P.A.A Tansi! Hello! This past month we have been studying First Nations world views and Western World views. Students in Native Studies 10 have taken interest and are really enjoying this class. I have had a lot of feedback regarding identity and cultural beliefs. With quad 1 coming to an end and quad 2 beginning to take off, I am proud to state that our students are really enjoying their time in art 10. We have looked at different types of mediums and different types of art pieces from indigenous artists across Canada and the US. I am looking forward to the rest of the quad and semester to see what our students are capable of accomplishing. In our special projects program our students recently went to Saskatoon to do a site visit. During their site visit they were able to complete a few projects in electrical and carpentry, which they really enjoyed. The look on their faces was full of enthusiasm and interest, the tour that the college Sask Polytech offered was amazing. I can’t wait to get our projects started as our students are eager to learn more about construction and carpentry. Ekosi! Ninaskamon! Glen Durocher

Following Their Voices What is FTV? • FTV is an initiative designed to raise the educational achievement and participation of Saskatchewan's First Nations, Métis, and Inuit students. It focuses on enhancing relationships between students and teachers, creating structures and supports for teachers and school administrators to co-construct teaching and learning interactions with students, and creating safe, well-managed learning environments. FTV is based on research that was conducted Communications Toolkit Module 9 with First Nations and Métis engaged and non-engaged students, parents/caregivers, teachers, and school administrators about what is needed in order to be successful as a First Nations or Métis student in school. Students grades 4-12 are surveyed 3 times per year - questions are very specific, and as teachers, we analyze the survey results and reflect and plan accordingly. Please review the comparison survey results from our initial year in FTV 2017 and compare them to the fall of 2021. We ask parents to complete the parent survey via our School Facebook page twice a year. Ensuring students' voice is validated in the daily instruction in their classes - Teachers have been studying high-impact teaching strategies and this year we are learning the effective use of connecting students' prior knowledge to the curriculum outcomes. Teachers collaborate weekly and share best practices. Geraldine Delorme—Bouvier

Math Catalyst Finding the Best Math Station for your Class What math centers you choose to use in your classroom is based on teacher preference and student needs. It doesn’t need to be fancy or elaborate. I would recommend starting very simple and adding more as you feel comfortable. For instance, the most common math center is the one above where teachers have some students work on fact fluency, while others work independently at their seats, and still some work on hands-on manipulative to make the concept more concrete. The last group would work with the teacher or whatever the teacher decides. In the stack model, there are five groups. The teacher meets with the students, offers technology math practice, application practice, critical thinking skills, and hands-on practice.
Math Catalyst Continued The guide model is very similar to the others. It contains games, application (using what we know), independent work, fluency practice, and journaling. However, it doesn’t have the opportunity for students to meet with the teacher. Instead, the teacher can move around and individually confer with students. Again, the model you choose is completely up to you and your students’ needs. Some teachers prefer to have fewer students in each center, while other teachers want fewer centers. Thank you, Leighton Wensley
