To: Editor of Feature Division Press Release For Immediate Release Cyberport Weekend Market Celebrates Traditional Chinese Lantern Festival Making Lanterns with Recycled Lai-see Packets Enjoying Tangyuan and Riddle Game on Cyberport’s Green Lawns (Hong Kong: 7 February 2013) Cyberport Weekend Market will be celebrating the Lunar New Year festivities with everyone on 23 and 24 February. As the Market coincides with the traditional Chinese Lantern Festival, which also falls on 24 February, special elements will be teemed to spice up this joyful and romantic season. The Chinese Lantern Festival, also known as the “Chinese Valentine’s Day”, falls on the fifteenth day of the first lunar month. This is the first full-moon day of New Year where lanterns of various shapes and sizes are hung, while folks gather around to play lantern riddle games and enjoy glutinous rice dumplings that signify family reunion and love. At the Cyberport Weekend Market, all these interesting traditional customs are there for you to experience. To let visitors of different cultures enjoy great festive ambience, we have prepared both Chinese and English lantern riddles to test your minds. Winners of the riddle games will be awarded a warm bowl of glutinous rice dumplings for FREE. Other programmes of live music performances, open-air movie screenings on the lush green lawn and the marvellous views of the Cyberport will add more leisure delights to visitors. The Creative Upcycling Workshop in February will teach participants how to recycle used lai- see packets into gorgeous lanterns with style. Show up in colourful Chinese outfit or accessories at the Market and you will be treated to a special gift. The popular Parent-child Farming Workshop will also continue, where families can try growing their own crops with our tutors’ guidance and harvest them in three months. After last December, 30 families have taken home their ripe herbs and fruits from the vegetable patch and the crops boxes can now be reused. By joining this session, the young ones in your family will be introduced the value of ‘going green’ with organic farming, while learning all the basic skills of growing food and nurturing crops. “This is the second year of the Cyberport Weekend Market, and for the past few months we have been presenting ideas of urban farming and organic living to share with our visitors a new
attitude in health and green lifestyle,” says Winnie Wong, Head of Marketing of Cyberport. “With over 50 families already participated in our urban farming workshops from last September onwards, we are happy to know that they enjoyed so much the process from planting to harvesting. In fact we see a demand in this type of green edutainment and parent-child activities from the encouraging responses of the workshop. In February, we ride on the Chinese Lantern Festival to make a fusion of traditional programmes for a different taste of the Market.” Amongst the numerous bazaar booths at the Market, visitors can find a good array of handmade goodies and healthy foods, including fresh organic vegetables and fruits from Project GROW. Project founder Chang Wen said, “We are grateful to partner with Cyberport in the Weekend Market. Organic farming is very well-received by children and families alike because of fun and fast growing cycle. They also love to take home small pots such as cherry tomatoes to grow at home. With a greater emphasis on health-consciousness in Hong Kong, organic products are very popular, such as jam made of organically grown turnips and roselle.” From handicrafts to accessories, homemade skin care to bathing products, farm produce, wines and toys, there is always something for everyone.
