EDITORIAL The month of August has been filled with various activities. As we all know, August is women's month in South Africa. In this issue we will be mainly, focusing on issues surrounding women. As we all know there are various occasions, functions and webinars taking place this month, particularly around women. We will start off, looking into the women’s online conference, hosted by SACAP on the 6TH of August. Then a highlight, looking at the celebrating women month design show, which will be hosted on the 31st of August. Further to the above, we will look into policy issues, in light of the Draft MOU issued between the competition commission of South Africa and South African council for the Architectural Profession. As the Transformation committee, our aim is to rally into this timeline, a significant and distinguished change. How do we move and re-write the narrative? It’s the transcription of real change, in real time, moving from conversations on site, to changes evident in the industry and are a true reflection of our current society. According to Deputy Minister’s speech, Honourable Noxolo Kiviet, at the SACAP women's’ conference, only 23 percent of registered professionals are women, similarly only 26 percent of registered candidates are women. ” A great deal of work is required to address the pipeline, right from school level to ensure that more people can access opportunities Boitumelo Masela is a registered Professional Architect and Principal to enter the architectural profession in its various categories.” Architect at Posh Ideas. In echoing deputy minister’s words, if anything, these numbers incite that we have a long way to go as a profession and industry. In Boitumelo has over 10 years’ an interview, Lesley Lokko says the following: experience in a diverse range of projects in the built environment. ‘’…As long as we continue to resist it, the kind of transformational change we all claim to seek in the built environment disciplines, She joined GIfA’s Transformation will require a kind of intellectual violence that no institution wants to provoke or support. Someone sent me one of those Instagram Committee in 2020 snapshots that read, ‘you will never influence the world by trying to be like it.’’ But as we move mountains and tell our stories as women, let’s continue to loudly pronounce the names of the women that continue to pave the way for the profession.
