MEDIA RELEASE CARE & SHARE SG50 MOVEMENT CREATES RIPPLES OF FESTIVE JOY IN YEAR-END LIGHT-UP New Care & Share song unveiled as Joi Chua performs it ‘live’ with students from Singapore School for the Deaf Singapore, 6 November 2014 – The Care & Share SG50 Movement is reaching a climax in its final two months, where the government dollar-for-dollar matching of donations made to Community Chest and participating charities under the movement will end on 31 December 2014. This year also sees the most number of partners coming on board with Community Chest to use their year-end festivity and light-up activities to support a good cause and make contributions for the less fortunate in our community. A series of partnerships that Community Chest has forged this festive season, to rally more care and concern for the disadvantaged to usher in a meaningful SG50 celebration next year, will kick-start with the light-up of the ChariTrees @ Marina Bay 2014 this Saturday, 8 November, at the Marina Bay Waterfront Promenade. ChariTrees – Gifts from the community to those in need ChariTrees @ Marina Bay 2014 is jointly organised by Community Chest and the Urban Redevelopment Authority with Marina Bay Sands as the main sponsor. 25 ChariTrees, all adopted by companies and individuals who made donations to charities supported by Community Chest, will transform and light up the Marina Bay waterfront for seven weeks from 8 November to 27 December, adding to the festive mood of the yuletide season. Minister of State for National Development, Mr Desmond Lee, will be the guest-of-honour for the light-up this Saturday. Two corporate partners that donated and adopted the ChariTrees, ArrowCrest Technologies Pte Ltd and Symrise Asia Pacific Pte Ltd, are going beyond giving 170 Ghim Moh Road #01-02 Singapore 279621, T 6210 2500, F 6468 4909 comchest.sg
donations. About 40 of their staff volunteers are going the extra mile to decorate the ChariTrees with 25 children with special needs supported by Community Chest. This enables more direct engagement and interaction with the beneficiaries whom the donations will be going to help. Orchard Road Christmas on A Great Street 2014 Light-up – First ‘live’ performance of new Care & Share song Christmas on A Great Street 2014 Light-up is another highly anticipated event during the year-end holiday season. President Dr Tony Tan Keng Yam will be the guest-of-honour for the light-up on 15 November. Into its 27th year of organising the Orchard Road light-up, Community Chest is fortunate to have the support of key partners like the Singapore Tourism Board, Orchard Road Business Association, Lee Foundation, StarHub and The Hitachi Group of Companies. A highlight this year is the first ‘live’ performance of the Care & Share song, commissioned by Community Chest to help spread the spirit of caring and sharing. Sung by Joi Chua, the English and Chinese versions are titled “Be The One” and 一传一” respectively. Joi Chua will be performing together with a group of students “ with hearing impairment from Community Chest-supported Singapore School for the Deaf. The lyrics of both versions are written by local lyricist Xiaohan and the music composed by Joi Chua and local musician Jim Lim. This song, together with a new video titled “Ripple” launched recently by Community Chest, aim to spread the message that simple acts of caring can create a rippling effect to impact and transform the community. The video “Ripple” has received over 4 million views to-date. “Community Chest is happy that the ComChest Care & Share SG50 year-end light- up, in support of the Care & Share Movement, has received strong support. We hope that both corporations and individuals will continue to be generous in giving to the disadvantaged while enjoying the year-end festivities. Through the Care & Share song and the video “Ripple”, we hope to encourage more to start simple acts of caring to make our community a more inclusive one,” said Mr Phillip Tan, Chairman of Community Chest and the Care & Share Movement Steering Committee. 170 Ghim Moh Road #01-02 Singapore 279621, T 6210 2500, F 6468 4909 comchest.sg
