Spectrum Center provides an exceptional experience for guests while treating them to a superior level of amenities. One of the arena’s most unique attractions is Rock the Rooftop, a fan zone located on the 200 level. With an open view of the lower bowl, Rock the Rooftop provides the ultimate setting for indoor tailgating, complete with concessions and an interactive kids area. Spectator comfort is a hallmark of the Spectrum Center experience. The arena features 60 percent of its seating from baseline to baseline, providing guests with a unique feeling of closeness to the court, stage or ice. Generous seating and legroom is standard in every seat, and seating configurations for Spectrum Center were developed by incorporating the best elements from other NBA and NHL facilities. One of the venue’s highlights is the center-hung scoreboard, which features one of the NBA’s most unique designs with an open-faced structure that allows fans to see through to the scoreboard’s “hive,” the cell pattern cladding and branding within the board that connects the screens, and serves as an artistic expression that represents the home of the Hornets. The scoreboard, which was installed in 2016 along with four corner-hung auxiliary boards and double-ring LED ribbon boards, consists entirely of high definition electronic LED panels, with the screen forming the entire face of the scoreboard. The two sideline boards, the tallest in the NBA at the time of their installation, are 25.2’ high x 42.8’ wide, while the two baseline boards are 18’ high x 31.3’ wide. In terms of square footage, the sideline boards are 180% larger and the baseline boards are 50% larger than the screens on the previous scoreboard. Additionally, the scoreboard has two underbelly screens measuring 9.8’ high x 16.5’ wide to provide a better view for those fans sitting in courtside and lower-level club seats. The scoreboard was part of a five-year improvement plan that also included renovating each of the arena’s restaurants and club areas and a 2017 project that saw the Hornets Fan Shop and Spectrum Center box office switch locations, with the store moving to the Main Lobby and the box office moving to the Trade Street Plaza. About the Charlotte Hornets Owned by NBA Legend Michael Jordan, the Charlotte Hornets are a member of the NBA’s Eastern Conference and Southeast Division. Charlotte’s first major professional sports team, the Hornets led the league in attendance during their inaugural season in 1988-89 and went on to do so seven straight times from 1990- 91 to 1996-97, recording 364 consecutive sellouts from December 23, 1988 through November 21, 1997. Following the 2001-02 season, the franchise moved to New Orleans, and two years later Charlotte received another expansion team, known as the Bobcats. In 2013, after the then-New Orleans Hornets relinquished the nickname, Jordan and the team sought to bring the Hornets moniker back to Charlotte and did so in May 2014. Along with the name, all of the statistical information, records and history of the original Hornets also returned to Charlotte, uniting the city’s rich history of NBA basketball. 32 31 NBAE/Getty Images
