AVICENNA VIRTUAL CAMPUS Mediterranean Region 11/2002-12/2006 EUMEDIS-Program • Coordinated by UNESCO and supported by the European Commission, the project was launched in November 2002 to alleviate the digital divide in higher education along the Mediterranean basin. (total budget: 7 Million USD) Indicators of achievements (31/12/2006) • 14 Avicenna Centres : Algeria, Morocco, Tunisia, Egypt, • Jordan, Lebanon, Palestine, Syria, Turkey, Cyprus, • Italy, France, Spain and Malta • 140,416 students enrolled • 1,000 teachers/ tutors trained • 206 online modules (20 hours) produced • A Unified Avicenna Virtual Library shared by partners • 80 seminars organised • 6 films produced • 1500 blind students use the adapted online courses via Internet in 2007 (e-learning for blind students) 3

Avicenna Quality Assurance System (AQAS) Designed for Avicenna Virtual Campus in the Mediterranean region Dedicated to the management and accreditation (/ Validation) of developed courses Avicenna accreditation process ensures that courses produced by members of Avicenna network do respect defined objectives These objectives are defined in the Avicenna pedagogical model The accreditation is done by the Avicenna Scientific Council

AVC e-Learning Center (Palestine) Al-Quds Open University (QOU) Access Points • Avicenna centre in Palestine has produced 22 modules in 2006 • The portal of Avicenna centre in Palestine currently holds more than 160 courses, this number increases continuously. • those modules are used by more than 250,000 students till academic year 2011/2012 Chart shows the Avg number of e- courses Pr M. KAZAKHSTAN Extension of Avicenna Virtual Campus 2021 According the European Commission experts’ report, the African Virtual Campus based on the Avicenna Model has been officially approved by the UNESCO Executive Board and General Conference as Flagship Project for the development of Science and Technology in Africa.
