What is.... CENTRAL RIVERS Central Rivers Farmshed is a 501c3 non- profit organization representing all aspects of the food system whose members are committed to making central Wisconsin a renowned, local food community. FARMSHED? Together with our dedicated community members and partners, Farmshed organizes a variety of programming and resources, including this Atlas, focused on educating different facets of our community about local food and sustainable agriculture. Food touches us all, everyone must eat, so together we work to make connections between people and their food by taking action and teaching those around us about sustainable, local food systems in ways that directly impact their behaviors. Farmshed’s Programming Frozen Assets Local, organic vegetables direct from farm, processed in the Farmshed kitchen. Distributed November through March, full and half shares available. Wisconsin summer, right in your freezer! Farmshed Shared-Use Kitchen Rentals Fully equipped commercial kitchen. Available for use to local food entrepreneurs and community members alike. Growing Collective Farmshed members volunteer to collectively grow bedding plants each spring. Members receive plants for their home gardens and raise extra for the Plant Sale 2
our mission Farmshed Farmshed’s mission is to grow a resilient local food community. Local Food Tastes Great School Fundraiser An alternative school fundraiser that keeps money in the local economy and educates youth. Students sell local foods to raise money for their schools. Farm Fresh Atlas™ Farmshed publishes the Farm Fresh Atlas™ of Central Wisconsin annually. This is a free local food guide showcasing farms selling direct-to-consumer as well as local restaurants and businesses. View it online at farmfreshatlas.org! Local Food Fair February // Stevens Point Bringing together producers, consumers, local businesses, and educators to celebrate community and the food that’s grown within it. Come one, come all to the region’s largest local food celebration! Chefs showcase live to market goers how to cook and prepare foods from scratch using fresh seasonal produce. Growing Collective May // Stevens Point Plant Sale The Plant Sale is Farmshed’s largest fundraising event. The public is invited to purchase annual vegetable and herb bedding plants on Memorial Day Weekend. Over 40 dedicated volunteers start the plants from seed in early spring. Farmer Tribute Dinner November // Stevens Point Farmshed members and the regional local food community invite our Farm Fresh Atlas farmers to a complimentary meal as we celebrate the harvest season. 46
