Background British politics has changed beyond all recognition since 2015. Following the Conservative victory in the 2015 general election, Jeremy Corbyn was elected as Labour leader. The election of an anti-austerity leadership of the Labour Party committed to an alternative to the economic orthodoxy of cuts in public spending is an historic shift in British politics. The activities of affiliated unions are not pertinent to PCS or this consultation. However, non-affiliated unions may offer us some possible courses of action. Non-affiliated unions adopt different campaigning strategies. Some simply attempt to draw attention to specific issues of concern to their members. At the other end of the scale, some non- affiliated unions work actively to support the election of a Labour government.
