AROUND TOWN LAKES FOR SWIMMING Take a picnic with you! Click here for details. LAKE ANNETTE Stroll the 2.4 km paved path encircling this local hotspot (watch for interpretive signs that name nearby mountains) before laying out a blanket on the beach and heading for a dip. There are also picnic tables, fire boxes, a playground, cooking shelter, changing rooms and an overall chill, family-friendly vibe. Location: Just after leaving JPL, take a right towards Lake Annette. LAKE EDITH A bit less populated than Lake Annette, but no less beautiful. Edith’s 4.9 km path around is more ensconced in the trees, and the beach doesn’t have quite as many amenities. Location: Just north of Lake Annette, along the same road. PYRAMID LAKE Four beaches and lots of picnic areas with fire pits. This is a popular spot for fishing (pick up a fishing license and supplies at Online Sport and Tackle on Patricia Street on your way). Be sure to check out the iconic bridge connecting to Pyramid Island too! Location: At the end of Pyramid Lake Road, approximately a 7 minute drive from town. PATRICIA LAKE This companion area to Pyramid Lake offers picnic areas with fire pits and access to the lakeshore. A little less sandy here, but a little quieter too. Fishing is also popular on Patricia Lake. Location: On left hand side of Pyramid Lake Road, just before Pyramid Lake. JASPER LAKE If wading in the water is more your style, you might enjoy taking in the stunning views at Jasper Lake. Technically, this shallow body of water beside the highway is part of the Athabasca River, but the channel is so wide in this part that it’s essentially a lake. With a parking lot, new outhouse bathroom and a stretch of beach, it makes a scenic pit stop on the way to or from JPL. Location: Beside Highway 16, about 20 minutes from Jasper. FOR MORE INFORMATION, PLEASE CONTACT THE CONCIERGE: jpl.concierge@fairmont.com | Call 780 852 6091 | Dial ‘54’ from your guest room | Text 587 788 3333
AROUND TOWN OUR FAVOURITE HIKES This is just the beginning, visit Concierge for more hikes! OLD FORT POINT Time Required: 1.5 - 2 Hours | Difficulty: Moderate | Elevation Gain: 130 m | Approximate Distance Round Trip: 10 km Old Fort Point is a favourite short hike that will challenge your small-summit abilities with a few steep grades and great panoramic lookouts over the town of Jasper and Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge. Directions: Begin at The Boathouse (facing the lake) and follow the trail to the left. At the Lac Beauvert parking area, follow the road a short distance to trail 7c (on the right hand side), connecting to trail 7. Turn left onto trail 7 and follow it to the base of Old Fort Point where the ascent begins at a set of stairs. Come back down the same way, or go down the backside of the mountain to complete a loop. There is also a parking lot at the base of Old Fort Point that can be accessed from Highway 16. MALIGNE CANYON Time Required: 2 - 2.5 Hours | Difficulty: Moderate | Elevation Gain: 110 m | Approximate Distance Round Trip: 7 km A series of bridges crossing the canyon allow you to tower over impressive waterfalls and canyon walls up to 50 metres tall! The hike can be started from the parking lot at the top of the canyon, or from the Fifth or Six Bridge parking lots at the bottom. Directions: At the end of Old Lodge Road, turn right onto Maligne Road. Look for signage on the left hand side as you drive. VALLEY OF THE FIVE LAKES Time Required: 1.5 - 2 Hours | Difficulty: Easy - Moderate | Elevation Gain: 66 m | Approximate Distance Round Trip: 4.5 km This hike takes you around five, sparkling blue-green lakes. Much of the trail is flat, but there are a few short steep sections. Directions: The trailhead is about a 20 minute drive from the Lodge. Take the Icefields Parkway about 9km south and you will see a big sign indicating the parking area on the left hand side. WHISTLERS MOUNTAIN Time Required: 3 - 3.5 Hours | Difficulty: Hard | Elevation Gain: 1200 m | Approximate Distance One Way: 8 km This is a great physical test with fantastic views. You can hike both ways, but we recommend taking the SkyTram down! Directions: Take Highway 93 south about 2 km. Turn right at the signs for the Jasper SkyTram onto Whistlers Road and follow it for 2.7 km. Turn left just after the Whistlers Hostel sign, but before the hostel. Follow the road 0.3 km to the trailhead. FOR MORE INFORMATION, PLEASE CONTACT THE CONCIERGE: jpl.concierge@fairmont.com | Call 780 852 6091 | Dial ‘54’ from your guest room | Text 587 788 3333

The First and Second bridges are easily accessible from the parking lot and cross over two of the deepest sections of the canyon with the most impressive waterfalls crashing below. Directions: At the end of Old Lodge Road, turn right onto Maligne Road. Look for signage on the left hand side as you drive. MEDICINE LAKE & MALIGNE LAKE Just 15 km past Maligne Canyon you’ll find Medicine Lake, a unique body of water that vanishes and re-appears each year as it drains through a network of underground caves. Keep driving and you’ll find Maligne Lake, the largest natural lake in the Canadian Rockies - a sight to behold with its turquoise waters ringed by snow-capped mountain peaks. Directions: Medicine Lake is 15 km past Maligne Canyon on Maligne Lake Road. Maligne Lake is an additional 22 km drive. MOUNT EDITH CAVELL Fragrant subalpine forest, flowery alpine meadows and spectacular views of Mt. Edith Cavell and the Angel Glacier. A short but steep 0.8 km walk from will take you to the glacier lookout. For a longer hike, ask Concierge about the Cavell Meadows trail. Directions: Drive 7 km south of Jasper on Highway 93, turn right onto 93A South. Travel 5.4 km and turn right onto Cavell Road. The 14 km road to the parking lot is narrow and has tight switchbacks that are unsuitable for trailers and large motorhomes. ATHABASCA FALLS The 23-metre Athabasca Falls is not very high by Canadian Rockies standards, but the size of the river makes it one of the most powerful falls to be found in the mountain national parks. . Directions: Drive 32 km south of Jasper on Highway 93. Turn right onto 93A North. The parking lot will be on your left in 600 m. SUNWAPTA FALLS A spectacular stepping waterfall that has carved a deep limestone gorge out of the rock some metres below the footbridge, made even more spectacular by a small island that divides the river just before the falls. Directions: Drive 53 km south of Jasper on Highway 93. Look for signage on the right hand side to turn towards Sunwapta Falls.
