The 2021 National Boys’ Education Conference Sponsorship Prospectus Introduction We invite you to consider the opportunities offered in this prospectus and encourage you to consider participation in a unique and significant event. Showcase your organisation’s achievements and offerings and raise your profile to a national audience from within the education sector. Welcome This year’s NBEC theme of “Failing, to grow!” asks us to examine the concept of failure from an educational perspective. The concept of failure in the educational context has been the subject of study now for many years. Much of our more recent thinking has investigated how different cultures tackle learning. For the most part, in Australian culture, intellectual, moral, or character failure in children, particularly boys, can be seen as an indicator of weakness and threatened masculinity. Whilst in other cultures it is not only tolerated but is often used to measure emotional strength. Emotionally strong boys can manage the stresses of daily life more effectively, and recover more quickly from challenges and crises when they arise. Positive attitudes around failure are associated with striving, bravery, and healthy risk taking, especially in the academic context. As educators of boys, celebrating and embracing ‘failure’ can be a powerful weapon in our teaching arsenal. NBEC 2021 is reaching across Australia and abroad to find case studies, experiments, and evidence from teachers and researchers who are using ‘failure’ as a pedagogical means of growing the next generation of young men. NBEC offers your company a strategically aligned business opportunity, and in turn we seek a partner committed to enhancing the Conference experience and learning outcomes for attendees. We invite you to peruse the following opportunities in this Sponsorship Prospectus, we are eager to work with you. Welcome from the NBEC 2021 Scientific Committee. Chair, Dr Dean Dudley | Director of The King’s Institute, The King’s School Dr Hugh Chilton | Director of Research and Professional Learning, The Scots College Adam Hendry | Assistant Principal – Learning, Parramatta Marist High School Dr Matthew Hill | Director of the Barker Institute, Barker College
