GST was launched on the 1st July, 2017 in a majestic ceremony held in the Central Hall of Parliament on the midnight of 30th June, 2017. Hence, the Government alongwith partners from the trade and industry is celebrating the 2nd Anniversary of GST on 1st July 2019. July 1 – The National Doctors Day • The National Doctors Day was created to accommodate the services of doctors and individuals for the community. The First Doctor’s Day was celebrated in India in the year 1991. July 1 happens to be the birth and death anniversary of the most famous physician of India – Dr Bidhan Chandra Roy. It is hence a tribute to his contributions to the health domain in the country. NATIONAL AFFAIRS RAJASTHAN 5th and 6th Unit of Chabra Super Critical Thermal Power Station • In Rajasthan, Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot inaugurated 5th and 6th Unit of Chabra Super Critical Thermal Power Station this afternoon. The exercise for collecting information on locals and non-locals has a 60-day deadline • Nagaland’s Home Commissioner R. Ramakrishnan issued a notification for setting up of the Register of Indigenous Inhabitants of Nagaland (RIIN) aimed at preparing a master list of all indigenous peoples and checking the issuance of fake indigenous inhabitant certificates. INTERNATIONAL Abu Dhabi to host first ISA’s joint security exercise ISALEX19 • Representatives of 50 law enforcement agencies of the International Security Alliance are taking part in the first joint security exercise in Abu Dhabi.The International Security Alliance, launched in 2017 in Abu Dhabi, are an international working group to confront organised, transnational and extremist crimes. SCIENCE Experimental antiviral drug for Nipah virus • In a new study, researchers from the National Institutes of Health, U.S., have shown that Remdesivir was able to treat four African green monkeys which were given a lethal dose of Nipah virus. Remdesivir is a broad-spectrum antiviral drug which is currently in phase 2 clinical trial for the treatment of Ebola. Dexter Academy

SPORTS Veer wins U-19 Asian Squash title • In Squash, India won a gold as Veer Chotrani beat compatriot Yash Fadte to win the Under-19 title at the Asian Junior Championship in Macau, China. With this victory, Veer became the third Indian to win the Asian trophy after Ravi Dixit and Vela Senthilkumar. Daily Current Affairs – July 02, 2019 IMPORTANT DAYS July 2 – World UFO Day • The term ‘UFO’ for Unidentified Flying Object was coined by US Air Force officer Edward Ruppelt. World UFO Day was organized by WorldUFODay.com in 2001, and was put together to bring together enthusiasts of UFO’s and the evidence they’ve all gathered to support their existence. NATIONAL Centre constitutes chief ministers’ panel for agriculture reforms • Centre has constituted a high powered committee of Chief Ministers of several states for the transformation of Indian Agriculture. INTERNATIONAL New Zealand bans single-use plastic shopping bags • New Zealand has officially banned single-use plastic shopping bags. Companies that break the ban will face heavy penalties, including fines of up to 100,000 New Zealand dollars (USD 67,000). Under the new rules, thin plastic single-use shopping bags can no longer be supplied, but reusable carriers are allowed. The legislation which was announced in August last year came into force. Iran exceeds uranium limit set in nuclear deal • Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif has said that the country has exceeded the 300-kilogramme limit on its enriched uranium reserves set by the 2015 nuclear deal. • This was confirmed by the International Atomic Energy Agency inspectors. It is only permitted (until 2031) to produce low- enriched uranium, which has a 3-4 per cent concentration of U- 235, and can fuel a power plant. BUSINESS & ECONOMY Government to introduce new return system for GST on trial basis • The government will introduce the new return system on a trial basis on the second anniversary of Goods and Services Tax Dexter Academy

The Finance Ministry has also proposed Sahaj and Sugam returns for small taxpayers for the current fiscal. SCHEMES Jal Shakti Abhiyan • Union Government has launched Jal Shakti Abhiyan to create awareness on the benefits of water conservation and declining sources of water in the country. The Jal Shakti Abhiyan has been launched in two phases. The first phase is 1st July to 15th September and is for all participating States and the second phase will be between 1st October to 30th November for States with retreating monsoon. • There are five key intervention areas under the movement including water conservation and rainwater harvesting, renovation of traditional and other water bodies, reuse, borewell recharge structures, watershed development and intensive afforestation. MoU, AGREEMENTS & CABINET APPROVALS Parliament approves resolution to extend President rule in J&K • The Parliament has given its nod to the resolution seeking extension of President rule in Jammu and Kashmir for further period of six months with effect from 3rd July 2019 with the Rajya Sabha approving it. Jammu and Kashmir Reservation (Amendment) Bill, 2019 was also passed by Parliament with Rajya Sabha approving it. UGC approves new initiative STRIDE • The University Grants Commission (UGC) has approved a new initiative – Scheme for Trans-disciplinary Research for India’s Developing Economy (STRIDE) to boost research culture in the country. This scheme will strengthen research culture and innovation in colleges and Universities. DEFENCE Defence Ministry issues RFPs for acquisition of ships, craft worth Rs 15,000 cr • Ministry of Defence has issued four shipbuilding Requests for Proposal, RPF amounting to 15,000 crore rupees for the acquisition of various ships and craft for the Navy and the Coast Guard. • The RFP for six Next Generation Missile Vessels has been issued to seven shipyards, RFPs for eight Fast Patrol Vessels, twelve Air Cushion Vehicles and eight Missile-cum-Ammunition Barges have been issued to shortlisted Indian shipyards. Daily Current Affairs – July 03, 2019 NATIONAL AFFAIRS Government to raise health services expenditure to 2.5% of GDP by 2025 • Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan said government has set a target to raise health services expenditure to 2.5 per cent of the country’s GDP by 2025. In reply to a question in Rajya Sabha, Dr Harsh Vardhan said, the public expenditure on health services is continuously increasing. ASSAM Assam CM flags off first international flight connecting Guwahati, Dhaka • Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal flagged off the first international flight connecting Guwahati and Dhaka at Borjahr airport in Guwahati. Mr. Sonowal said that the Centre has boosted the connectivity of the North East region. The Assam Government has committed 100 crore rupees per year for three years under viability gap funding. Another flight connecting Guwahati-Bangkok is also likely to be started in the next few months along with flights to Kathmandu, Yangon, Hanoi and Kuala Lumpur. Dexter Academy

Kalu Police station recently bagged First Rank in an assessment by the Home ministry of 15 thousand 666 police stations across the country. KERALA Adiya Tribesmen begin ‘Naduzhiyal’ • The Adiya tribesmen in Wayanad have started to perform ‘Naduzhiyal’ as part of their ritualistic art form ‘Nadugaddhika’ in villages of the hill district for the prosperity of the public. The ritual usually starts after the Vaishakha festival at the Mahadeva temple at Kottiyoor in Kannur district. JAMMU & KASHMIR Operation Khumaar • In Jammu and Kashmir a campaign has been launched in Rajouri, a border district of Jammu division called “Operation Khumaar” to make 312 panchayats tobacco-free. The programme is run by the district administration to make panchayats free from tobacco and tobacco-based products. District Development Commissioner, Rajouri convened a meeting of officers in this regard and gave necessary directions. INTERNATIONAL India pledges to contribute USD 5 million in 2019 to UN Palestine refugee agency • India has pledged to contribute 5 million US Dollars in 2019 to the UN Palestine refugee agency. SCHEMES Vahalee Deekaree Yojana • Vahalee Deekaree Yojana is a new scheme to educate girls, improve sex ratio and prevent child marriage in Gujarat. With a provision of Rs 133 crore, the scheme will benefit families with income of upto Rs 2 lakh per year. Under the ‘Vahalee Deekaree Yojana’, the first and second girl child of the family will be provided assistance of Rs 4,000 at the time of enrollment in the Class I and assistance of Rs 6,000 at the time of enrollment in Class IX. APPOINTMENTS Chairman of International School of Dravidian Linguistics (ISDL) • M. Maheshwaraiah, Vice-Chancellor, Central University of Karnataka (CUK), has been appointed chairman of International School of Dravidian Linguistics (ISDL). The school was established in 1977 at Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. It is the only organisation of its kind dedicated to the preservation and development of Dravidian languages across the world through teaching, learning, research, and publication. Daily Current Affairs – July 04, 2019 NATIONAL AFFAIRS Railways to install CCTV cameras in over 7,000 train coaches by 2021 • The railways has set a target to install CCTV cameras in more than 7,000 coaches of mainline passenger trains by March 2021. Railway Minister Piyush Goyal said CCTV cameras have already been installed in coaches of premium, mail, express and suburban trains. INTERNATIONAL IMF board approves $6 billion loan package for Pakistan • The International Monetary Fund Executive board gave formal approval to a three-year, $6 billion loan package for Pakistan to rein in mounting debts and stave off a looming balance of payments crisis. The Board approval will allow immediate disbursement of around $1 billion, with the remainder to be phased in over the period of the programme, subject to quarterly review, the IMF said in a brief statement. SCIENCE NASA tests launch-abort system for its moon mission • NASA carried out a successful test of a launch-abort system for the Orion capsule designed to take U.S. astronauts to the Moon. The three-minute exercise at Cape Canaveral in Florida aimed to test in almost real-life conditions the evacuation of Dexter Academy

BUSINESS Govt hikes Minimum Support Price of Kharif crops for 2019- 20 season • In a major boost to the farmers’ income, the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has approved the increase in the Minimum Support Prices, MSP for all Kharif crops for 2019- 20 Season. The increase in MSP for Kharif Crops for 2019-20 season is in line with the principle of fixing the MSPs at a level of at least 1.5 times of the all India weighted average Cost of production, which was announced in the last budget 2018-19. MoU & CABINET APPROVAL Cabinet approves MoU between India and Maldives for Shipping • The Union Cabinet has given ex-post facto approval for the MoU between India and Maldives for the establishment of passenger and cargo services by sea. India is a leading development partner of Maldives and has established many of the leading institutions of Maldives. Currently, India has provided US $100 million Stand-by Credit facility (SCF) to Maldives, including long-term loans and revolving credit for trade. Dexter Academy

The MoU primarily aims to facilitate sharing and promoting best practices through bilateral exchanges. • The areas of cooperation include exchange of experience in use of Information Technology in examination processes, modern approach to public service reforms, exchange of resource persons for conducting specialised training programs, seminars or workshops in areas of mutual interest SUMMITS NDMA conducts workshop on Glacial Hazards and Risks • National Disaster Management Authority in partnership with Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) is organizing a two-day brainstorming meeting on the assessment and management of glacial risks, particularly glacial lake outburst floods (GLOFs) in New Delhi. GLOFs refer to the sudden discharge of a water reservoir that has formed either underneath, at the side, in front, within, or on the surface of a glacier. SPORTS Poznan Athletics Grand Prix • Hima Das, the under-20 World champion won the women’s 200m gold in the Poznan Athletics Grand Prix in Poland. Muhammed Anas in men’s 200m, S. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said that the examination of direct recruitment of Scale-1 officers and Office Assistant in RRBs will be conducted in regional languages too. The regional languages are Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Konkani, Malyalam, Manipuri, Marathi, Oriya, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu and Urdu. UTTAR PRADESH UP government launches toll-free CM helpline 1076 • In Uttar Pradesh, the State government today launched a toll- free Chief Minister helpline 1076 that will enable people from across the state to register their complaints and will ensure a time-bound action on the complaints also. TRIPURA Tripura gets Rs. 358 crore from Centre for road projects • The Centre has sanctioned an additional amount of Rs. 358 crore for construction of new roads in rural areas of Tripura. www.dexteracademy.in INTERNATIONAL Bangladesh, China sign 9 instruments on various sectors • China will provide 2,500 metric tons of rice to Bangladesh for the forcibly displaced Rohingyas from Myanmar. This was part of nine instruments signed between Bangladesh and China today. The nine instruments- five agreements, three memorandums of understanding (MoUs) and a document- were inked after the bilateral talks between Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her Chinese counterpart Li Keqiang at the Great Hall of People today French to levy 3% tax on Internet giants • France’s Lower House of Parliament approved a small, pioneering tax on Internet giants like Google, Amazon and Facebook. The Bill aims to stop multinationals from avoiding taxes by setting up headquarters in low-tax European Union countries. Currently, the companies pay nearly no tax in countries where they have large sales like France. • The bill foresees a 3% tax on the French revenues of digital companies with global revenue of more than €750 million, and French revenue over €25 million. BUSINESS Economic Survey projects 7% GDP growth in current fiscal • Finance and Corporate Affairs Minister Nirmala Sitharaman tabled the Economic Survey 2018-19 in both Houses of Parliament. The survey projects GDP to grow at 7 per cent in 2019-20. The Indian economy is expected to grow at 6.8 per in 2018-19 while maintaining macro-economic stability. • The fiscal deficit has been pegged at 3.4 per cent of GDP for 2018-19. The survey has provisionally estimated 2.9 per cent growth rate for the agriculture, forestry and fishing sector. Dexter Academy

www.dexteracademy.in Daily Current Affairs – July 07 & 08 2019 NATIONAL AFFAIRS 38th WORLD UNESCO World HERITAGE SITE as Pink City Jaipur • In yet another landmark achievement, India’s nomination of the Jaipur City, Rajasthan got inscribed on the World Heritage List of UNESCO during the 43rd Session of the World Heritage Committee held at Baku, Azerbaijan. • The nomination of Jaipur City has successfully been done by complying with the various UNESCO guidelines of 2017. With Successful inscription of Jaipur City, India has 38 world heritage sites, that include 30 Cultural properties, 7 Natural properties and 1 mixed site. Government to invest 50 lakh crore rupees in railways by 2030 • Railway Minister Piyush Goyal has said that the government is eyeing investment of 50 lakh crore in railways by the year 2030 to make it the best in the world. Mr Goyal announced that the entire Konkan Railway route from Mumbai to Mangaluru via Goa would be electrified at the cost of 11,000 crore rupees. Fertiliser subsidy sees a hike of around Rs 10,000 crore in Union Budget • Fertilizer Subsidy allocation has seen a hike of around 10,000 crore rupees in the Union Budget. Chemicals and Fertilizers Minister, DV Sadananda Gowda said, the increased allocation towards the Fertilizer Subsidy would further help in increasing the efficiency of subsidy transfers to the farmers through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT). Two of them would be promoting fisheries for the first time in Kurnool. ARUNACHAL PRADESH Central govt going to set-up three Sports Centre of Excellence in Itanagar • Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Youth Affairs and Sports Kiren Rijiju has informed that central government is going to set-up three Sports Centre of Excellence in Itanagar very soon. Mr. Rijiju said that the three centre of excellence will be for Martial Arts, Weight Lifting and Boxing. India had notified the basic custom duty to 200 per cent on all goods exported from Pakistan with effect from 16th of February this year. The Indian Air Force has ordered 15 Chinooks and the first four helicopters arrived in February. The IAF had placed the order in 2015 along with 22 Apache attack helicopters. Boeing India said, the advanced multi-mission helicopter will provide the armed forces unmatched strategic airlift capability. INTERNATIONAL France to impose green tax on plane tickets from 2020 • The French government is to impose a tax of up to €18 on plane tickets for all flights from airports in France to fund less- polluting transportation projects. The new measure is expected to bring in some €182 million a year which will be invested in greener transport infrastructures, notably rail. A Gaganyaan National Advisory Council has been created with members from different institutions and industries Neutrino Observatory • The Government of India has approved a project to build the India-based Neutrino Observatory (INO) at Pottipuram in the Theni District of Tamil Nadu. Briefly, the project aims to set up a 51000 ton Iron Calorimeter (ICAL) detector to observe naturally occurring atmospheric neutrinos in a cavern at the end of an approximately 2 km long tunnel in a mountain. This will help to reduce the noise from cosmic rays that is ever present over-ground and which would outnumber the rare neutrino interactions even in a detector as large as ICAL. • The INO project does not disturb the ecosystem around the site and does not release any radiation, as it does not have any radioactive substance.
