Learn about the five energy healing systems of qigong as guided by DeeAnn Gieseke. As a form of gentle exercise, qigong is composed of movements that are typically repeated, strengthening and stretching the body, increasing fluid movement (blood, synovial, and lymph), enhancing balance and improving the awareness of how the body moves. Qigong can be described as a mind-body- spirit practice that improves one’s mental and physical health by integrating posture, movement, breathing technique, self-massage, sound, and focused intent. Qigong increases the supply and flow of energy throughout the body, can have a variety of rejuvenating effects and is believed to increase longevity, and it induces calm mental and emotional states. The class will explore changes in laws, the latest vehicle technology, and provide you with easy-to-use defensive driving tips. In addition, we will explore traffic safety and accident prevention. The classroom sessions are the initial eight hour and four hour refresher format. Completion of this course allows for a 10% reduction on automobile insurance premiums for those age 55 and over. Early Childhood Family Education (ECFE) is a program for all Minnesota families with children between the ages of birth and Kindergarten enrollment. It recognizes that families provide children’s first and most important learning environments and parents are children’s first and most significant teachers. When a property is not well maintained this reflects on the entire neighborhood. Compost Site hours - Monday & Wednesday - 4:00pm to 7:00pm, Saturday - 8:00am - Noon and 1:00pm -5:00pm Fee charge of $2.00 per day or 12 day card for $12.00. Punch cards can be purchased at city hall or from the compost caretaker. Compost site is closed when it is raining. (closed in winter) Fire Pits Should be located in your side yard or back yard. The burning of debris is illegal and subject to a fine. Fires should be extinguished when you are no longer attending the fire. Dog Licenses City ordinance requires that dogs be licensed. It is a lifetime license of $25.00 When licensing your dog you are also proving that you have had administered the necessary rabies shots for the dog. House numbers Required by city ordinance – used to find residence in the event of a fire or need for an ambu- lance. The numbers must be standard Arabic, in a color distinguishable from its background; at least 4 inches in height. Property Maintenance, Trash, Debris Trash, appliances, furniture, scrap metal and other such materials which is a visual blight to neighborhood must be removed from property or stored away from view and taken to local landfill. The owner is responsible for keeping land free of refuse. Lawn Care. Noxious weeds and grass taller than 8 inches are considered a nuisance. It is the property owner's responsibility to control weeds/ grass on their property and any abutting boulevard or alley. Mowing grass into the street is prohibited. Grass in the streets clogs up the storm sewer system, which can cause street flooding and possible water backup into homes. Fire hydrants In the event you plant flowers around fire hydrants, please note that the city water and fire depart- ments are not responsible for any damage to them when we are maintaining and using a hydrant. Vehicles All vehicles must be licensed, registered and operable unless they are completely enclosed within a building. Vehicles are prohibited from parking on your front lawns. Performing car maintenance in the city street is not allowed. This can be very dangerous if the car is not properly secured. Used oil should be properly disposed of at the Watonwan County High- way Department. Garage Sales Limited to up to 6 garage sales per year and must obtain permit for each sale. Los numeros deben ser números arábigos estándar, en un color distinguible de su fondo; al menos 4 pulgadas de altura. Mantenimiento de la propiedad, basura y escombros: Basura, accesorios, muebles, y otros materiales similares, que son una plaga visual para el vecindario, deben ser retirados de la propiedad o almacenado fuera de la vista del público y llevado al vertedero local. El dueño es responsable de mantener la tierra libre de basura. Cuidado del Cesped: Malas hierbas nocivas y hierba más alta que 8 pulgadas se consideran una molestia. Es responsabilidad del dueño de la propiedad de controlar malas hierbas y césped en su propiedad y cualquier bulevar o callejón contiguo. Esta prohibido cortar césped a la calle. Césped en la calle obstruye el sistema de alcantarillado pluvial, y puede causar inundaciones en las calles y posible acumulación de agua en los hogares. Hidrantes: En el evento en que usted plante flores alrededor de un hidrante de fuego, por favor note que el agua de La Ciudad y el Departamento de Bomberos no son responsables por cualquier daño a ellas cuando mantenemos y usamos un hidrante. Vehiculos: Todos los vehiculos deben tener licencia, estar registrados y operables a menos que estén completamente encerrados dentro de un edificio. Watonwan County Human Services 715 2nd Avenue South, St. James, MN 56081 (507) 375-3294 SOCIAL SERVICES PROGRAMS We offer a variety of services to all residents of Watonwan County. In this issue, we are highlighting just a few of the social services programs that are available for you or for someone you know. You can access more information on these programs by calling or stopping by the office. The following programs are voluntary services and do have some criteria for eligibility. ELDERLY HOME CARE SERVICES This is a state program designed to decrease nursing home placements and provide home care to individuals age 65 or older who meet the financial guidelines. CADI-HOME CARE SERVICES FOR DISABLED This is a state program intended to promote community living and independence through supportive services based on individual needs. This program is for persons under the age of 65, certified disabled, and meet the financial guidelines. CHEMICAL DEPENDENCY This program provides chemical dependency assessments, counseling and assists persons in accessing treatment programs. DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES This program identifies the need for planning, seeking out, acquiring, authorizing and coordinating services for persons who are diagnosed with disabilities. This program also monitors and evaluates the delivery of services and protecting the rights of persons with developmental disabilities. CHILDREN'S MENTAL HEALTH This program provides information, referrals, outreach and case management for children who are diagnosed with a severe emotional and behavioral disorder. This program also provides supportive services to the family to help them deal with the special needs of children who have mental health diagnosis. ADULT MENTAL HEALTH This program provides information, referrals, outreach, case management and community supportive services to adults who are diagnosed with a serious and persistent mental illness. This program also helps with residential services, crisis services and independent living skills. DAYCARE AND FOSTER CARE LICENSING This program recruits and licenses daycare and foster care (child and adults) homes. Individuals who are interested in providing daycare and/or foster care in their family homes can contact our office to obtain information on the criteria to become licensed.
