THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 30, 2021 NEWSLETTER EYES ON PJP Cross Country’s, Evan Halbert Shows the True Meaning of Sportsmanship at Competition The weather was ideal and the course was fast and ready for another cross country competition on September 24th. Our jaguars and lady jags didn't disappoint - not only in competition, but in true sportsmanship. PJP extends our utmost pride for the act of kindness shown by sophomore, Evan Halbert, who stopped racing to assist a fellow runner that collapsed during the wooded stretch of the race and showed that helping someone in need surpasses competition. Our hearts are full for what Evan did. Brooke Becker and Grace Lauricella represented for the lady jags and completed a steady 3K race against 9 other competing schools. First to cross the nish line for the jags (and 34th overall) was junior, Daniel Calamari with a time of 19:01. He was followed close behind by freshman, Adam Merkle with a 19:11 nish. THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 30, 2021 NEWSLETTER Dear Jaguar Families, It is always a pleasure to come to work each day and be among my extended FAMILY. The community of students and staff and parents and alumni, who remind me and one another what it means to work towards the same goal As I previously stated to you, following the two week shut down from Ida, we had plenty ‘hurricane shuf ing’ to do around here. Mrs. Doucet, our Academic Council and faculty were quickly hard at work to redesign the timing and grading cycle of the rst quarter so that our students receive adequate curriculum. Mrs. Taylor ensured and continues to see that our staff be amply supported during these past weeks of re-opening and beyond. Multiple faculty, staff, our mens club, parents, campus ministry teams and students were and are still “boots on the ground” in support of relief efforts throughout the region, including here on campus. Recently, and as if dropped from heaven by the power of the Holy Spirit, PJP was quickly blessed with strong, new employees who are providing us every day with their natural talent, and who have seamlessly transitioned into our Jaguar family! Two more students, Breanna Sebring and Kate Prude, joined the ACT-30+ Club. Student-athletes are excelling in their respective sports; and are reminding us all of their Christian leadership, such as: the heroic actions of Evan Halbert last week during the Cross Country meet, and the re ection and remembrance at our football game for Mr. Tim. I have had the pleasure of observing as the Retreat team hosted our 8th graders to a full day of re ection and team-building, the PTC of cers plan and host an informative evening, discovering more plans from our Student Council to best serve the entire student body and extended community, and yesterday, the school paused in memory of Coach Charlie Cryer ~ all constant reminders of faith permeating beyond the classrooms here at PJP WE ARE A FAMILY. It’s a great day to be a Jaguar. Please consider how you can participate in or help extend our Jaguar spirit to others. The Slidell Life Chain is this Sunday. Hurricane relief efforts for Ascension of Our Lady, Mr. Triche’s school is ongoing. This October 21st, we will wear pink to raise funds for cancer research. And nally, simple prayers are needed for so many. Don’t be afraid to become a SAINT. Sincerely in Christ, Mrs. Kimberlie Kilroy, Head of School PJP Honors the Memory of & Pauses in Gratitude for Mr. Tim Satterlee, Sr. On Friday, September 24th, the Jags faced strong opposition from Episcopal - Baton Rouge. Though the team went down in defeat 41-14, 'helmets off' to George Arata & Robbie Worchel, who scored the two touchdowns that evening for the Jags. Prior to kickoff, the community held a moment of silence to honor the memory of Mr. Tim Satterlee, Sr. His son, Tim, and his granddaughters, Remi & Reilly, were on hand for the reveal of new signage - located under the north end zone play clock - as well as Mr. Tim's initials painted at the 50-yard line. Football athletes will be wearing “TS” stickers on their helmets in memory of Mr. Tim all season. We are forever grateful for everything Mr. Tim did and meant to the PJP community. May he rest in peace and may the spirit of his service 2 to our school live on forever in us all! fl fi . fl fi . fi fl

THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 30, 2021 NEWSLETTER Do Not Be Afraid to Be a Saint - October Saint of the Month Contributed by: Mr. Ryan Cossé, Campus Minister Earlier this year, we mentioned that our theme for the school year is “Do not be afraid to be a saint!” - an interpretation of a quote from our namesake. We chose this theme because it is important to remember that holiness - sainthood - is not for the select few, but for every person. Each of us is called to be a saint here in our own time, in our own place, and in our own way. The way I am called to be a saint is very different than the way that you are called to be a saint. A saint is not just someone who goes around all day living a perfect life and prays every second of the day, but they are those who recognize God’s love for them and do their best to seek out that love and to share it with others. This is what we are calling every member (administration, teachers, staff, students, parents, alumni, etc.) of the PJP family to this year. To be that saint in our world that so desperately needs it. Each month we will name a Saint of the Month to help emphasize our theme and to give examples of men and women who have gone before us and shown us one way of being a saint. This saint will be discussed throughout the month in our daily routine. I chose some Saints that are well known and others that may be the first time you are hearing their name. Again, I wanted to show as many different paths to sainthood as I can. With that being said, we finally are able to name our first Saint of the Month after two months of interruption and chaos. October’s Saint of the Month was difficult to choose because October offers us many great Saints to remember, including our own Saint John Paul II. Nevertheless, after much prayer, the Saint I chose to name is Blessed Carlo Acutis. Carlo Acutis was beatified only in October of last year and is on his way to becoming a Saint of the Church. However, this does not make his example and story any less important for us. Carlo Acutis was born in 1991 to a non-practicing Catholic family. He grew up like any other millennial boy who loved video games, the internet, comic books, and playing soccer. Carlo died at 15 years old after a short battle with leukemia. On first appearance, he would not be what you would expect a saint to look like. However, from a very young age and despite his family’s own lack of faith, Carlo had a devout relationship with God and sought to share his faith with others. He was known for using social media to share his faith and miracles, his deep love for the Eucharist, serving the poor, and bringing others, especially his own family, closer to God. One of his life mottos was “All people are born as originals, but most die as photocopies.” This is important for all of us to remember that God created each of us with our own unique personalities and gifts, and unfortunately, many of us fail to fully become that person God created us to be. Hopefully, Blessed Carlo Acutis’ example is one that can inspire us to boldly live out our faith, to remember our true purpose here on Earth, and to take those things we love and use them to spread God’s love. We celebrate his first feast day this year on October 12 - the anniversary of his death. From the desk of College Counselor, Mr. Danny Clavier - We are excited to host College Night at PJP on Tuesday, October 5th from 7:00 - 8:00 pm. All students are invited and their parents are welcome. This is a great opportunity for our Juniors and Seniors to meet with some of the regional universities to learn more information. For those students not interested in pursuing a degree program at a 4 year university, we will also have some community and technical colleges in attendance to discuss other options. The following schools will be in attendance with more committing every day. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me via email or phone. At the time of this writing, we have commitments from the following to our campus: Louisiana State University, University of Southern Mississippi, Mississippi State University, University of Louisiana Lafayette, University of Louisiana Monroe, Springhill University, Louisiana Tech, Centenary College, University of Holy Cross, Tulane University, Franciscan Missionaries of our Lady University, Delgado Community College, Nunez Community College, Southeastern Louisiana University, Millsaps College, Northwestern LA State University, Northshore Technical College. 6
