hailey’s for an old-fashioned midweek prayer meeting Wednesdays at 7:00 PM. We’ll share music, stories, prayer concerns, and read Paul’s Letter to the Romans. An email will be sent out weekly with the Zoom link and call-in information. If you do not receive the link, please contact Kristen Muse (kmuse@hbbc.org). Women’s Bible Study - Join us for an uplifting message from scripture and a time of fellowship at 10:45 AM on the second Tuesday of each month. Just bring your Bible and come as you are.
