Raja Changez Sultan X Trinity Class of 1972 Commencement Address Doctor of Fine Arts Raja Changez Sultan ’72 Y our father, a kind-hearted man not defined by material wealth but a passion for a free and fair South Asia, introduced you to the arts with the gift of poetry by Sir Allama Mohammad Iqbal, a Pakistani writer, philosopher, and politician. Iqbal’s poetry in the Urdu language is considered XI Charge to the Graduating Class Joanne Berger-Sweeney among the greatest of the 20th century and helped inspire you to lead a life of meaning. As one of Pakistan’s most prolific creatives—a painter and poet of equal stature—you can trace your interest in painting to 1967, when, after completing education in Pakistan and England, you arrived XII on the Trinity College campus.
